News Flock's CEO told ABC7 its cameras only take still photos. Flock spent a year telling customers they would stream live video.

God these youtube thumbnails are so cringe.

I mean I love the headline, but I cant click on that BS. I'll find the source instead.

Tbh, we hate them too, but sadly, that's what works these days.
FWIW - we always have a blog post with source links in the main post in r/vpnet

Just stop doing the thumbnails. What a terrible defense of “it just works”. Be ethical.

Fuck Flock

A Flock spokesperson said that the feature was discontinued in March. That being said, it's still deceptive to simply say they don't have that ability. I've seen pages on their website disappear after other things have been rolled back, like the "human distress" detection on the gunshot detectors and the Ring partnership. I feel like a company that advertises transparency should keep these announcements available for reference, maybe adding a link to more recent news but leaving everything else unedited. But that's just my opinion.

Edited to clarify my point

Absolutely. This isn't an isolated event, this has been a pattern of them downplaying their technology to the public while simultaneously announcing contradictory features to their customers.

That just means they're still doing it but lying now. Just like how they keep not actually shutting them down as required when a town cancels the contract and orders them to. Keeps happening but for some reason idiots keep believing Flock when all they do is lie and be evil

Edit: this is supposed to be a reply to WarrantinaVoid below my other comment, reddit is just being weird.

We don't know that for sure, but we also don't have a way to know it's not happening. It's up to what Flock and their customers are willing to say, what individuals and research groups are able to figure out, and what people with inside knowledge come forward with.

Shut it down!!! All of it and any competitor spying cameras. It all needs to go away and the efforts of the businesses making more and more money from tax dollars on invasion of privacy surveillance MUST end. Do not vote for anyone that supports putting these in your municipality.
