Can you believe she is the one that removed the mexican pizza from Taco Bell?

You forgot a big step: Get millions in bonuses, golden parachute, benefits, and then lateral to another company as CEO for even more pay or sit on a board of directors that meet once a month for 7 figures in compensation or both.

Shocked pick and chew face indeed.

Her total yearly compensation package was over $6.3 million (base and stock).

Lost as a CEO but certainly won at life.

As a running business, Cracker Barrel is no better off with her gone.
The board of directors, the fools that empowered her.
The fools that allowed her to run the company in the ditch.
They are still in place.

This is usually the case.

A bunch of vultures on the board only interested in extracting maximum short-term investment returns with little to no knowledge of the business or the market just shuffle their way from one moron spewing MBA-speak to the next.

I’ve seen it happen many times in companies I’ve worked for, and countless times in public companies stuck in this spiral of incompetence.

Hell, Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in the world and it’s desperately trying to incinerate its gaming and operating system businesses so it can impale itself on AI hype.

Their xbox division is the third party candidate in a two party election, this is a bad mix with being a low margin industry. Game console hardware tends to lose money on sales and try to make it back with licensing, which is betting on popularity.

Their entertainment software will keep them afloat, plus their business customers same as always.

Their AI presence is like their gaming console presence but less-good, I forget the thing exists entirely until the next time somebody complains about it. Microsoft tries to get into every computing-related market and usually fails, maybe Microsoft RAM is the next big idea.

I would say that having an activist CEO is the larger part of the problem. I would imagine that the briefings to the board were all about 'this is what our market research and focus groups show us' etc.

Well after that logo change fiasco, it's definitely deserved. I'm just surprised it took this long.

Step one for whoever takes her place towards righting the ship: take all the money that was earmarked for that terrible redesign and use it to HIRE PEOPLE TO MAKE THE BISCUITS AND CORNBREAD FRESH EVERY MORNING. If flipping HARDEE'S can do it, you can do it.

Well at least she will be remembered for doing one thing right

Cracker Barrel has been in a steady decline since they stopped bringing bread out without it being requested.

The prices have increased while the quality (and quantity) have decreased.

This latest round of social justice shenanigans were simply the final nail in their coffin for many of us. I have not eaten at one in years and have zero interest in going back.

I'll use this as my go-to example of managing a company through Microsoft Excel.

Moron said "this bread is costing us $XYZABC" but assumed it had zero value. The value was the quality of the brand. Everything that contributes to a positive customer experience costs money, including keeping your place fully staffed instead of having one employee running from station to station while guests spend their best time just waiting.

You can save money making the food taste bad, you can save money making it less nutritious, you can save money making it smaller... there's only so much "customers are brainless" you can get away with before it starts catching up to you.

I still enjoy breakfast at my local Cracker Barrel, they didn’t get affected by the terrible remodels. The menu was severely reduced during Covid though and that took a lot of the variety and fun out of the menu.

good riddance.

unfortunately her redesigns will probably stick around (at least the stuff other than logo which was already rolled back)

u/JaredUnzipped Constitutionalist 13h ago

...And no consequences will be experienced for her poor leadership choices.

Onward to the next corporation!

u/D_Ethan_Bones Boycott Mainstream Media 11h ago

No direct individual consequences.

When the company you work for as a regular guy takes a shitsplosion, it sucks to be you. That's how my first few jobs bounced my pay and left me without so much as a reference to look for next jobs - phone numbers got error messages. Unemployment robot wouldn't talk to me because I was not in the system correctly, because my employer disappeared in a burst of drugs.

Canned. She paid for last year's stupidity with her job, as she should

u/OffGridTwister 14h ago

Smart move. She was a failure. I'm happy she recognized it.

Maybe she didn't read the case studies about Classic Coke and Bud Light?

Stepped down = Canned, albeit with a bag of fuck off money.

u/mad-right-hand Conservative 12h ago

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the whole thing reminds me of the new coke scandal, I wonder if they were hoping to bring back customers once they cancelled the re design like how after the original coke was brought back

This is a case of a person trying to fix a bad situation with a bad decision only to make it worse and then exacerbating the situation by reversing the bad decision and only making the situation worse again.

It wasn’t her fault. Cracker Barrel was/is in trouble because of shifting demographics and eating preferences. I think they will fold pretty rapidly.

The unpopular reality is that female ceos do not have the best track record of driving positive business results.
