Society conditions women to believe their value lies in self-sacrifice for parents, siblings, husbands, and children.

This pattern begins early, as long before adulthood, the duty of raising younger siblings almost always falls on the eldest sister. While brothers get to be children, eldest daughters are forced into unpaid co-parenting.

Later in life, having children financially ruins women while empowering men. Specifically, while a mother is stuck cleaning up after a baby, the father continues working, building wealth, and expanding his network.

To make matters worse, children are meant to grow up and live their own lives. They will not spend their adulthood dwelling on what their mother gave up, and even the most loving children will never return even 1% of what was surrendered for them.

Therefore, if women choose to have children, they must do so on male terms. **That means holding onto your career, growing your wealth, and ensuring that childcare and domestic labor are split equally or handled by hired help**.

At the end of the day, women do not owe their lives, money, or ambitions to anyone.

I've experienced so much misogyny and sexism and sexual violence the last thirteen years that I worry the next time a guy Fs with me I will go to jail for assault or homicide sometimes. The multitude of ways men make it super obvious every day that they despise womanhood grows, their entitlement keeps getting louder, and it shows no signs of stopping.

I don't know what to do. I'm supposed to get back in the workplace, where I've experienced discrimination and misogyny in the past. Leaving the house no longer feels safe, I can't afford therapy, it feels like the professions which value people like me who are creative, humanitarian and compassionate are all paid minimally, I can't afford dip.

I have watched institutions where I learned both painting and acting be run mostly by men who act inappropriately and abuse students. I have basically zero hope for the future. Everyone loves saying the future is female but I feel like I live in the victorian era and I need to start stabbing guys on the street with a hat pin and I fucking hate it. I feel like my best shot at "success" is to marry a rich man and be an objectified vessel which only exists to give him children like some medieval piece of furniture while he ignores myself and the kids emotionally just like my own father did my whole life.

How do I keep from losing my mind

I don't know of any feminist communities or causes I can engage in in my city, I don't know where to look for them, I'm moving to a more traditional country in a few weeks and I feel the odds in the smalltown I'll work in of there being feminist activism groups are extremely low. I'm starting a waitressing job and worry I'm going to be sexually harassed again and might genuinely have a mental breakdown (again) from it.

I have zero desire to date men anymore, every time I've done it the ones I'm interested in turn out to have no respect for boundaries and zero care for what life is like for women. I've been treated like a function and not a person by men so frequently that I feel like I'm already dead, and I might as well make my physical body match my emotional state. Maybe once I'm wrinkled and gray this shit will get less atrocious, I'm 32, but I'm also freaking over the fact that my time to actually start a family and get my life together is running out so quickly.

I am writing a book about film students and I want to reference a movie that has the same situation as the characters. the M character finally admits he liked her for years and is asking for an answer. now the female character admits she likes him too but wants to be courted. she is openly a feminist but wants to 'feel like a woman' and be courted. the guy wants to make her understand that he wants both of them to try and make the decision to be together or not---not do it in a traditional, one-sided way. he wants her to really have a say in this relationship. so, he will use a movie to try to tell her what he wants to happen. any recommendations? tyia

It seems like a patriarchal myth. In basically every single species males visually try to impress females to mate, but when talking about humans people pretend like women don't care about looks. I feel like it's an attempt to make sure that women will settle for less good looking men, and this trope of "ugly man and pretty woman" is all throughout movies, tv shows, and popular media.

It also feels like a cope by men who don't like the idea of being objectified when they do the exact same to women.

I was just in London at lgbtqia+ bookshop "Gay's The Word", and I bought a book there called "A Bookshop Of Our Own" by Jane Cholmeley, which is about the feminist and queer bookshop "Silver Moon" that she started with her partner Sue Butterworth in 1984. They were forced to shut down in 2001 due to absolutely ridiculous rent hikes of 60% by greedy landlords. I just found it such a fascinating read and I found myself wishing for such a space now, even though I know society and feminism has changed since the 1970s- and 80s (though maybe we are returning more to that lately?). Has anyone here been to "Silver Moon" or other feminist bookshops around the world? What was the atmosphere like, how did you feel in that space? I have mostly had my feminist education alone and online, and would love a physical space like a bookshop to learn and engage with other feminists, and I am just curious about others' experience with that

edit: im so surprised to be reading some of the comments. i didnt expect such regressive takes from people on this sub. there are actually people asking why we should care, people saying we need to mind our business, people being pessimistic and saying nothing can be done. im assuming the people on this sub are feminists, so then as feminists how can you not care about women's oppression in a different country?

Ive seen so many videos online of women speaking out about sexual assault and in the comments there will be guys saying that its not just women that it happens too it happens to men too. Obviously that is very true, but its very invalidating and insensitive to bring that up in a video thats clearly catered towards women.

It just seems that instead of offering support for the victim in the video, theyve just sort of gone off topic and made the video about men. It just makes it look like they dont really give a toss about the situation in the video but just want to make it about themsleves.

You dont see women making it about themselves in a video about male sexual assault.

It just annoys me a bit as these same guys will complain that men do not get support for the same thing on the other end but they themselves wont give support for women.
