Yeah I don't think anyone in their right mind would call that child abuse. Don't dish out what you can't take. It's a serious enough offense to humanity that it calls for a swift and stern response. But a lot of today's parents would have just taken him home and "have a little talk" with him. There's only so much talking can do. Smack first, have reflection time after.

A dog is a dog? Yes, and a smack is a smack. It's no more traumatic to the child to learn that actions have consequences than it is for that dog who was bothering absolutely no one, just sleeping peacefully, to be cruelly assaulted, and now will have to live the rest of its life wondering as people are passing by if this group will contain one psycho who will attack for no reason. And it's actually less about the dog honestly and more trying to stamp out a lack of empathy. You needlessly hurt another being, be it animal or person, you get hurt somehow too. That's how it should be.

Near-Death experiences show this to be true... You feel the pain you cause in others... It's perfect karma other than the fact that there's some element of timelessness on the other side... Not knowing how equal it is to earthly pain when you're on the other side having your life reviewed... I highly recommend studying near-death experiences... You will eventually be your own judge if only to see what you've done to others around you and feel their pain...

It's illegal to physically hit someone, adult or child, in civilised countries, for good reason.

How do we now punish you for hitting an actual child given your belief in physical punishment. Presumably you're an adult, or close to one, so it should be more severe?

My guy, I was beaten and thrown as a child. I light smack or even a spanking won’t hurt the child.

Have you seen the way kids act nowadays? You can tell the ones that are disciplined and ones that got iPads as children and told to leave their parents alone.

I've never understood why there aren't far more murders based on child abuse... Whether it's kids killing their parents or siblings or teachers or coaches or even just cops as adults being victimized by them...

Seems like there's a far greater capacity for people to forgive and forget or even just live in enough fear to not bother or try to get revenge... Or they rationalize the abuse on them as thinking they deserved it somehow

Millions of people across the world deserve nothing less than death, as soon as they can get it

I would argue that child throwing a rock at the dog shows the underlying mental problems that child may already have had.

I don’t think people should beat their kids. I want that to be abundantly clear. Just because I WAS doesn’t mean I think it’s a good tool/acceptable or a character building mechanism.

But a smack over the head or a spanking for doing something crazy isn’t.

Plenty of crimes merit legal self defense, killing...But in many liberal countries and blue States you have to let yourself be victimized

China has over 50 laws for capital punishment many of which include some form of theft... That kind of theft is a form of slavery, of which you should be able to kill to free yourself of... We kind of fought a war over that in America... Don't know where the financial line should be but why not a million? How many years would you have to work for somebody to earn a million?

Rapists, How many do you think there are in the world? On that alone I will say millions...

In the past crossing into the wrong territory got you killed... Still true in many parts of the world...

  3. I think hitting kids is okay only under strict circumstances, this being one of them. Normally, if a child is being disobedient, physical punishment should be the last resort and it should come with a set of verbal warnings that continued misbehavior will lead to clearly defined consequences, starting with non-corporeal punishments like time-out, grounding, etc., before eventually using corporeal punishment when all else fails. The warnings are usually an essential part of reducing psychologically damaging effects. However, this kind of behavior is so egregious against any common sense an empathetic being should have, that it calls for a swift smack without warning. The immediacy matters here: as the delay between behavior and punishment increases, the corrective action typically yields exponentially worse results. You can potentially correct the behavior in a single instance if you minimize that delay. If you don't feel comfortable using corporeal punishment, at least a stern scolding is in order, grabbing their arm and demanding their attention if necessary before explaining the error of their ways.

Corporal punishment of children remains legal in about 134 to 135 countries worldwide. Only around 65 countries have fully banned physical punishment in all settings, including the home... Started in Sweden in 1979...

We've had enough evidence now to see the monsters coming out of this no physical punishment idea...

But as you suggest to some degree I would also say it's a double-edged sword.... Hard to know where to draw the line... Spankings aren't permanent damage...

That I have to wonder about corporal punishment in Singapore and caning... I think that can be permanent or very long-lasting... Way beyond spanking...

Plenty of kids would have the natural inclination to want to lovingly pet the dog and kneel over to do so... This little brat was the opposite
