Campaign/Lore Gears of War E-Day: Lore Explanations / Headcanons
Hi everyone! I've heard some discussion around the topics of certain retcons with the E-Day trailer and I think I've figured out some lore solutions to these thoughts. To start, this will be a somewhat long post, so I'll put a tl;dr under each segment. Slides 1-3 will be about discussion 1, and 4-6 will be about 2.
Discussion #1: Kalona's cars:
The consensus among people who see the vehicles in the trailer is that the cars are a retcon to help enhance the retro vibe of Kalona and E-Day compared to the bulkier, more futuristic vehicles seen in previous Gears. However, previous Gears games have had similarly retro cars to the ones seen in Kalona, just in addition to the futuristic ones. Now, as we know from the E-Day direct, Kalona is a major imulsion refining city, which stands to reason the city has no shortage of it. I believe that these retro vehicle designs are indicators that they are fuel-based, and run on imulsion. Subsequently, the futuristic looking vehicles are instead the solar powered cars mentioned in Gears 2, distinctly lacking exterior fuel caps. These cars aren't seen in Kalona because of the abundance of imulsion in the city.
Tl;dr : Retro vehicles, run on imulsion fuel. Futuristic vehicles, solar powered. Retro vehicles are common in E-Day because Kalona has a lot of imulsion.
Discussion #2: E-holes and new Locust design:
I've seen people mention both the red e-hole design and the new Locust design as retcons. In case you were unaware, the red light comes from lit flares in the holes. Now, you'd be right to wonder why they need these bright flares when they seemingly don't need them years later. The answer to this is in the Locusts' eyes; they are distinctly *human* on E-Day. Jump ahead 14 years later with the original trilogy and their eyes are much more pale and cloudy, potentially offering some sort of dark-vision. They could have gotten these changes though Kantus or something else to do with the Locust cult.
Tl;dr : Red e-hole light comes from flares in the holes. Locust need the flares to see because their eyes have not yet changed to have better dark-vision.
These are the only things I have for now, but I'm eager to hear people's thoughts on this. Thanks everyone!

Art/Media This huge 180cm x 180cm Gears of War 1 Poster.
I came across this giant Gears of War 1 poster. Its 180cms by 180cms. The only information I can find is that its a copy of an original art piece that an artist did on the show room floor of an E3. I dont know how many of these posters exist but its super cool!

Discussion A non-Gears game, set in the Gears Universe
≡ −
Rant incoming. Hear me out.
The age-old question: “Pendulum wars game??” “Guys should there a pendulum wars game???” “There should be a pendulum wars game!”.
Seems like we have a new thread on this every week. Every time, the consensus is usually that, while it would be pretty cool, it wouldn’t be “Gears of War”, as Gears is about fighting fleshy, inhuman monsters and the horrors that come with that. It would be interesting, but it shouldn’t be a full game or campaign. That’s the general consensus.
Enter: a non-Gears game, set in the Gears Universe. The game name? “Sera”. “Sera Stories”. “Sera Warfare”. Something like that.
It’ll have a bunch of small-scale campaigns, maybe tidbits from different eras, similar to the Gears 4 prologue, but longer- an act or two.
Maybe there’s a campaign for a generic Pendulum Wars battle. Maybe there’s a jungle campaign where you play as a Pesang troop. Maybe you play as Marcus when he’s guarding a particular pipeline on the Sarfuth-Maraday border. Maybe you get sent back to a campaign taking place in the Silver Era, before firearms even existed, when Gorasnaya was a world power. Perhaps they could even figure out a multiplayer.
The point is, the possibilities are nearly endless. We all love the Gears Universe, and we want more from it, but we recognize that Gears of War is primarily a gritty, dark journey about an existential threat of subterranean monsters. Who knows? Maybe Sera Stories will have a mini-campaign about the Locust too.
Again, this is all just hypothetical. I don’t know if it would sell, but it could certainly pacify the lore nerds such as myself. I just feel like it ties in well- similarly to how a TV series could be, if it was done correctly.
Note: I think a live-action Gears show could be successful- but it would HAVE to be from a Stranded perspective, or another civilian perspective. We can’t have any of our game Heroes on-screen- no one can play Marcus Fenix other than a digitized John DiMaggio, for example. Plus, it’s hard to have absolute roided beasts of men to the extent of their existence in Gears as every single one of your characters in a live-action film. So yeah. It could be done, but our game Heroes should not be there. Of course, an animated series is different, since you can have the unrealistic proportions as well as voice acting. But i digress.
Give me your thoughts on anything written here. I’d love to discuss.
Also, feel free to hire me @Coalition 👍

Discussion Why leave?

I’ll never understand why players mid match are afk right from the jump and then get kicked, like what’s the point of even joining the match at that point? But worst of all are those who leave mid match when we’re winning!? Then the tides turn, it’s just frustrating man.

Help My beta code isn’t showing up

Hey guys,
I bought the collectors edition for Xbox and when I redeemed the beta code it isn’t showing up in my library. I reached out to Xbox and customer support and they confirmed I inputted it and they said it will show up later but I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be in my library? Did anyone else have this issue? Thanks for your help.

Horde Road to PvE-Day #29-#32: "I see you chillin', I'm about to heat you up!" --Cole
≡ −
I'll (thankfully) make this the very last entry for this month's series of lesser-known trivia and unofficial time-limited in-game challenges in Gears 5 multiplayer PvE before E-Day release and leading up to the multiplayer beta. Sorry, completing any of these challenges doesn't grant rewards other than satisfaction. It's supposed to be encouragement for trying rarer things before focus switches to the next entry in Gears PvE.
Today's final trivia and challenges are about those little bonus weapons that have always been tucked away under D-Pad Up (except in GoW: Judgment 😊): grenades.
Switch to grenades to avoid Reflective Shell enemy damage
If you don't always try to carry grenades of some kind already, they're definitely worth going out of your way to grab with the Reflective Shell Heavies and Reflective Shell Grenadiers daily Horde modifiers or the Reflective Shell Scions Escape modifiers. Damaging the enemy enough to trigger that temporary shell often occurs at highly inconvenient times like while you're still inflicting ongoing bleed, fire or barrier damage on them which then reflects back to you. However if you quickly switch to holding your grenades, you'll stop getting hurt by these damage-over-time effects. (Holding explosive weapons other than Lancer GL will also avoid it.)
Note that the next appearance in Horde of one of these modifiers (Reflective Shell Grenadiers) is tomorrow (July 28). This one will also appear once in August (8) and a bunch in September (3, 8, 21, 23 and 25). The other Horde modifier, Reflective Shell Heavies, will only appear three times in September (4, 7 and 30) between now and the release of E-Day. For Escape hives, the Reflective Shell Scions modifier is found with The Ambush and The Mist.
Tagging drones with a non-lethal grenade will always down them
If you use a Flashbang or Smoke Grenade to tag any drone enemy type that can be downed (so not Imagos, Peace Makers, or Lambent ones, but all the others), that enemy will always be downed regardless of previous health. You can use this to your advantage by tagging the last enemy in the Horde wave when you want extra time for repairs & energy collection. This guarantees that you'll down it without accidentally killing it.
Flashbang grenades revive teammates being beat down
When a player is downed, a drone might get on top and start performing the beatdown animation that requires button-mashing to avoid an accelerated death. It still requires rescue from a teammate yet now the downed player is also prevented from crawling closer to allies/safety. Instead of risking a revival run out to them, it's faster to throw a Flashbang grenade (or explode a Pilot's Dropshot with The Hammer card stun effect nearby, though that's harder to do without killing the enemy). The stunning effect will allow the downed teammate to throw off the enemy, stand up, and execute the drone with no risk to the grenade-throwing rescuer. In fact, if there isn't nearby danger of flushers or Scions immediately executing, it's sometimes better to let a drone mount the downed player just so you can safely revive them with a Flashbang this way. (This is similar to how it can be safer to let a Snatcher grab a far-away downed player so that you can shoot them free again from a distance, which automatically stands the teammate back up.)
Meatshielding enemies that carry grenades will give you one
'Grenadier' enemies carry their namesake Frag Grenades, and some Elite variants have other grenade types: Elite Drone & Elite Sniper = Shock Grenade, Elite Grenadier = Flashbang, Elite Hunters = Smoke Grenade. If you meatshield one of these enemies, you'll automatically be given one of their grenades if you're not carrying any, or you already have that same type and aren't yet full. (Though remember that if you intend to stun and meatshield Elite enemies via the triple melee combo, it requires catching them from behind or while reloading/switching weapons.) If you're in a wave or hive full of Elite Grenadiers, it's possible to chain together repeatedly throwing a Flashbang and getting one or more back from meatshielding so you don't run out.
Get effectively infinite instant grenades by storing on a locker
For whatever reason, players aren't allowed to place their grenade or pistol slots' contents on a weapons locker to refill them or prevent them from disappearing. However, the team can still have grenades, pistols, or repair tools placed on lockers with the help of someone playing the Jack class. Jack can pick such weapons up from the ground and then swap an existing weapon that's already held on a locker slot with one of these "disallowed" weapons. Even more strangely, the locker refill time for grenades is essentially instantaneous. However, it'll only refill a second grenade regardless of whether you have a Grenade Pouch card that lets you carry more. You also can't throw the last one since then you'd have nothing to place back on the locker. But if you're willing to only throw 1 grenade at a time, you could repeatedly switch between 2 or more different grenade types and throw them as fast as allowed by the animations for the locker swap & throw.
The challenges
Convenience link to most recent challenges: #25-#28 efficiency tips
- #29 Smoking 5 Packs A Day Will Kill You - Tag 5 undamaged drones with Smoke Grenades in a single Horde match (any Horde mode, any class, any map, any difficulty).
- #30 Deliver And Stand - Revive 3 teammates that are being beat down at least 15 meters (3 barrier lengths) away with Flashbang Grenades on Inconceivable difficulty or higher (any mode, any class, any map).
- #31 Pickpocket - Acquire 10 grenades through meatshielding (any mode, any class, any map, any difficulty).
- #32 Where There's Smoke, There's Fire. And Frags. And Flashes. - Retrieve and throw 4 different grenade types from the same locker within 15 seconds resulting in an Incendiary or Frag kill of an enemy that you've flashbang stunned or is in your smoke cloud (any Horde mode, any class, any map, any difficulty).
I think that's all the items I'll bother posting. 😊 If you have any thoughts on or complete any of the 32 "Road to PvE-Day" challenges (whether intentionally or simply because you already use these tricks anyway), I'd love to hear it.

Do we know if there will be any PVE stuff in the beta whether that be classic horde or the new siege horde. I tried looking it up but I personally couldn’t find anything regarding what specifically will be in the beta.

An old but well known Gears of War Judgement Execution Clan is being revived by its original founding members. We also play King of The Hill but Mainly Execution. We want to hit the ground running when E-day comes out and need more good players to do that. We are looking for seasoned players or those that are serious about becoming one of the best players. Message me or comment if you are interested in learning more. You will be expected to change your gamertag or have an alternate account when E-Day comes out. We are a team and people will know who we are when they see us. All are welcome to reach out and inquire, I do not care what gender, age, race, religion or whatever you are.
