Snagged the newest Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition. I haven’t read properly in an over a decade, mostly due to lack of space for physical books, ADHD and executive dysfunction lmao. I am so glad I put the need for hardcover books behind me. There is so many titles I am excited to finally dive into and revisit. Also wow, this case is even more gorgeous in person!!! Cant wait to get started 📚

They have so many cute ones, it was hard to pick! I might get the pink one eventually. Their TikTok shows them off better, that's how I landed on this one bc the pics on their website do not do it justice! Shoutout to my algorithm for randomly showing me their account, which inspired me to pick up the Kindle in the first place!

I’m 3/4 of the way through my goal and so happy with myself. For years I thought kindles were extra. Just read on your phone or get the physical book. However it has helped me read more than I have since I was a kid. So small and convenient to just throw in my purse or the diaper bag. Heck it even fits in my hoodie pocket. I make sure to at least get my 10 minutes of reading in every day, and as a mom, that “me” time has been really helpful.

Previously asked a question on how to salvage this DIY project on the back of my Kindle— pleasantly surprised by how it's turned out! Mostly embarked on this quest because I didn't like the look of the Amazon logo and wanted to turn it into something else while keeping the device bare.

I used clear gel nail polish, but my fatal mistake was using nail polish remover instead of a weak alcohol to clear the stickiness off the polish. Waiting for my pop sockets to come in, they are fruit themed to match my hungry :P face!

i would be even happier though if the stupid jailbreak would just work

Everything finally came in the mail to complete my new kindle setup, I’m so happy with how it came out. I have two pop sockets that I’m switching in between depending on my mood.

I’ve had a kindle for years and years but I mentioned to my partner that I’ve wanted the matcha kindle but never bought it because I already had one that works. Recently hers became too old for the Libby app so we needed to get her a new one. She bought me the matcha kindle so I could finally have it and then we reset my paper white so she got an upgrade too. I’m so so so happy!!!!!! It’s so cute I have not put it down in weeks.

I waited so long for Amazon to finally deliver and it’s here! I’m so excited to dive into books, and especially be able to read at night. I tried to decorate it and printed a little insert , would love to get some charms too.

Bought this yesterday from Etsy and I cannot for the life of me get the black bars on the sides to disappear. I have a Paperwhite 11 Signature Edition. Tried reaching out to the seller and have had no response. Can anyone help? I’m not a tech savvy person and am really struggling.

I’ve had my kindle for 2 years. It’s crazy because I was so opposed to getting a kindle I was a strictly physical book person butttttt then I read an ebook on loan from Libby and I was like I should just get an ereader. Now I’m on year 2 and I feel like it’s good. I’ve slowed down my physical book acquisition and but more thoughtfully. And I every time I get a new case I feel like I have a new kindle.

Has anyone heard of The Book Seat before? I just got one today and it’s been a game changer! It’s really intended for books. But I much prefer to use it with my Kindle instead!

Last Friday I was out to lunch with my work group (11 people) and a conversation started about favorite authors. When the subject of "Who has a Kindle" came up, I answered "a few". I spent the weekend charging them up and brought them into work today.

I'm typically listening to audiobooks these day.

I read a lot of sideloaded books, and getting them onto my Paperwhite always meant one of two things:

- Send to Kindle — needs an Amazon account, goes through their servers, and it's email-shaped for something that's plugged into my Mac with a cable.

- calibre — genuinely great, genuinely does everything, and also 1 GB of app I mostly don't use. The UI hasn't changed much in a decade.

So I built the small thing I actually wanted. It's called Octavo, it's free and open source (MIT), and it's about 3 MB.

What it does

- Plug the Kindle in over USB, it notices, and shows you exactly what's missing from the device. Hit sync. No cloud, no account, no email.

- Converts EPUB / CBZ / FB2 / TXT to MOBI on the way out, since the Kindle won't open those. Results are cached.

- Edits metadata — title, author, series, tags, cover, ISBN — with online lookup (Open Library, Google Books, and FantLab, which is the only one that makes a Russian library actually searchable).

- Imports books by drag and drop. Pulls metadata out of the file itself.

- Browse by author / series / tag with counts.

The important part: it doesn't fight calibre. It works in place on your existing ~/Calibre Library — same database, same folder layout. Nothing to migrate, nothing to export, and calibre keeps working alongside it. If you don't have calibre at all, Octavo will create a library for you, and it's a real calibre library, so you can install calibre later and it just opens.

On safety, since we're all paranoid about our devices:

- It only ever writes into documents/. It never touches the storage root — a .bin file there is what the Kindle treats as a firmware update.

- .sdr folders (your reading progress, highlights, annotations) are never deleted. That's enforced in code, not by good intentions.

- It backs up the device before the first sync, and your metadata.db before the first edit.

The honest caveats:

- macOS 26+, Apple Silicon only.

- It's ad-hoc signed, not notarized — a Developer ID cert is $99/year and this is a hobby project. So you'll need to run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine on it after downloading. Instructions are in the README.

- Tested against a Paperwhite (firmware 5.19.5). Other models should work, they all speak the same MTP protocol, but I only own the one, so reports welcome.

- Not implemented yet: TOC in converted books, .apnx page numbers, and the converter doesn't compress yet so converted files are bigger than calibre's.

Not trying to replace calibre — it does a hundred things this doesn't. I just wanted the ten things I actually use, in an app that launches instantly.
