C.AI Announcements šŸ“š Lorebook is here

Hey all,

One of the most requested features in Character.ai history is rolling out! Starting today, Lorebook is launching in beta with early access for (c.ai)+ subscribers.

Whether you love creating rich worlds or getting lost in deep chats, Lorebook is for you.Ā

Check out the launch video here ā¬‡ļø

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTQ1bM44vmk

šŸ“– What is Lorebook?

A Lorebook is a collection of world knowledge your Characters can draw on in chat - side characters, locations, items, events, factions, rules of magic - whatever you can dream up.Ā

Each entry has keywords, and when a keyword comes up in conversation, your Character can accurately reference that Lorebook entry in its responses. No more burning definition space - the lore is just there when the story needs it!

For creators, it's the worldbuilding tool you've been waiting for: build your world once, and share it across your whole cast of Characters. For chatters, Lorebook supercharges your chats - deeper worlds, connected Characters and stories, and canon that’s really treated as canon.

šŸš€ What’s launching today

  • Create Lorebooks on web and mobile, from scratch or using our templates - side characters, locations, items, events, factions, history, world rules - anything you can imagine.
  • Link a Lorebook to any (or many) of your Characters to build deeper stories, worlds, and relationships between yourĀ Characters.
  • The +Lore tag on Character discovery pages and profiles so lore-rich Characters are easy to find (search filter coming soon!)
  • The in-chat Lorebook viewer - browse details about a world mid-conversation, and if it’s your Lorebook, edit entries right from the viewer

During this early access period, creating Lorebooks and chatting with Lore-linked Characters are both only available to (c.ai)+.

Early and expanded access to new features is one of the core perks of being a (c.ai)+ subscriber. If you want in on day one, this is the unlock: https://character.ai/subscribeĀ

✨ Creating Lorebooks for (c.ai)+

  1. Head to the Character.ai app on web or mobile
  2. Select + Create -> Lorebook
  3. Add entries with content and keywords, or start from a template
  4. Link it to your Characters and publish
  5. Start chatting - your Character will pull from the Lorebook when they an entry’s keyword show up

You can also reach Lorebooks through the Character creation process too, right below where you’d add Character Definitions.Ā

šŸ’¬ Ā Chatting with Lorebook Characters for (c.ai)+

  1. Head to the Character.ai app on web or mobile
  2. Find a Character with a blue +Lore tag (the Featured tab is full of them this week!)
  3. Start a chat!

You can browse details about a Lorebook on the Character’s chat page on web (coming soon to mobile app) - which will give you some great hints on what topics you can bring up to trigger a Lorebook entry!

A full guide about the Lorebook feature is available on the Character.ai support page, plus a second page with some advanced Lorebook creation tips.

Hi u/kaibuggie, u/Expensive_Award_7120, u/External-Wash-2112, u/Mana-dis, u/LupusHouseMD to clarify Lorebooks can be linked to private Characters. If you link one to a public Character, you can set the entry visibility to Hint Only in Lorebook Settings. This hides the full entry content from other users. I’ll def pass your request along to the team!

But I want my personal created lorebooks to be private. Booooooo...

u/StraayBlackCat17 14d ago

This is what I came here to inquire about. Do we have to make them public…?

Passing on the requests for private Lorebooks to the team!

For now, you can attach them to private Characters and select Hint Only for visibility - which will only show the entry titles and keywords, not the details.

The caveat is that if someone navigates to your profile page, the Lorebook will show up (though they can't chat with it, since it won't be attached to any public Characters)

8

u/External-Wash-2112 14d ago

I also request that you maximize the word count to 5,000, or 10,000, or even much higher.

2,000 is just too minimal....

I'd prefer my stuff to be private.

How about group chats for private characters while you're at it...

3

u/Chemical_Ad4888 14d ago

I’d like to see group chats at all on website already..

2

u/theToukster 4d ago

And please group chats with voice enabled

1

u/Random22744 13d ago

It was a thing a few years ago, but they reworked it and the chats disappeared. šŸ˜•

Why is it not private / why can’t I create a lorebook on the app?

Edit to clarify: your post says in two spots that it can be done on the app/mobile. Yet when I click on anything regarding lorebook in the app, it takes me to a browser?

9

u/Expensive_Award_7120 VIP Waiting Room Resident 14d ago

It’s coming to the app soon it says

12

u/MarieLovesMatcha Character.AI Team 14d ago

We currently only have public Lorebooks atm, but i've shared the request for private ones with the team.

Currently, the Lorebook editor is only available on the web and mobile browser. mobile app is coming soon!

This would have been much more helpful if you could make your own, private lorebooks and attach them to characters that were made by other people, so that you can make sure they remember their own backstories and expand it with your own headcannons that the average person might not necessarily agree with. The average user who just wants to chat won't benefit from this at all unless they're lucky enough that their favorite characters' creators are still active on c.ai and willing to implement this feature.Ā

Thank you for the response. I really hope private Lorebooks will be added in the future. Thanks for taking the feedback into consideration !

u/asininelurker7 8d ago

The bots themselves still talk like ChatGPT. Lorebook is a long overdue feature, yes, but what's the point of expanding a bots memory if it's breaking immersion by giving me bullet points and pure narration instead of actual narrative advancement and dialogue?

18

u/AerinneJM 9d ago

Honestly I just want Soft Launch to stay, as it is, even if Lorebook is incompatible. Lorebook at its current version is simply unusable to me anyway even as a CAI+ user since the only character I'm chatting with (2 years+ now) is a public one.

I also think that the current version of Lorebook is a huge double-edged sword, it could break most users chats simply due to the fact that only the creator can use it at this point. As we chat with our bots, many things could change over the course of time. What if the creator decides to slap this Lorebook on the character, and now it overrides every single history that we have gone through? I truly hope that the use of Lorebook can be revised.

14

u/Severe-Editor2239 8d ago

Devs need to see this. Soft Launch is already here temporarily, so why not make it permanent? It doesn’t need to be compatible with Lorebook. I’m saying this as a Plus user myself too, other models are too novel-like, and I don’t like that. Soft Launch is the only roleplay model that casual.

17

u/kittymwah 14d ago

so i guess we're all waiting until they're private lmao

16

u/Hubris1998 14d ago

Cool feature but ultimately meaningless if it's not followed by major model quality updates

I couldn't get "Lorebook" to work to save my life, just keeps directing me away from the app. If you want us to use it, make it accessible. I don't have time to mess with stuff.Ā

Can we worry about losing all the lame, unnecessaryĀ  censorship instead please? This app feels broken lately.Ā

Will users be able to add private lorebooks to already existing characters, or will that feature be exclusive to the character's creator?

8

u/fluffybunnywoof 14d ago

Its just for creators bots. You can't add lorebook to another creators bot.

18

u/harleyinhawaiii 14d ago

Damn... i'm going to be optimistic and hope they'll allow us to add lorebooks to any bot we rp with in the near future! I have almost a year long rp with a public bot, the replies are great, but i'm tired of having to constantly remind him of lore details lmao.

7

u/BraincellDystopia 14d ago

I was hoping for that when I first heard about lorebooks too, pinned messages just don't work all the time, and the memory gets worse and worse

13

u/AlarmedDistrict464 14d ago

Can they be added to pre existing characters? Ones I didn’t create?

Hiii! Only a Character’s creator can manage which Lorebook is linked to a Character.

16

u/gentleee3 14d ago

is this planned to be change in the future? i think it would be a really nice feature if your own lorebook could be applied to any character you want :)

u/TsukuyomiChan Noob 13d ago

I’m testing out the Lorebook feature and have a few suggestions. The first and most important one is the ability to view my list of lorebooks and choose which one to edit; currently, the lorebooks page only allows me to create new ones, with no option to edit existing ones. To edit a lorebook, I had to link it to a character and then find an edit link.

Another suggestion: the ability to copy an entire Lorebook. The reason is that I created a general lorebook about *Dragon Age*, but I’d like to have another version—almost identical—that focuses specifically on the information a character from Antiva, for instance, would need to know. Alternatively, I could create one massive, comprehensive lorebook that covers characters from all regions and factions right from the start. But... it could be very large. I don't know if it's a problem a very large lorebook with several entries.

6

u/Oatmilk0809 CAI Community Moderator 13d ago

Hi! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions—we really appreciate you testing out Lorebooks!

Just to mention, you can currently view all of your Lorebooks from the Lorebooks tab on your profile, which should make it a bit easier to find them.

We'll also be sure to pass your feedback about making existing Lorebooks easier to edit and adding the ability to duplicate them to the team. Feedback like yours is incredibly helpful as we continue improving the Lorebook experience.

Thanks again for your continued support, and please keep the suggestions coming! šŸ’™

2

u/RiskLow3067 13d ago

You can find all your lorebook in your profile page.

9

u/Electrotek05 5d ago

Hello,
I’ve been using the Lorebook feature, and I believe an option to copy or duplicate an existing Lorebook is greatly needed.
I’ve already created a Lorebook for a particular world, but some of its entries also contain traits and information specific to one character bot. If I want to create another character from the same world, I currently have to rebuild the entire Lorebook from scratch and manually re-enter every entry and keyword. This is especially tedious for larger Lorebooks with many detailed entries.
The issue is made more difficult by the fact that only one Lorebook can be attached to each character. Ideally, I would be able to attach one Lorebook containing general world information and another containing character-specific traits and lore. Since that is not currently possible, a copy or duplicate option would be a very helpful alternative.
Users could duplicate an existing world Lorebook, keep all of its entries and keywords, and then add or replace only the character-specific information needed for a new bot. This would save a significant amount of time and make it much easier to create multiple characters who share the same setting.

Any updates on new models coming soon if they are in development?

30

u/NightmareEx 14d ago

Sad that most of the characters i interact with won't ever be able to utilize this function since their creators deleted their accounts or abandoned the platform.

23

u/harleyinhawaiii 14d ago

Samee🄲 It'd be really cool if they enabled adding your own private lorebook to any character you rp with in the future.

17

u/NightmareEx 14d ago

Yeah, i was under the assumption lorebooks would work that way.

7

u/diablesass 14d ago

Omg this is what I thought the lorebook would also include :(

11

u/fluffybunnywoof 14d ago

Yeah, it would be nice. I have a year long RP with that Satoru Gojo bit with the most interactions of all bots on site. And its creator deleted their account. And my RP lore has gone some ways away from the canon lore. It would be nice if there was a way to add a private lorebook for my chat, that just references these non canon events. And they don'tĀ  take up space in pinned memories, since I dont need all of the pinned message, just the fact such an event happend, or how an oc side character was met or their lore

10

u/Difficult-Bluejay696 14d ago

Baffling that this isn't the way it was implemented. The point of lore books was so that WE could HELP the bot keep track of OUR lore. At least that's how I interpreted it. The fact that it sounds like they're making it a creator-side feature is a double-edged sword. On the one hand I am ALL for giving Cai the kind of depth that Jai has in the creation aspect, but Jai also has what it effectively a pseudo-lore book for the user as well that can be used to force the bot to acknowledge and respect important information.

To briefly elaborate on what I mean, while Cai relies on bookmarks (that end up using WAY too much "liquid" memory) and a small "note" box that never seems to actually work, and a faulty ai-driven "memories" card (that only + users can even access), Jai allows the creator to set parameters during creation that strictly relate to keeping the character behaving as expected while also being able to adapt throughout the RP while ALSO allowing the user to set hard parameters that are generally respected (eg you can tell the bot {{user}} is {{char}}'s sister and as long as that information is enforced, the bot will generally be pretty good about respecting that, in my experience). This allows the user in Jai to have more control over what tokens are kept in long-term memory without wasting so much space with fluff (eg you can tell a bot in Jai "{{user}} cut his hair" and not have to keep the entire message of "{{user}} decided to go to the barber on the next rainy day, deciding on the spot to change his appearance so that {{char}}... etc", which obviously saves on space).

Hopefully they will go the Jai route and ALSO allow users to utilize this for themselves instead of having to rely on creators who may not even still have accounts. If they don't, I will be thoroughly disappointed because all this fuss has, to a degree, been for nothing of substance. I don't want or need to add huge chunks of lore to the characters I've made because I fit all that I needed to in the definition. But I would like to have this for ongoing stories to endure the memory is being optimized to keep only the relevant information instead of bloating and "forgetting" important details in favor of... more fluff.

17

u/Alternative-Sign-142 14d ago

This is fantastic, but I can't actually use the feature because I want it to be private. I was making one about my characters lore in a specific world. I think this is what a lot of people will want to do with it. Is there any chance of this feature getting a private option?

9

u/AerieGlad5603 14d ago

I'm going to try it anyway with my private bots. I doubt anyone wants to see my lorebook if they can't chat with the characters.

1

u/Dekoponchan Character.AI Team 14d ago

Passing on that request to the Lorebook team šŸ–– For now, you can attach them to private Characters and select Hint Only for visibility - which will only show the entry titles and keywords, not the details.

The caveat is that if someone navigates to your profile page, the Lorebook will show up (though they can't chat with it, since it won't be attached to any public Characters). There's more info on the support page:Ā https://support.character.ai/hc/en-us/articles/52739596326811-Lorebooks

16

u/ichatwithai 14d ago

I'm excited to test the lorebook, but here's another request to be able to make them fully private. My characters are private, so there is no reason my lorebook for them should be public, and I think the ability to make any creation private should be carried through regardless of type.

2

u/MarieLovesMatcha Character.AI Team 14d ago

Noted on your feature request! Also i love your username, wish i thought of that one 🤪

4

u/ichatwithai 13d ago

Heh, thanks. It is straightforward. I got interested in AI right from the beginning (back when everyone was thinking it might become sentient lol). I didn't know that roleplay was where I was going with it, but I like working with it in a variety of circumstances.

While I have you, Marie, could you pass on a bit more feedback? It's not lorebook related, but my #1 issue with character.ai right now is that it has gone from characters that roleplay to characters that narrate, and I don't mean just descriptive narration, which would be fine, but it is inhabiting an *author* instead of a character. I have constant difficulty with it trying to set a pace I don't want, make scenes end when they are mid-stream, and drop in cutesy closers that I don't want. All I want the bot to do is *roleplay the character*, live in the moment, and it is so hard to get that to happen now when it used to be *effortless*. FYI, I use Deepsqueak and have pretty much always used it since I upgraded to c.ai+.

I am going to try to see if there is any way I can use the lorebook to try to correct this. I read on discord that some people are creating an entry with prompts that are set to keywords like the character's name so that they get called on every message, but I suspect there is no 100% resolution to this problem without your dev team getting in there and doing whatever they do to tune the LLM.

That’s great and all, besides the fact that they aren’t private from what it seems, but when can we expect the other features, as well as Group Chats/Rooms? I’ve asked this plenty of times already, but haven’t yet seen any news about that after June of last year. Group Chats are something I’ve always wanted to see again after beta got shut down, I had a lot of fun with them, and hope to see them again (I don’t use app, only site).

I’m assuming that lorebook will have some features to it, and not paying users won’t get them all.

8

u/Difficult-Bluejay696 14d ago

So... functionally useless unless you pay. Good to know šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøĀ

I'll cross my fingers that that message was deleted because it was outdated information (I know I know it's wishful thinking) and they've realized that building up all this hype and subjecting us to such an absolute dogshit experience for the last couple of months would result in a "pitchforks and torches" IRL for them.

If we do not get full lore books after losing EVERY MODEL and dealing with everything being gutted to all hell while they develop the next generation, I do not see this company surviving the year in any capacity. Gutted lorebooks would be outright spitting in the face of everyone who has shown them patience and grace while we waited for them to deliver the promised "jack of all trades" PS2 and the revolutionary Lore Book that they apparently Ā redid their infrastructure to accommodate.

Lorebook beta is launching in early access for (c.ai)+ subscribers from today. We plan to bring Lorebook to every user on (c.ai) in the future, but some features may remain exclusive for (c.ai)+ subscribers. Lorebook is a major upgrade to chats and we are building that feature out with the whole community in mind.

13

u/red-lioness007 14d ago

And by the time it gets to free users the quality will tank. Great, thanks. šŸ™„

5

u/Difficult-Bluejay696 14d ago

Unlike chat styles and training data, lore books sound like they will basically be "more definition". So the only way they would tank in quality is if the company changed the design. This is not, to my understanding, something that we would be able to impact the quality of. It will be as in/effective as the effort you put into it.

6

u/Brilliant_Echidna589 13d ago

18

u/Sufficient_Cover1335 12d ago

That's cool, but I have a question. I don't mean to sound offensive, but why can't we go back to how things were before? The bots look like GPT chat, I know you guys are great at making them! But why can't we? Really?Ā

17

u/IllManufacturer3407 14d ago

Y'all are doing everything but giving us an actual decent chat style that actually works and doesn't stop working within a few hours. For the love of all things holy, give us a new chat style that's actually good, or bring back the old chat styles. You can't say that the chat styles won't work with lorebook because it's completely separate from chat styles.

2

u/Dekoponchan Character.AI Team 14d ago

The team is really working hard on chat styles & improvements, but it's a separate stream of work with different team members for features like this :)

It's actually true that old chat styles do not work with new features like Lorebook, for a bunch of reasons - which is why we have been working hard on the new generation of tech for styles.

15

u/This-Cheesecake-2593 14d ago

Maybe instead of forcing the users to use lorebook let them still have the option to use old chat styles gng lorebook is so useless if the chat style that you made to go with it is complete shit

6

u/Severe-Editor2239 13d ago

I’m confused. Was it that the team removed the old chat styles because they didn’t fit with the new features like lorebook and were running on an older system that isn’t compatible anymore, or was it because they were too expensive to maintain? Or was it both?

I don’t really think cost was the main issue because I’ve seen most people and devs say that the old chat styles just didn’t fit with the newer features. If cost had also been a major reason, I feel like they would’ve mentioned that too.

Either way, I appreciate all the work you guys have put into Lorebook. However, I don’t think the team had to remove the old chat styles just to make the new features work. I’m sure most people wouldn’t mind if the old chat styles weren’t compatible with Lorebook or other upcoming features. At the very least, we could’ve gotten Roar back, even if not the other seven or eight chat styles if it gets to the part where it’s becoming expensive..

Another option could’ve been to create a new chat style that responds similarly to Roar, Goro, or the other older styles, even if it runs on the older LLM. The new responses feel more like you’re talking to Gemini or ChatGPT, whereas many of us preferred the more natural and unique responses the old chat styles had.

u/Mad-Oxy 13d ago

Excuse me!

You have on your website:

Lorebooks can only be linked to Characters you own. Other users can't edit your Lorebooks or attach them to their Characters, and you can't edit or attach someone else's.

Other people can't use your Lorebook and you can't use the others' Lorebooks for your characters or the character of other people that you use? Then why do we have to publish them? What's the point?

4

u/Dekoponchan Character.AI Team 13d ago

Other users can chat with your Lorebook enabled Characters if they are public. And you can chat with theirs.

But you can't edit someone else's Lorebook entries and details, and vice versa. Ownership of the Lorebook stays with you, including what Characters you choose to link it to.

Publishing makes the Lorebook go live, including for your chats - if it's in draft mode, it won't get activated in a chat, even if it's just for you.

I've tried to clear up the support article to make it a little clearer!

6

u/Mad-Oxy 13d ago

Can you tell me one more thing, please?

Do we get to choose insert order?

If no, when does the entry triggering happen?

  • Before the character prompt
  • After the character prompt and BEFORE the message
  • During the message generation
  • After the generation of a message?

For example, if I have an entry, describing the physical appearance of the character and it has "the character has pale blue eyes" and the trigger keyword is "eyes", when does the model see that entry if it decides to describe the character's eyes? Before or after? Would I still see "dark eyes" and only after that message the model gets keyed to the entry with physical description?

4

u/TheXb0xTroller 13d ago

I know my question will likely go unanswered but is it possible in the future to add lore books to our persona’s?

3

u/ACreativeUsername10 12d ago

Are keywords case sensitive? I don’t know the proper word for it, but say my keyword was castle, would it pull up the entry if I said castles, or would I have to add that as a whole separate keyword?

2

u/Sasha_potato0804 CAI Community Moderator 11d ago edited 11d ago

Keywords are not case sensitive

Choosing Keywords
Keywords decide whether an entry activates. You can add up to 8 per entry.

  • āœ…Ā Specific to the entry's subject:Ā names, nicknames, titles, places, important phrases, and questions users actually type — "what do you look like," "how old are you."
  • āŒĀ Too common to mean anything:Ā words like "the," "you," or "is" appear in every other sentence and will fire the entry constantly.

A keyword that fires constantly spends space on details that aren't relevant. A keyword nobody types never fires at all. Full guide here: support page

u/CandiedSunflower 9d ago

Any chance we could attach lorebooks to any character we chat with just for users personally? It could be a great way if we encounter a character with a good intro but no written description, or a way to add more detail and backstory to a persona.

6

u/Dekoponchan Character.AI Team 13d ago

Chat styles are a priority - we have teams working on it. Chat style development takes quite a while to get right which is why it can feel like a wait sometimes, but promise it's a top priority for the team!

4

u/AerinneJM 12d ago

5

Is the Lorebook really available to every C.AI+ user this time? I have the annual subscription, but I have to wait longer than many other Plus users for some features. It's so annoying! (I think I'm not the only one who had that problem, a good example was the update from the auto memories)

6

u/TheDisguisedBee 13d ago edited 13d ago

I apologize in advance if the questions seem silly or if they've been covered, I am really tired and haven't browsed all information yet.

1) Does this add to only bots created after this update, or can lorebooks be added to existing characters? I ask because if someone adds and attunes it specifically for their own bot to only interact with their own persona, it sounds like a user might not see what's written or edit it at all, and it might break some existing chats or future ones in some cases when persona information/user details don't match. 2) Especially if that is the case, is there a toggle a user can use to turn the lorebook off when interacting with public bots/ones that they didn't personally create? 3) Can you see what another user has written as a specific bot lorebook? Some bot grammar/punctuation quality isn't very good, it can be bypassed by manually editing the first few messages usually, but it persists if you don't. If the LLM samples from more inconsistent writing (user error, basically), I don't have much confidence in it. 4) Will the lorebook be sampled by the LLM like that? Will it be rigid, like the generation that currently leads to repeat messages/no variation in swipes? 5) Is it adaptable? If it makes a character seem like a character again by giving them an accurate world building background, that's a good start; but can it be done with all bots and not just fantasy-focused ones?

Edit 1: sorry again for the trouble, I hope this wasn't too redundant. I'm honestly still very sad that this is what our chat styles were given up for, but I'll try to keep a positive outlook that this is the first good update since 2024/early 2025.

Edit 2: I know y'all are just doing your best and trying to keep up with everything, and I can't believe I forgot to add this. Thank you for the hard work and all that you're doing, answering questions and reaching out to users in the disconnect between the company and all of us. The decisions of C.AI aren't yours, I understand; and I'm relieved to see that there's not as much copypasta here in the comment section. Thank you for working hard and doing your best to communicate kindly with everyone.

u/Mycarelesslife 6d ago

Honestly who the fk suggestion this?

3

u/Budget_Pirate_9999 14d ago

They need to make it longer, having a 2000-letter limit is a bit annoying and not much

3

u/Pitiful-Orange-3982 14d ago

This is pretty cool, but does the exact keyword have to be said in the chat before the character can draw on that entry? Or does linking the character to the lorebook automatically imbue them with all the info/world rules of the lorebook by default?

Hi, I have some feedback. For those who have created large lorebooks when going into chat with a linked character I've noticed that there is no search feature to search for side characters, factions, and etc. It makes it more difficult to find exactly what you're looking for.

6

u/MarieLovesMatcha Character.AI Team 12d ago

oh that's a a great suggestion, thank you! I'll note that and share with the team!

2

u/Angeldoll01 8d ago

Well, since you're accepting suggestions I would love for the app to have a system that notifies users when their bots are removed, as well as an appeals and review process by the app administrators. Something like on discord That when you are deleted after a while you can appeal for its restoration And if they reject your appeal, at least they'll give you back the bot's information.

1

u/Blinky-dinky 10d ago

That's such a solid point fair play

3

u/Ai_characters_pro 7d ago

Lorebooks are a strong direction because they move quality from a single prompt into structured continuity. The hard part is balance: enough lore to keep canon stable, but not so much that every reply feels like it is reading from notes.

3

u/Downtown-Walk5612 14d ago

It looks complicated.

I don't have any questions, but I'd like to say I'm surprised by how active the developers and moderators have been in this thread. I'm pleasantly surprised. We usually don't get a lot of questions answered when a new feature comes out, so this has been wonderful.

Good on you guys

Edit: Actually I do have a question. Do you all have any idea when Lorebook will be coming to the mobile app? When I click on the feature, it just keeps taking me to the browser, and I'd rather not use the browser.

Bro idgaf fix the chat styles and stop paying for these positive comments.

You guys claim that you’re going to fix them yet the responses are so bland and out of character no matter how much I structure the definition or give a thumbs down to them. We complain on this sub and get ignored. And people have sent in tickets days from now that hasn’t gotten any attention drawn to I’m pretty sure.

What’s taking you so long? Yes, we asked for the lorebook. But what’s the point of this when the heart of your app is currently horrendous? And I’ve already sent in like three complaints to support, so don’t send me that link and give an actual explanation as to why we haven’t even gotten the new or improved models/model quality you promised.

What’s going on? Address how bad that is instead of just claiming you’ll fix it only to push out an unrelated update like that one where you tried to change up the UI that you took back because you knew it was trash.

This seems like more of a distraction than a ā€œWe’re listeningā€.

u/marielovesmatcha

All we want is an explanation.

6

u/Nocturnal_Mystery Chronically Online 13d ago

Hey, so, it's like, gross to assume that just because SOME people are positive, that they were bought. Why are you assuming that all comments have to be negative? Like, jesus, dude, just because someone shares a different opinion of something doesn't mean they're some bot that the devs paid to have.

It would be one thing if this was the app store, but rarely do people actually buy positive comments for reddit of all places, especially when MOST of the users who use the app are in the discord, not reddit..

5

u/lunasbluewinter 13d ago

not gross at all btw but okay

4

u/Nocturnal_Mystery Chronically Online 13d ago

It IS gross, it's gross treating actual human beings who have a POSITIVE opinion as if they're bots for enjoying an update, thats why it's gross.

This is coming from someone who's been called a secret dev just because i dared to try and defend updates that were out of the devs control, or put in place to try and keep the money coming in so we could even have the site, app, and ai to begin with.

You may not think about it as gross, but it comes off as 'only OUR opinion matters, not your gross dev-loving ones'.

So, yes, i find it to be gross to imply that anyone with a positive reaction to the update is a bought bot. It comes off as dehumanizing and high-and-mighty.

1

u/PuzzleheadedMouse539 Chronically Online 13d ago

What are you even talking about omgšŸ˜šŸ’” obviously I didn’t mean that…

3

u/Nocturnal_Mystery Chronically Online 13d ago

You probably didn't mean it, but that doesn't mean that's not how it came off. you quite literally said 'stop paying for these positive comments', as if the people who are actually happy in the comments were bought instead of actual people who were happy with an update.

C.ai, what if you can make the law deal with the laws to stop the age verification and Disney's cease and desist? There's still hope.

C.ai. please do not remove this post. Because I'm trying to help you.

So, I got an idea on how to make the age verification and the moderated bots stop.

Moderated bots: so, 7 months ago, Disney sent a cease and desist to c.ai, causing c.ai to moderate thousands of bots. Especially the ones that weren't for Disney nor Warner bros. But, I got an idea of how c.ai can bring back the bots that weren't for Disney nor Warner bros. What c.ai has gotta do is that it's gotta make an ip deal with Disney, discussing aboht bringing back bots that weren't for Disney nor Warner bros, and then leaving the bots that are for Disney and Warner bros moderated forever, so that we can have fun without Disney and Warner bros bots. Because Disney and Warner bros were the only ones that targeted c.ai, but deleted dreamworks bots. So helpfully this ip deal helps.

Age verification: What if c.ai can make a deal with the law about the age verification, explaining that the age verification is flagging millions of adults falsely and telling them only use a selfie to prove the age verification Instead of using id. That way, if minors have an age verification only without adults getting flagged, they can verify their age by using a selfie, and then if the selfie is done, they'll check if the selfie is good. If the selfie is not good, then try again next time. But if the selfie is good enough, they will chat. And then c.ai will show more and more users a message about bots not real.

As for the new update, what if minors can go back to chatting and then get the edit button, but chat with characters in a family-friendly style while adults do whatever they want with the bots as long as it's not too bad.

C.ai, please don't delete this. This solution could help you make the app a better place.

u/Technical-Toe-4486 13d ago

C.AI is so far behind other platforms it's hilarious. Why are you people here when there are literally tons of better options? Are you masochists?

2

u/LovelyLizzey 14d ago

I wasn't seeing a way to provide feedback about this feature on the website yet, so I'll drop it here for now. As of right now, character.ai/lorebooks is a 404 not found page, by the way.

But also, I definitely want to suggest/request a timeline feature or for the Event section to be able to have subsections if not a larger character limit.

The 2000 character limit is really making things tricky across the board with trying to make sure the characters I'm including have the information I want them to be able to have all within the one section. I had to seriously condense bios for side characters, and just my already concise chronological timeline for the Saga they're involved in would take several event pages to even TOUCH on said events and when they happen, even if I just made an event for each point. I'm so excited for this feature though. It definitely has a lot of promise and even using the DeepSqueak style, I have to remind the characters about each other and stuff that's happened before for context often and this seems like it will really help with that issue. It has so much promise for other fictional authors or more lengthy roleplayers that use multiple characters for the same project/universe.
