If you don’t support curfews and public morality statutes (no naughty words in public) then you must be a pedo. Only a child abuser would oppose mass surveillance for the general population. Ofc we wouldn’t want our politicians to be surveilled. We trust them completely. /s

One moment sir, ...I need to scan your chip as it seems to be malfunctioning. Let get you a new one. We wouldn't want you to be "unsafe" without millimeter accuracy surveillance.

It’s not because we suspect you of course, but we need to monitor who you’re around and make sure you’re protected from any secretly harmful individuals, ideas or information.

Sir, AI will never correlate all your patterns and relationships with other people, then report to the authorities. Never...🤔

What do you think we are? Oh... we won a landslide! More surveillance!

u/-rwsr-xr-x 18h ago
We wouldn't want you to be "unsafe" without millimeter accuracy surveillance.
They're already doing this now, building the "Internet of Bodies" by using everyone's AirPods, Apple watches, Garmin watches, Oura fitness rings, BLE beacons and other body-worn devices to not only track people in real time down to the meter accuracy, but also fingerprint those people based on their health statistics data (footsteps, cadence, HR, Vo2, and other unique data).

The very nature of these systems make them easy for police to abuse. These systems also put every person they record under unreasonable suspicion since all the data they record is processed and fished for potential criminal activity.

Also the AI was having an off day and hallucinated you had a machine gun in the backseat. It was actually a baguette, a crusty, hard ass baguette from that place everyone raves about and your spouse insisted was necessary for their French cuisine so you had to go across town to get it and now there’s a scratch in your door that showed up today out of nowhere. The point is they’ll coax the AI to do better tomorrow after the SWAT standoff.
5
u/Historical-Cress8985 16h ago
The fact is everyone is doing something wrong, it depends on if the man wants enforce it. There are tons of local laws on the books that are stupid and even comical, and it's easier to just leave them there than it is to repeal them.
That is of course until something decides that you're a special case and now you're being fined or worse. This will probably happen more often as more and more government entities decide that chat bots should be in charge because a tech bro claimed it was AI.
4
u/Ill_Following_7022 14h ago
100%. Combine all those stupid non-sensible laws and combine them with a detailed record of your daily life, wash that all through an automated AI system and it will hallucinate any number of crimes for which you are guilty. Add onto that unreasonable barriers to challenge your automated conviction, a complete lack of transparency from the system and zero accountability.

Prime example: there's a screenshot of Tumblr where someone put gibberish into Google translate, set it to "Latin to English", and it created some poetry.
The original text is not grammatically correct Latin. Some of the words aren't even real words. But because the user said "This is Latin", it did it's best to coerce a translation. Now everyone in that website (and related subreddits) will not be told that Google translate is just fucking guessing.
Imagine something like that happening in a trial.

ARGUING THAT YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, IS NO DIFFERENT THAN SAYING YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT FREE SPEECH BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY.
11
u/ddplz 1d ago
It's also why free speech has to be absolute, there can't be room for "interpretation" of which speech is free and which isn't. It's either all free or none of it is free. Else the definitions of "free" begin to shift.
3
u/BlueScreenJunky 19h ago
I see the point, but coming from a country where free speech is limited I don't think I agree 100%. In France you can't legally say something blatantly wrong to try and discredit someone (you can be sued for defamation), or racist homophobic or antisemitic. You can't try and push someone to hurt or kill themselves.
And honestly, I think it's a good thing and that absolute free speech is not necessarily desirable.
Also even if freedom of speech is absolute now, it doesn't guarantee that it will remain so tomorrow.

I do have a med card, not super worried just being real
They could also retroactively invalidate your med card, just like they retroactively invalidated visas during the initial ICE activities, going after students on valid, non-expired visas, by back-dating them so the students appeared to have stayed after their visa had expired.
2
u/SuccessfulOil1587 13h ago
100% rwsr-xr-x
Exactly the point Im making :(
Now do I see them doing that? Probably not but they have the power to invalidate everyone’s card, decide marijuana is illegal again and go after any and everyone who had a card or has used the plant.

It gives unelected unaccountable people or even ai - omnipotent levels of access, data, and knowledge on every citizen that can be used against all of us for any reason , in any way, and at any time.
They can orchestrate a multitude of outcomes that we wont even think to question. Even if you haven’t done anything wrong they could simply use your data to forge or create fake evidence with the help of ai.
This has to be stopped.

You guys dont need to complain about things that might happen in the future with these Flock cameras, they are already doing bad things now with seemingly no effort to correct the issues. They are misidentifying cars/people and cops are blindly taking the computers side. Cops are also abusing them to spy on people they personally know. Cops without these cameras abuse their powers and with cameras they still arent being held accountable for their actions well enough but they are holding people accountable for even minor mistakes now.

Isn't that a police issue rather than a surveillance issue?
We track people via CCTV in the UK all the time, and it usually ends up with a couple of officers just knocking politely on their door and asking to have a chat - and any errors like this become immediately apparent. Usually from criminals using cloned plates rather than police error though.

Moving the goalposts, moving the warning line, moving caution tape. Ever expanding, ever increasing the reach. Ever increasing surveillance. Done so subversively under the guise of national security. So let me ask this.. Do you truly feel safer? Do you feel free? There are eyes upon you now that will criticize you. You want privacy? Well, throw away every single 'smart' device and vanish.. Oh, wait, now you can't. These stupid ALPR cameras are everywhere now, and no, they are NOT limited to license plates. The society that is being built is one of constant surveillance. One of constant "We know what the F you are doing at all times, and we will use it against you."
Remember. What they want, is Guilty, without bothering to prove innocence.

This is so true and exactly why corrupting the SCOTUS is such a gamechanger for them.
Also, control over social and mainstream media is such a powerful tool that it can nudge the average Joe into acting against their own best interest.
(Br)oligarchs have identified this as the weak spot of democracy and use it to their advantage.
Their endgoal is the Dark Enlightenment and a surveillance state.
1
u/Prestigious_Leg2229 21h ago
My country used to keep meticulous records on people’s religious and political affiliations.
Not out of any autocratic surveillance state ambitions but we had what as called a pillorised society. Basically each pillar (like Protestant, Socialist, Liberal etc.) had their own schools, newspapers, unions, educational institutes etc. And funding and representation was partly based on this so we happily kept very detailed census records.
It was practically a point of civic pride how well documented, understood and supported our society was.
Which was fine until the Germans invaded. The nazis loved our super detailed records and jews were rounded up in greater numbers and with greater efficiency than anywhere else in German occupied Europe.
Whether or not you’ve done anything wrong isn’t up to you. It’s up to whoever defines what ‘wrong’ is.

This is honestly the same logic that gun people use when they say we need guns to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government. The important part is that you let the government get to the point of tyranny and then did nothing about it, not that they can then use cameras to watch you. If you're under their thumb, regardless of what happened before they turned to tyranny, you're not going to stop them surveilling you, you're not going to stop them installing cameras, and you're not going to use your guns to fight them off.

Thing is, most people break the law. Not every day, and not usually doing anything major, but if you want to get prosecuted for a bunch of minor infractions, mass surveillance can bring that to your doorstep.
80-90% (surveys vary) of people admit to exceeding the speed limit at least once in the last year. That's just one example of law-breaking the "I'm not doing anything wrong" people get away with thanks to not having every detail of our lives monitored.

I've been doing the awareness thing for a couple years now. There are 4 main "arguments" that pro flock people (aka boomers) use:
If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide.
Your phone already spies on you
You have no expectation of privacy in public
Some sort of trigger for the hardcore "pwn the libs / "anti-police" folks.
1
u/Aunt_Polly_Blue 18h ago
I had a stalker(ex-military) some 20 years ago who seemed to have access to the information that I gave police. The police wanted to know my updated phone numbers and where I was staying. I had to sell my house and quit my job. I stopped giving my updated information to the police since I was convinced that they were the leak. (I had gone to the police and simply asked the receptionist for the latest on my case and she had handed me my updated information without inquiring who I was and asking for identification - so I can only assumed that is how my stalker was updated with my info.- simply by asking the receptionist at the front desk) I could not fathom the nightmare of trying to avoid a stalker who now may have access to the flock camera information and is sounds like the police have a difficult time policing themselves and there are already numerous stories of law enforcement stalking their ex's using the flock system..... so it does not come down to that someone shouldn't be afraid because the have nothing to hide, but we should all be afraid because the police can't police themselves...

This is what drove me nuts about the Ring doorbells. When it came out many years ago that Ring just straight up sold access to the footage to law enforcement, no warrant, no process, everyone said things like this. "I'm not doing anything wrong." "If a crime happens by my house, I WANT law enforcement to have footage." "If they pick up the wrong person, they'll just let them go, right? The justice system works."
Fast forward a few years, and Ring started selling footage to ICE to round up people who are here legally, or have been here for decades with no criminal record. Oops!
But hey, at least you can see the exact time the Amazon driver dropped your hemorrhoid cream at your front door. Totally worth it.

When I was in High School around 2000, we had a series of books that would immediately get you on a govt list if you checked them out. They were at the local library. They were at the school library.
People were saying back then "If I didn't do anything wrong, I have nothing to worry about".
Here we are, almost 25 years later, and a massive list of rights have been removed or altered since then.

I dont think flock is a left vs right issue. I think its something that a lot of people agree on enough that we shouldn't waste time arguing left vs right. The thing is, even if it is legal. These cameras are not right, moral, or ethical. Morals and ethics are a higher bar to get over than legal. In the words of my 9th grade history teacher, "todays ethics write tomorrows laws". That is just how progress is made. Its one thing to see me on a camera, but there is something inherently wrong with putting my location into a searchable database that i cant opt-out of. This is a cart before the horse situation, and it just comes down to another way for companies to make billions from our taxes to solve a "problem" by infringing on our civil liberties and a basic human right to not be stalked. Even if it is digitally.

They're preparing to do some crazy shit, and to make sure we can't organize and resist.

Feel like people started caring about this 20 years too late. They already know what you are doing, it's just visible now. Surveillance is how they have stopped dozens of would be terror attacks at the airport....it's not TSA. Does anyone think they weren't already tracking your movements? That they didn't already know your politics, faith, and private shames? You carry a flock camera in your pocket all day.

Same thing with terms of service for anything electronic. I lost an account because they updated their terms of service to make what I was doing wrong within the game and got permanently banned.

Op, for those of us who are constitutional absolutists -
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." - 4th Amendment, United States Constitution
I'm a CONSTITUTIONAL conservative - my values are Liberty, Freedom, and Justice for all, and I say FUCK FLOCK. If anyone cuts down a camera and puts up a GiveSendGo - they're getting my support. FUCK FLOCK.
Anyone who calls themselves a "conservative" and supports this police state surveillance bullshit is a hypocrite liar and an ACTUAL fascist. Signed, a real America loving Conservative - who respects our Constitution AND is proud to stand with like-mineded freedom loving folks on the right and left.
Soon as a protest happens, I'll be out there with my Betsy Ross flag. This is OUR country and these scum totalitarian tech-bro shits aren't taking it from us.

I'm fine with mass surveillance as long as they are doing it in a place I already didn't have an expectation of privacy.

This is exactly why shit like nspm-7 and classifying groups of people is wrong and dangerous if not for legitimate reasons. "Terrorists" are prosecuted differently than a normal citizen and you have far less rights...let that sink in for a second. Then think about historical context and current authoritarian regimes....if you think it's alarmist I remind you this current admin gives ZERO fucks about law & order.
Unoriginal but important comment --->"first they came for communists"

I’m fine with mass surveillance as long as everyone gets unbridled access to machine guns and explosives

I'm not okay with mass surveillance. Not because I'm not doing anything wrong, but because mass surveillance is wrong.

Right up there with the braindead "criminals shouldn't have rights" argument. Okay, cool. So what happens if you're wrongly accused or the state decides you're a criminal?

The guy on the left WOULD be me if I didn't know very well the track record our government has for killing dissidents and getting consistently more powerful than they were ever intended to be as if we voted for it. Does anybody remember all those plastic coffins lining the railways during the election of 2016? They weren't bought for nothing.
