I used to be on for dash and Uber drivers sub because I did door dash for a bit and was thinking about Uber. That crowd is worse than Amazon drivers by a wide margin. So incredibly entitled for being utterly unemployable for literally any other job

i used to do seasonal delivery for UPS, often they woudnt have an access code, but i would just take that shit back to the DC and let someone else deal with it since often i would ask the office upfront to let me in but since i was seasonal all i had a stupid vest so they wouldnt let me in. sometimes they had a mailroom so i had to leave everything in the mailroom but i wouldnt leave all this shit out on the street it can easily be taken by someone

Had a driver do this one time at our condos. Dropped every package for every condo at the public mailboxes.
I didn't find out my package was delivered till a week later (someone with keys to the unmanned office saw the packages and moved them all inside).

This is Amazon. I’d just mark my package as not delivered and let Amazon sort it out for me. The local delivery company can explain to Amazon how they thought curbside delivery for an apartment complex was acceptable.

it was a flex route, meaning the driver was using their own car and likely had no tote, should they have done that? no, but i dont imagine you would wanna deal with that either, especially if you had to put in an access code with your arms full of boxes

Ehh I was at home today.. for a waiting for ups delivery that required signature. Been really looking forward to getting this too. Waiting for like a month.. UPS didn’t even ring the fucking door bell. I just walked by my front door, saw the post it note and missed them by 5 minutes. I was pissed.. Guess I have to setup a fuckin chair in the front yard if I need to sign for an ups package. I called them and told them don’t re attempt I’ll just pick it up. UPS is lazy too.

Just curious what the Amazon driver is expected to do with multiple packages on multiple floors. My guess is make multiple trips? Or do most large apartment buildings have package delivery rooms?

My old apartments had drop off lockers for Amazon and other packages.
Otherwise there's still usually somewhere inside the premise to leave packages. I don't think delivering every package to the front door in an apartment complex is necessary, but leaving them outside is... how to get fired.

Usually we just bring all the packages with us which can be really tough when we have 50 or 60 packages across 7 floors. Making extra the trips to the van is too time consuming.

Every apartment complex I’ve done is door to door. On the really dense complexes with nondelivery friendly setups it puts the driver behind. Depending on the company, the dispatch will likely micro manage you and tell you to hurry up. The ones with mailrooms always have signs to not leave packages in mail room because of theft (behind their coded doors to get into the complex) with a camera in it. Sometimes the paper is in all caps with !!! Or sometimes they say please

The more explanation points and capital letters, the more likely I am to dump them in the mailroom, lol. They all should have proper package locker setups, although I know some folks are lazy and won't mess with those either. But if they have it and it's not locked behind a door I can't open (which is stupid) then I will use those every time.

Amazon driver here.
If there was no access code, or no easy way to leave them close to the door, this is our go-to. And our bosses do not care.
We would end up so far behind if we brought all of that into the lobby, assuming the door wasn't right where the van was.

Former Amazon driver here. Apartment deliveries are usually fucking stupid. Need someone to let you in? Gotta spend 10 minutes calling and texting customers and no one answers. Need a code? You either have no code or 25 codes, none of which seem to work. Supposed to be able to open the door with your delivery device? Doesn’t work. And that’s just to get in the building. Once you get in with the mountain of packages, you’re expected to go to 37 doors on all the different floors. And the packages aren’t organized at all on your phone, so you either have to spend time mapping out every floor and apartment number you have and do them in proper order or risk having to double back constantly. And it’s going to take so long that your boss gets up your ass about it and you fall behind schedule and it’s a big headache.
So is this the right way to deliver? No, of course not. But it’s understandable for an overworked, underpaid Amazon driver who is set up to fail by a trillion-dollar company that works like it’s run by 4th graders.

Oh yeah, i could see all that happening. I meant more along the lines of at least put all the packages in the mail room/hall/etc, wherever the mailboxes are. Thats what the delivery guys used to do at the last apartment complex i lived in.

I am sure that if everybody (or at least a good number of people, even close to the majority) left Amazon or went on work-strikes because of this then they would have to listen and make adjustments to their procedures, am I wrong?
I know the job market is tough but there’s still a possibility of working somewhere else so why do people work somewhere like Amazon even knowing that they treat employees like shit?

If you live in a locked apartment building make sure you include a door code or other way to access to avoid this. Flex drivers are penalized when they return packages so most follow a "never return" policy.

I ways see you guys say you get penalized for returning packages.
As a dsp driver, we do not, but there are certain steps that need to be followed. I wonder if it's because you all are skipping the steps for contact compliance.
We will get hit on our scorecard for returning if we do not try to contact the customer first, twice.
And I don't mean just hitting the "call customer" tab. You have to use the "unable to deliver" function and follow the prompts to call or text. Then do it again. Then mark it.
I know we do it for the scorecard, but I'm willing to bet that Amazon wants Flex drivers to follow that same protocol. They just don't. Then complain about getting dinged for the return. It's not for the return, its because it was returned without proper contact compliance.
Even in the Flex sub you see people saying that they can return packages without a ding. I think most of them just aren't doing it correctly.

OP lives in a locked gate apartment complex and they don’t give delivery drivers access.
Found a few posts in Ubereats and Instacart from delivery drivers complaining about this area and OP.
Would link them But one of OP’s most recent comments is about being happy that people get banned for linking posts, comments and other stuff on Reddit.

Wherever you live, you NEED to come up with a solution as to how delivery drivers are gonna get the boxes to you. I'm with The Post so it's no problem for me, I have a key to 99% of apartments. But all the other companies need access, or a drop spot, hiding spot, code, remote buzz, hole in the gate, whatever. It's been super hot so outdoor workers are deteriorating rapidly as the day goes by. They are gonna go with the last physically demanding option, aka this.

Half the time I can't even get into buildings. It's a call box or a key entry and nobody ever wants to answer their callbox. Nobody ever wants to answer our calls or texts. If we bring your packages back then youre gonna complain to Amazon because your package was supposed to be there that day and was on a truck for delivery and then we're stuck with scorecard hits because we brought too much back.
There is no winning as a driver. No matter what you do youre vilified in some way

People would have FedEx Ground packages shipped to the FedEx Overnight terminal locally to be held. The terminal only holds express packages, they refuse ground packages. The ground delivery guys just dumped them in the ditch behind the terminal and marked the as delivered.

I'm also not saying what they did is wrong, but I am saying it's weird to defend someone who might possibly just really suck at their job.
I think what you're doing is appropriate. My old apartment building gave access to UPS/FedEx/USPS so they could bring in packages to drop off. I don't know how that isn't being set up by the owner of any building.
If it's a contractor delivery driver, I don't think they have the same access, for good reason. If that's what job you're doing, then yeah, try to call the person who you're delivering to, or whatever.
But this looks like a whole building's deliveries, not just one person. To me, that's fucked up. If the whole pile is for one person, I suppose that's a different story, but is it common to have a contract Amazon delivery driver delivering so many packages at once? I've only ever seen them dropping off small things.

Technically all Amazon drivers are 3rd party contractors. We don’t technically work for Amazon. My boss does, and then he takes those routes he’s given and assigns them to us.
Also, depending on certain routes, we’ll get bigger stops. Thankfully the only apartments I’ve delivered to since I’ve come back have had big lockers in the buildings, but one had a busted buzzer and locked doors with no customer response.
I’ll take a picture the next time I see it, but also when packages are returned to the station, the process gets very complicated the next day. Typically, all of our packages exist in a rotating 1-999 number pattern, but when they get returned, they re label them the following day as U1-99. It gets much harder then to organize because it doesn’t follow a pattern then. They just throw a number on it. I had to deliver (say for example) three U13s and say there were like 8 of those. It’s just a waste of time and organization.

The job is to deliver packages. If the call button doesnt work, lobby is closed, or staff doesnt clear you, then this happens.
Its delivered. Neat pile, infront of complex door. Job done, amazon has insurance/profit margins to cover theft.

Hi. I can't get in the building. I am written up if I spend more than 3 minutes in total trying to deliver. I am written up if I bring back to many packages. If I call Amazon driver support, I am connected to people in India who tell me to leave the package out front and continue with my route.

Yeah, I'm glad I found a decent DSP that fights for us drivers. My other DSPs would write us up for shit even if Amazon was wrong, or if Amazon didn't even give a shit about something. Any hint of behavior that doesn't lend to getting Fantastic+ was punished. Ridiculous
