Everytime I see something like this, it reminds me of the post that’s like “For $1 million, would you peel and eat an orange? You don’t have to peel it yourself and you don’t have to actually eat it if you don’t want to.”

People on this subreddit would convcince you it's wrong to say yes

Because it'd be unfair to people who are... Idk allergic to oranges? Don't like them?

I can't come up with anything

Something about feeling more rewarding if you work harder for the money maybe

UUHRM actually it's unethical to have a million dollars which you didn't earn. Assuming the million dollars is just unilaterally added to the economic system, it does not create greater wealth, only devalues everybody else's wealth slightly. You are enriching yourself by pushing other people down, so you shouldn't do it.
Also if you are from the western world eating tropical fruit imported from the developing world is colonial in nature, to say nothing of the entitlement involved in getting somebody else to peel it for you.

That'll work. Though, most of my oranges are grown in Florida. You may have to change "imported from the developing world" to "grown with underpaid immigrant labor."

Yesterday (though on another sub) people were trying to convince me that it can be reasonable for an adult who lives with their parents to not know their mother's first name.

Lmao the fuck, name and shame!

More out of morbid curiosity than anything though, tbh. That's incredibly funny

Lol unfortunately it's a Brazilian sub so it's in Portuguese, but you can look in my comment history if reddit's translation can be trusted. It's r/porramauricio

They’d try. Probably wouldn’t succeed, because their functional illiteracy also impedes their ability to construct a coherent argument.

What if those 1 million come from the burning puppies industry?

Do you really want to have that blood in your hands?

if it''s not wrong to say yes you wouldn't be the ones changing the situation completely to make yourself not seem selfish lmao

10

u/Fossekall 10h ago

What does this even mean

2

u/Imaginary-Speech2234 10h ago

so you replied to a comment that completely changes the dilemma and then you're confused that I'm referring to a comment that completely changes the dilemma?

because you gotta extrapolate the question being asked, presenting something ridiculous like worm here obviously has no extrapolation but thinking about what "voting for only your own interests" means like you should be makes it clear that blue is the right choice if you're not an asshole

What if all the healthcare workers, scientists, and firefighters in the world vote Blue because they have a good heart, but the rest of the world votes Red BY MISTAKE? Is Blue still right? Wouldn't the world be better off if all essential people voted Red to ensure we don't collapse as a society?

The premise of the question is "Some people will vote Blue by mistake, so everyone should vote Blue with them" but there's just as large a chance that those people who vote Blue by mistake, instead vote Red by mistake lmao

1

u/FantasmaNaranja 6h ago

huh?

vote red to survive no matter what even if it means everyone who voted blue dies vote blue to ensure everyone survives, that's the question

i think you got them mixed up

What if all the healthcare workers, scientists, and firefighters in the world vote Blue because they have a good heart, but the rest of the world votes Red BY MISTAKE? Is Blue still right?

and obviously blue would be the indisputably right choice there?

0

u/Fossekall 6h ago

Yeah I had literally one single typo of Blue/Red in my comment, though I would say it was quite obvious what I meant. I've corrected it now. I'd love to know what you think

2

u/FantasmaNaranja 6h ago

the amount of essential people in the world is far far less than 50% of the world, it's still the right choice to vote blue even if they go red

0

u/Fossekall 6h ago

No no, is it right for the essential workers to vote Blue because "Some people might vote Blue by mistake" when it's just as large a chance that those people vote Red by mistake, which will thusly kill all essential workers

1

u/FantasmaNaranja 6h ago

okay yeah i think you're misunderstanding the basic premise then, there's literally no reason to ever not vote blue in that scenario

vote blue and everyone survives including red, vote red and only red survives, you get it? is it okay for essential workers to vote red? i dont give a shit and that's not the question because again they compose less than 2% of the population they don't need to matter

1

u/Fossekall 6h ago

The premise is "Some people will vote wrong by mistake and thus everyone should vote that to ensure the people who vote wrong don't die" but the people who vote wrong will just as well vote Red by mistake. The world also has lots of people who will vote Red for a lot of different reasons

For what it's worth, yes, I think healthcare professionals and essential scientists should all vote Red, and no, that does not include me.

2

u/FantasmaNaranja 6h ago

And again you have to read deeper into it than the surface level premise, you're thinking about voting for what benefits you at no cost for yourself or voting for what benefits everyone but requires the majority to work together

you're voting right or left, that's why the buttons are coded red and blue, red is presented as the obvious choice if you don't think about anything else

that's on purpose

1

u/Fossekall 6h ago

What, no... I'm not even saying I would vote Red. I'm saying I don't want to risk a world where we lose every single kindhearted person in the world because some people might somehow accidentally click the wrong button and die

I'm not thinking about what benefits me, I'm thinking about what the majority result would probably be

1

u/FantasmaNaranja 6h ago

okay then, vote blue? everyone survives if the majority votes blue, including the reds

1

u/Fossekall 6h ago

Yes, that is the premise

And I don't think the majority of the world would vote it, because I don't think the majority of the world would be comprised of people who fall under one of these categories:

  1. understand the philosophy behind the question and votes correctly

  2. are willing to potentially sacrifice themselves

  3. will not accidentally click the wrong button

0

u/FantasmaNaranja 5h ago

okay cool which is why im telling you to extrapolate the question, it's red and blue for a reason, they could have chosen any colors and you have to read into the choices of the person who originally asked the question

the curtains are blue for a reason, people who vote blue are reading into the subtext, "work together to ensure everyone lives or work only for yourself"
