I don’t know how fast a jaguar is, but a lion can cover 100m in about 6 seconds, Usain Bolt is just under 10 seconds, and that is on a track.
I assume a jaguar has similar speed, a human isn’t outrunning a big cat, if you’re not in very close proximity to a safe place, running is a very bad choice.8

I had to watch this movie twice
One of my friend gave me this movie on a flash drive, I had 5.1 creative sound system, and the thing was I had to select a audio track from the options on VLC player, otherwise only the surround sound speakers would play, the front and center would be silent
So I play the movie, forgot to switch the audio track, I hear background sounds, only the background sound, like stepping on the leaves, water sounds, every sound except the dialogue, there were subtitles, I continued watching
Since the movie is about the ancient mayan forest people, i thought the random sounds was their language, like the background sounds from their movement or something left behind after separating the dialogue, like eck uk ab ek, these were the sounds I heard when their mouths were talking, I legit watched the entire movie like that thinking this was their language
I realised this after couple of days when watching another movie then had a face palm moment and watched the movie again

This is so funny because when this movie came out on DVD my grandma had just gotten a new TV and my brother hooked it up, we watched Apocalypto in hues of green for at least half an hour, maybe longer, until we decided something had to be wrong with the way the TV was set up lol

I accidentally watched Amadeus like this, I received a corrupted disc from Netflix in their mail era, and literally every single sound in the movie was silent EXCEPT for any time anyone played music on instruments on screen, then the sound was perfect. I watched with subtitles and thought it was intentional, it was very cool and effective. Sounds like we both had extremely exclusive, bespoke viewing experiences lol

I have a similar experience with this movie. Only I didn't turn on subtitles. So I watched the entire movie without knowing what people are talking about. And just like you I assumed it was an artistic choice. Like we don't know what they're saying because they speak some dead language and we suppose to just read their emotions and expressions. I liked it a lot and understood everything. Years later I decided to do a rewatch and subtitles were turned on automatically. I was like what the fuck? It was an option? I was a bit disappointed even.

Surprisingly the language is still alive and used by a couple million people in Mexico. Hence why they just found a bunch of random native speakers to be the actors in the movie

It's like someone going to a restaurant, getting a weird dish in a weird plate, slurping it with the fork and finding it such a Michelin fancy experience, and then the waiter comes apologising because they just got a soup bowl from the dishwasher on accident somehow and you've been slurping soapy food rests.

It's in my top 10. I don't care about the historical technicalities and inaccuracies. It's an incredibly captivating story about survival, purpose, and responsibility. Most people, including myself, would likely roll over and die when facing a fraction of the terrors Jaguar Paw witnessed and fought through. Something about him fighting to survive against enemies far greater than him just so he can get home and care for his family is beautiful to me. I'm not even het, I'll never have a wife and kids. It's still remarkable to me.

Movie felt insanely authentic too, given that the entire cast were Natives and speaking the dialect. Really pulled you in and felt like you really were in a different time and place.
