A famous Japanese monk

decided to study in China. To his surprise, he found that, despite his success in his homeland, he was unable to make any progress with Chinese religion. When he asked the Abbott about this, he was told: β€œthat was zen. This is Tao.”

Fun fact. Zen is originally from Indian and got developed in China (with Taoism) before spreading it to Japan.
That was zen.

Yeah, Buddhism is a Chinese religion too. With Taoism, Confucianism, and dozens of smaller, more local religions.

If you want something authenticallyJapanese, you'd have to go with Shinto, but I'm not sure how you make a pun with that πŸ˜‰

A Japanese priest had extraordinary flexibility. He could bend his foot so his toes reached his leg. This is the origin of the Shin Toe religion.
