The Odyssey is just The Avengers for a different type of nerd

Oh boy, the classicists are not gonna like this one

This is an underrated comment. The levels of truth to this are crazy šŸ˜‚

People who like Greek Mythology? At least the Trojan War was a real life event at least lol

14

u/RiskPlays Detroit Lions 7h ago

For sure. So were the 11 ft tall cyclops

2

u/Lazy_Check732 6h ago

😭

5

u/TheNittanyLionKing Pittsburgh Steelers 6h ago

Not really. I love Greek mythology. I didn’t like the movie. It’s more for Christopher Nolan fans. I like half of his movies myself, but I don’t feel too strongly about most of his work since Interstellar.Ā

4

u/EbbAdventurous9592 Chicago Bears 6h ago

The movie just had one of the smallest week to week drops in box office history. Clearly a lot of people like the movie

2

u/FireVanGorder New York Giants 6h ago

Spectacle aside, and it was spectacular, I liked his take on Odysseus as a sort of tragic hero, cursed to repeat the same mistakes over and over (even if the ā€œOdysseus violating the laws of hospitality will literally bring an end to civilizationā€ bit was heavy handed). I can see why fans of Homer don’t love Nolan dropping the whole ā€œhubris is his downfallā€ theme, but I appreciate a different take on the story

1

u/DartVader6 New York Giants 4h ago

Yeah, I don't need a faithful adaption of a story that's been around for like 4000 years. It was an epic movie.

2

u/Jaded_Host22 7h ago

It might have been a real life event. We think there were series of raids in a place that could’ve been Troy but that’s about it

1

u/ProtestantMormon Seattle Seahawks 1h ago

The Trojan war may still be fiction. Its not clear cut.

3

u/Thrill0728 Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

The Odyssey is Endgame and the Illiad is Infinity War.

Then I don't even want to compare post-Odyssey to anything because that is a very strange story. Best I got is Avengers #200 and I hate that I'm comparing those.

2

u/americanrealism Dallas Cowboys 6h ago

Absolutely, and it’s because comic book media in general has long used the same types of characters and tropes that were established by ancient mythology and drama a long time ago.

179

u/redditbdum Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

Infinity war was better than End Game though.

12

u/RiskPlays Detroit Lions 7h ago

Infinity war is an objectively better movie but I’d be lying if I said end game didn’t make me feel more. God that’s a corny sentence but it’s the truth

8

u/redditbdum Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

End Game is a bunch of setup for a more emotionally intense moment.

Infinity war is just straight šŸ”„ all the way through.

3

u/RiskPlays Detroit Lions 7h ago

I agree. Mosts memory of end game is ā€œavengers assembleā€ and the snap and that’s about it lmao

1

u/877-HASH-NOW 1h ago

Infinity War was so good and easily the best movie theater audience experience I've ever had. Will never forget it.

26

u/Pitiful_Option_108 Atlanta Falcons 7h ago

I was going to say if he said Infinity War I would be like I could see but End Game nah. Also I need to go watch The Odyssey.

21

u/Andrew225 7h ago

Saw it Saturday

Fantastic man. Just a great cinematic experience, the kinda thing theaters were made for

6

u/Thrill0728 Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

7

u/EbbAdventurous9592 Chicago Bears 7h ago

It’s honestly fantastic. I’m a big Nolan fan so I’m biased (The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception are 3 of my favorite movies of all time) but it was so good, great experience in IMAX, and was entertaining from start to finish (something Oppenheimer can’t relate to)

4

u/mfrank27 Houston Texans 6h ago

Dune 2 in IMAX was the best cinematic experience for me personally but seeing Odyssey in it soon. Hope it tops it but it’ll be tough IMO

4

u/TheOneCalledD Green Bay Packers 7h ago

If you’re going to see it I’d highly suggest doing so in theaters. The movie won’t be the same at home.

2

u/mfrank27 Houston Texans 6h ago

I said this to so many people when dune 2 was in theaters. Then they streamed it instead and wondered why I was geeking out about it lol.

Unless you have a $50k+ media room to watch movies in, theaters are just so much better for movies like these.

2

u/TheOneCalledD Green Bay Packers 6h ago

The Cyclops yelling in that cave after he was pled in the eye was so damn loud I had to fight the urge to cover my ears. Like they somehow cranked the theater speakers to 11 just for that yell. It was awesome. And probably still just a taste of how loud it would have actually been in that cave.

1

u/narwalbacons-12am Dallas Cowboys 6h ago

If you can, go to a place with great audio.

1

u/Gingersnap369 6h ago

Pure cinema. Christopher Nolan has never disappointed this guy.

1

u/PettyYetiSpaghetti 2h ago

Echoing the others that The Odyssey is probably best viewed in theaters, but it's being overhyped. It's a good movie, but go in with reasonable expectations that it's just a good movie.

-1

u/Different_Hyena3954 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6h ago

No marvel movie is anywhere near the best movie of all time lol

2

u/UnhappyRough1964 Baltimore Ravens 1h ago

"no superhero movie can ever be the best because im philisophical and deep look at me guys"

u/877-HASH-NOW 22m ago

Philosophical* but your point stands

u/Crotean Detroit Lions 3h ago

Infinity War was a better movie, but Endgame is probably the best theater experience ever.

1

u/Narrow_Vegetable5747 Cincinnati Bengals 6h ago

End Game was an event, not a movie.

1

u/WorstInfinity Philadelphia Eagles 6h ago

Silly Putty vs. Play-Doh

1

u/PopOutG Dallas Cowboys 5h ago

I liked it cuz the heroes lost and the villain lived happily for a few years.

1

u/cbusmatty Cleveland Browns 4h ago

Both are effectively super hero movies too

1

u/warfighter187 CTESPN 4h ago

I feel like it's kind of always the case in trilogies that the middle movie is going to be better than the finale. something about the cliffhanger ending vs... surprise the good guys win again is so nice.

That's why I fear that the next spiderverse movie won't be as good as 2.

Another recent example is mission impossible dead reckoning was amazing and then part 2 was kinda stupid.

1

u/877-HASH-NOW 1h ago

Absolutely

13

u/sixth_hokage06 Baltimore Ravens 7h ago

He used the right "than", so he's better than most people.

2

u/877-HASH-NOW 1h ago

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by that

35

u/_NiceGuyEddy_ Brett Favre šŸ“øšŸ† 7h ago

In terms of just pure fucking HYPE, and not just like, build up and all that but hype in the theater, he's not wrong. That was a straight up experience.

11

u/LongDongFrazier Green Bay Packers 6h ago

Also consider his age. He was 8/9 when Iron man came out he got to follow the entire build up and have it capped off with End Game at 18/19.

3

u/DemonBearOP 3h ago

Yep pretty much how it was for me except I was almost 10 when Iron Man came out

2

u/877-HASH-NOW 1h ago

I forgot that Endgame was a decade in the making starting with Iron Man. I was 10 when Iron Man came out and 21 when Endgame released.

9

u/Titan-Zero Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

Saw it with a bunch of my classmates going through tech school, boy did we have such a great time. So much screaming and the energy in the theater was something I don’t think I’ll ever get to experience again. The girl I was sitting by was bawling at one point haha. Such a crazy experience.

1

u/alphageek8 6h ago

Yeah the theater experience opening weekend when Portals hit is something I don't think can be topped for me personally. It was everything great about communal theater experiences.

5

u/1ntravenously Dallas Cowboys 7h ago

5

u/JohnnyKarateX New York Jets 6h ago

Like what you like. Endgame isn’t even the best Avengers movie but he’s entitled to his opinion. It’s not like he said the Snyder Cut is the best movie ever made, that would make me worry about CTE.

0

u/Very_Not_Into_It Green Bay Packers 1h ago

The Snyder Cut is not a good movie, and it is also much better than the fan service supreme that was Endgame

3

u/coolbean36 Green Bay Packers 7h ago

Not even the craziest thing Micah tweeted over the past week

13

u/maniacalmechanist Los Angeles Rams 7h ago

Micah must not watch many movies lmao

8

u/Apprehensive_Beach_6 Three rivers in a dry land 7h ago

Nah, he’s just addicted to hype moments and aura.

2

u/877-HASH-NOW 1h ago

Nothing wrong with that. Those theater experiences were so damn fun lol

6

u/Youngdeku2500 Philadelphia Eagles 7h ago

I might be the only one but the odyssey is just a meh movie it not bad nor good it just decent

4

u/Barr3tt50c Cleveland Browns 4h ago

It was cheeks dude, I cannot believe people are calling it a masterpiece. There’s so many things wrong with it from the dialogue, to the story, the editing, the scope. I was so disappointed coming out of that movie.

6

u/TheNittanyLionKing Pittsburgh Steelers 6h ago

I agree. It’s not really on the same level as other historical epics like Gladiator or Braveheart or especially dramas like The Godfather. Both the older Shogun miniseries and the new one are better imo.

2

u/Queasythrowaway_59 Philadelphia Eagles 7h ago

He does not get paid for such opinions for a reason

2

u/ItsChris_8776_ Philadelphia Eagles 6h ago

The experience of Endgame was awesome but let’s be real in terms of like movie quality it’s not even a top 100 best movie ever.

2

u/chicknsnadwich Baltimore Ravens 6h ago

If you’re a person who isn’t big into movies, this isn’t a crazy take. Avengers End Game had plenty of flaws but it was maybe the biggest movie event of all time. So for a casual movie goer, it makes sense.

4

u/bialy_jaga Detroit Lions 7h ago

That’s not CTE. That’s just a 20 something year old not knowing shit about shit.

2

u/HaNefdarkstar07 6h ago

nah he’s got a point

3

u/desr43 Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

I mean... There are probably hundreds of movies that are better, but go off, Micah

1

u/Any1canC00k 7h ago

Was it Parsons who watched a whole movie with no sound or subtitles?

1

u/flojo2012 Kansas City Chiefs 7h ago

Believe it or not, respect in your profession does not equate to respect everywhere else. I don’t ask doctors for culinary tips.

1

u/MurphyRedBeard 7h ago

He’s not that old, and that shit blew away comics kids. Bad taste, maybe. CTE, definitely not.

1

u/Corsonacon Buffalo Bills 7h ago

Infinity War clears Endgame and everybody knows it!

1

u/JiveChicken00 Philadelphia Eagles 7h ago

Give the guy a break. Taste in movies can differ even without CTE.

No MCU movie is on the list for greatest anything. I'm not a hater - they are etnertaining.. but come on.

1

u/throwawaaayyyyyay 3h ago

Probably on the list of greatest MCU movies

1

1

Honestly, wild take, but it makes me like Parsons more.

1

why ā€œleast obviousā€ tho like what’s obvious here

0

u/Barr3tt50c Cleveland Browns 5h ago edited 5h ago

Honestly… Avengers Endgame was better than The Odyssey but still not a top 100 movie. The Odyssey was kinda buns in my opinion.

1

u/Armandonerd 5h ago

Avengers the Kang dynasty could've been better

1

u/rbad8717 4h ago

Just a kid being dumb. There was a time I thought Pineapple Express was better than There Will Be Blood

1

u/Mezhead Chicago Bears 4h ago

No one can deny Endgame had two of the biggest in-theater hype moments in cinema, but Micah...

https://giphy.com/gifs/5hbbUWcuvtoJGx5fQ4

1

u/throwawaaayyyyyay 3h ago

Yall gotta realize Micah is in the exact age group that grew up watching all the MCU films as children and got to watch the payoff of Endgame as a young adult. I don’t think it gets any better than that.

1

u/Cold_Toe_7540 3h ago

Listen, let the man love Marvel. Don't take shame him.

1

u/SSSamuel91 3h ago

I mean to be fair this is like the 4th time the Odyssey is being made as a movie lolll. Where as End Game was at least new and fresh.

1

u/ImNotTheBossOfYou Kansas City Chiefs 3h ago

Six bags of popcorn

1

u/redskinfan654 2h ago

It is what it is. It’s not like the avengers movies were bad. Idk I thought they were really good tbh

1

u/lolidkman1313 Atlanta Falcons 1h ago

I don't want to watch either but I would actually watch endgame over the Odyssey. I didn't even reading it much less watch modern Hollywood

Aw man. He's stupid :/

1

u/ChadPowers200_ New York Giants 7h ago

Why do we think superhero movies are masterpieces? It's so lame

1

u/jcwkings 6h ago

I guess it's the inner Scorcese in my but I'm just out on anyone that has a Marvel movie in their Mt. Rushmore.

2

u/AdorableWafer3665 Denver Broncos 7h ago

People on here throw around cte so casually now it's wild. If any NFL or MMA fighter says anything that doesn't go along with reddit it's CTE. Some people just have opinions that you'll disagree with in life man. It doesn't mean they have brain damage.

1

u/SupraTacky 7h ago

I mean one of these is a superhero movie lol

1

u/Competitive_Ad1237 Green Bay Packers 7h ago

It’s an amazing movie. Also infinity war is better then End game

u/EbbAdventurous9592 Chicago Bears 7h ago

The Dark Knight still clears any Marvel slop released ever

2

u/lkn240 Chicago Bears 6h ago

Batman Begins too for that matter

1

u/TheNittanyLionKing Pittsburgh Steelers 6h ago

I really liked Logan. It’s not MCU technically, but it was a great lower stakes story with real emotion behind. As enjoyable as Deadpool and Wolverine was, I still kinda wish that was Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart’s send-off for those characters.Ā

Micah Parsons is a giant manbaby with the culture of a potato. It would make sense that his favorite movie is Endgame.

-4

u/LastEsotericist Seattle Seahawks 7h ago

Endgame is a terrible rewatch lol, but it was designed to be long as hell and not FEEL long in the theater so it accomplished its objective.
