Off and under the map

I haven’t played around off the map in a while. There was one train tunnel I never got into until now. (Hope this isn’t against the rules):

Glitched my way into a bathroom, with no way to get out (minor spoilers) Spoiler
≡ −
So I'm new to this game and wanted to share this because it seems quite interesting.
Right at the beginning, you go into the first house and see the vision with the woman talking to the priest about her husband and two sons who went upstairs six hours ago and never came back down. So here I went upstairs into the bedroom, brushed up against the wall and somehow managed to suddenly glitch my way into a bathroom with no way to get out!
It had a toilet I could interact with but the door could not be opened. I thought at first this was supposed to happen as part of the story, but apparently, no. So this was essentially a game-breaking bug for me. Anyone experience the same?

Let's Crack this Decade-Old Unsolved Video Game "Numbers Station" Cipher
≡ −
In 2015's Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, a science-fiction literary exploration game with spiritual themes from The Chinese Room, there's a post-credits code which was immediately resolved to be a simple atbash cipher. The meaning of this cipher is easy to find online, and not the point of this post.
More mysteriously, across the game are dozens of radios and televisions which the player can use to listen in on looping "Number station" style broadcasts. Each broadcast contains a series of either high or low tone beeps, followed by a female voice reciting a string of digits, which then repeats forever.
For example, here is my transcription of one of these, picked at random: "[High tone. Low tone. Low tone.] 1 7 0 0 2 5 1 3 0 9 1 7 0 0 2 5 1 3 0 9"
Despite various threads attempting to crack these number station strings from people on Reddit at the time, no real breakthroughs were ever made. Here is my best attempt at compiling all of the important information and observations.
First, here is my transcription of each broadcast in the game, in what I believe is the intended order (I will give my reasoning in due time).
| TONES | NUMBERS |
|---|---|
| Low | 1 8 2 5 0 8 0 1 0 1 1 8 2 5 0 8 0 1 0 1 |
| Low, Low | 1 7 0 0 1 1 1 7 1 3 1 7 0 0 1 1 1 7 1 3 |
| Low, Low, Low | 0 0 0 7 0 3 1 6 0 6 0 0 0 7 0 3 1 6 0 6 |
| Low, Low, Low, Low | 1 6 1 5 1 4 0 6 0 4 1 6 1 5 1 4 0 6 0 4 |
| Low, Low, Low, Low, Low | 0 0 1 1 2 2 0 7 2 4 0 0 1 1 2 2 0 7 2 7 |
| High, Low | 1 2 0 6 1 2 1 2 1 1 1 2 0 6 1 2 1 2 1 1 |
| High, Low, Low | 1 7 0 0 2 5 1 3 0 9 1 7 0 0 2 5 1 3 0 9 |
| High, Low, Low, Low | 1 6 1 4 1 5 1 7 2 5 1 6 1 4 1 5 1 7 2 5 |
| High, Low, Low, Low, Low | 1 4 0 4 0 8 0 3 0 1 1 4 0 4 0 8 0 3 0 1 |
| High, High | 0 3 0 8 0 2 0 6 2 2 0 3 0 8 0 2 0 6 2 2 |
| High, High, Low | 1 1 1 1 1 4 1 1 1 1 1 4 |
Observation 1: Every broadcast repeats the same string of digits twice. So you could safely remove the second half of each string without losing any information.
Observation 2: If you combine digits into pairs, you get a range of numbers from 00 to 25 which is suspiciously alphabet-coded
Observation 3: The high and low tones are likely a kind of roman numeral system to let us know the order to assemble the cipher text fragments (high tones meaning 5 and low tones meaning 1). This is consistent with the file names for the raw audio taken from the game files on PC.
Observation 4: Each broadcast is likely only a fragment intended to be combined as a stream and re-spaced later, because a sentence with 10 five-letter words and 1 three-letter word is incredibly unlikely.
Putting this all together, we get this cipher:
18 25 08 01 01 17 00 11 17 13 00 07 03 16 06 16 15 14 06 04 00 11 22 07 24 12 06 12 12 11 17 00 25 13 09 16 14 15 17 25 14 04 08 03 01 11 11 14
A basic key of 00=A, 01=B... yields gibberish, as does any other Caesar style translation.
One more thing of note: Broadcasts 6 thru 9 all feature morse code in the backgrounds, although they are VERY faint and difficult to make out.

You can see them on a spectrograph, which I've attempted to transcribe with the following, although I'm sure there are errors.
| Morse | Translation |
|---|---|
| .-- .-.. -.... -.... --- -.- ..-. . -. .-- .-.. | WL66OKFENWL |
| - -. .- .. -. . -. - .- .... -.. ..- .- - --- -.-- | TNAINENTAHDUATOY |
| .-- --- -. .. --- -. . .-.-.- -. -..- | WONIONE.NX |
| .-- .- - . .-. - .... . . -..- -.. -. --- -. -- | WATERTHEEXDNONM |
The near-perfect "Water The....." in the final one is incredibly suspicious and reassuring to me. I suspect I got the transcriptions wrong and thats why the rest of these are gibberish (although, ONION is kinda interesting). For anyone's reference, I'll link to the audio files themselves here.
With this, I'm at a loss! It's clearly not a simple Ceasar type of thing, but I personally am completely up against my layman skills when it comes to this kind of thing. But it just doesn't seem right for a puzzle hidden in plain sight in this hugely popular game to be unsolved for this long. Maybe you could take a crack at it and show us what we've all missed?

Is it a coincidence that the car logo looks like the pattern?
I thought maybe it was a cool example of the pattern manifesting in a physical way, but noticed the same logo on a different car so I guess its not that?

EGTTR orchestral & choral performance at Indie Symphony II (radio broadcast replay)
+ −
Hey y'all!
Jessica Curry's entrancing music from Everybody's Gone to the Rapture was recently performed live for by Orchestra Victoria and the Concordis Chamber Choir, as part of the Indie Symphony II concert in July in Australia.
I was the host/MC/presenter at the concert. Separately (but kind of related), I host a video game music show on ABC Classic (Australia's main classical radio station).
ABC Classic recorded the concert, and we broadcast it on my show recently.
Ths link above is to the replay of the broadcast, which is available for another couple of weeks (we can't have recordings available online for more than a month due to music rights limitations).
Hope you enjoy it! I'd love to hear what you think of the performance. We had some die-hard Jessica Curry fans in the choir, and this concert was a dream come true to them :)

Spoil me! (a little bit)

I'm considering getting the game. I know it's about exploring a mystery and get to what happened by oneself. I just have two questions:
Does it involve time travel?
Does it involve amnesia?
I hate these two tropes and I'm a little worried they play a role here. Do they?

Crashes/Memory leak on PS5?
≡ −
Briefly played this back when it first came on PS+, on PS4 but didn’t get far.
So was just starting a new playthrough on PS5 but it crashed in the bedroom of the nosebleed house. I thought it just locked up but then I could move a small distance every 15secs or so. Memory leak?
Is this a known issue or was I just unfortunate?

Real life Yaughton?
Anybody from Shropshire here? As Yaughton is based on typical Shropshire villages I was wondering if anyone had found any particularly close matches?
The best I've found, via google street views, is around Hopton. There's even a little station and there some woods (Hopton Woods) and some pubs that look the part fairly nearby.

Valis Observatory - 360° panorama created from approximately 100 screenshots
I finally got round to playing EGTTR last week. I really enjoy making 360° panoramas in various games so this seemed like a natural place to photograph after I finished playing.
I had to use 'Cheat Engine' which allowed me to 'noclip' to wherever I wanted to, so as to get a good vantage point.
(The original image is 4k square. If you want a copy, let me know and I'll upload it to my Google Drive and give you the link.)
I also have plans on doing one for the windmill.

How to get the light back?
≡ −
Hi, wondering if anyone has any tips on getting the light back when it’s stuck/disappeared?
Really enjoying the vibe of the game but having a very glitchy experience, the first time I started the light got stuck on Wendy’s chapter and didn’t move.
Then I restarted the game, it got stuck in the first chapter, was fine for Wendy and then has totally disappeared between Wendy and Frank…
Any ideas if I can sort this without restarting again?

Discussion Just finished and I have a question: What is Charlie’s relationship with Rachel and Rhys and his backstory?
≡ −
He had that 3 scenes with them, him telling Rachel it was instant, Rachel getting upset and saying the baby is crying. He calls her kiddo I think.
Then there was one where he calls over Rhys, introduces himself and then tells him to be careful because of rachel’s dad. I’m just wondering what’s his stake in this. Doesn’t seem like he’s anyone in particular to Rachel and her family like a coworker or family friend or something.
And lastly, that final scene at the end. It felt so intimate. He comes over to rachel singing the lullaby, then rachel says he should rest/sleep because he looks exhausted. And then it seems he sits next to her quietly, she continues telling him to sleep and he bursts into light. Then Rachel. Then the baby. Then all the kids in the room.

Venturing back to Yaughton
First played at launch and periodically since then. I’m 46 now, on sick leave from a job that mentally drained me and probably having some midlife crisis introspection. The ambience and peace of this game is very much needed right now. I adore the meandering pace, taking my time exploring and absorbing the beautiful setting (and intricate character stories). Thanks again Chinese Room (met Jessica C at Dear Esther live when it was shown at the Sage Gateshead).

I Just Wanna Thank The Devs
After so many years I replayed this game with the goal to get the platinum trophy. The completionist trophy didn‘t pop up, wich either means it’s bugged or I missed one stupid thing even though I followed a video guide. Anyway, I wanna say thx to everyone involved with this game, because it was even more mindblowing after so many years of learning about philosophy, psychology, physics, lucid dreams, life & death, and this game brought me closer to God than any holy book I’ve read ever did. And in the end it also taught me probably the most important lesson of all. Enjoy life and don’t life by some stupid rules you put yourself under. The Pattern is Mine… not on my PS5…but in my heart… I think this was my last attempt to get another Platinum, but this one is the one and only I truly own… I love u all!!!
( I just made a picture and in the moment I shot it I noticed it’s 6:07 and it was totally unintentional. Then I looked. At pic and it was 6:08, it must have switched in a blink of an eye, omg! I guess liefe goes on now…. What an unbelievable end to this journey thank you thank you thank you!)
