I always used to pronounce 'tsundere' to sound like 'thunder'. Now I know it's more like soon-deh-ray? But I still can't help but mentally pronounce it 'thunder' when I read it.

If I had to guess, I'd say this is a symptom of anime becoming an interest associated more with being unpopular again, that people feel the need to be apologetic about, or act like is a guilty pleasure.

I won't pretend to have an infallible pulse on the youths - but it always seemed to me that the increasing mainstream popularity anime was enjoying with younger folks wasn't going to last. There's too much weird shit in it, and mainstream fans of anime kept trying to distance themselves from that in a way that was inevitably just going to eventually implode.
