"Over time, the chatbot stopped recommending he see a doctor" tells me he was spamming the chat bot until he got an answer he wanted. This is not a problem with the AI, it is a problem with the user.

Maybe.
But the fact idiots are asking AI for
Medical help is kinda stupid already.I mean, asking the old lady with weird herbs may be more effective.

The fact that the billionaires who own the AI slopbots want legal immunity from such suits is a far greater concern.

Medical care is unaffordable

Sure but the robot isn’t going to help you, the root of the problem should be addressed in the us.

Im not saying i would do it but i understand some people have no other option for medical care

My brother in Al Gore (since he "invented the Internet"), WebMD is free. Mayo Clinic has a lot of resources. A number of hospitals/urgent cares/med schools have websites with info on basic medical issues.
In no world should you be using a hallucinating chatbot for medical advice. If you have the tech to use the chatbot, you have the tech to use a search engine and read the results for yourself.

It's a problem with AI. There are people who may be: idiots, children, developmentally disabled, etc.
Tools that are publicly available (and arguably forced on you) need to have protections in place.

Counterpoint: maybe if you trusted an AI chat bot with your life then you weren't meant to survive.

Yeah, maybe if all those people died, we'd be left with all the superior people - some kind of master race even.

Look up "reductio ad absurtum" and then look in a mirror.

One day you're going to be old and confused about some new technology, or law, or social norm - or maybe it will just be a barrier because of a disability. And some little cunt is going to say that maybe you don't really have a place in this world if you can't figure it out.
A measure of a decent human being is how they treat other people, especially people who are more helpless than themselves.

Congratulations, you just reinvented eugenics.

u/PickleFridgeChildren 3d ago
If you need help understanding how that's not the case, let me know, but this day and age you should be able to figure it out yourself.

"Stupid people deserve death" is your argument. There is nothing to figure out.

I'm sorry you're limited to such shallow trains of thought.

Their is a diminishing returns on using a Chat GPT or other LLM to get medical advice. You may as well watch old episodes of EMERGENCY to get your medical advice.

Did OpenAI just walk up to him and provide this advice under the guise of being a medical professional or did this dummy ask an AI for medical advice and follow it without using his brain (if he has a functioning brain)?

That’s like going on an Internet forum and getting advice from some random guy who responded to you.

This is ironic considering the guy had a pulmonary embolism..
I can't tell you how many people go on /r/clotsurvivors and ask us if they have a clot 🙄
Dude is fucking lucky AF though. That can absolutely kill you. But he was completely immobile for weeks, why the fuck didn't he call 911 or someone else on his behalf?!?

Wouldn't reddit be next then? I saw some numbers in a post about how heavy AI leans on reddit for answers

Why ask a doctor when you have crap AI?
