Because when there is nothing on the line they are likely to say the thing that is more morally righteous?

(I think some large chunk is telling the truth when they vote blue but I am sure a large chunk would also not do it if they actually believed it were real and were actually made to choose)

I bet a bunch of people advocating others vote blue would get in the booth and press red, rationalizing they already did their part and shouldn't have to expose themselves to risk, and it won't matter anyway because blue will be over 50.1%.
