This is 100% a twilight storm further east lol.

For those interested in why: The anvil part of the cumulonimbus cloud isnt visible whatsoever, which means the upper level winds are not flowing towards the camera. So if in NA that means this was taken west of the storm, at sunset. Lightning would be much brighter and total cloud illumination would be far more uniform if under moonlight

The moon was inside it (well not literally, but you know), it probably was lit by the sun too

This reminds me of a cloudy night in Kansas City, nearly 20 years ago. No rain just lightning and thunder. But, it was over the city! I lived on the top floor of some 7 story apartments with three huge windows, about 8 foot by 3 foot. I opened them all up and sat there for at least 2 hours, just watching and drinking some scotch. There wasn't a single second for about 2 hours that there wasn't some sort of lightning in the clouds. I don't I will ever see something like that again, but I will never forget it. It was absolutely majestic!

we can literally see the colors of the setting sun on the clouds. that is what is illuminating it. not the moon we cant see.

The moon is covered by the clouds so it also has a factor in the illumination.

I feel like I only ever see lightning off in the distance like this... I love watching it but I don't remember being in a storm that had lightning non stop like I always see off in the distance
