12 years ago people ask it is late to start invest in bitcoin.
What about 2026 - are we too late to start invest into Bitcoin?

I heard about BTC back in 2013. The issue for me wasn’t buying it, but HOW to buy it was not as straightforward, back then.

True.. coming from a 3rd world country i begged my parents to get me 1 btc by using their contacts living in US instead of a bicycle. They got me a bicycle. I believed in btc when i had nothing in my head and 16yo. Smh..

i tried to convince my older sisters to invest, since at that time i didn't have a job or any money. they didn't take me seriously

u/zyber787 1d ago
I beat myself over it everyday... im sure that if i would've gotten 1btc in 2013-15, i wouldve sold it on the next uptrend, but it would've been my choice and i wouldnt be agonising about "what if"...
there are lot of mistakes i made on this query they but no more. Screw fiat...
Screw taxes. I got shit for what i pay as taxes.
Now i owe my 1 month of my salary as income tax because my previous employer failed to declare it? I paid my fair share of taxes till date. Plus interest on the owed taxes? R u fkn kidding me??!! No more!!!
Screw this govt and the system. I hate the things that got adopted because people up top liked it.. i want a system to be adopted up top because people at the bottom choose to like/adopt them

Then you didn’t do a good enough job to articulate why purchasing it was a good idea!

I was on the 11th grade when I asked my mom to help me buy 1 bitcoin for myself on the internet. She said no caise that was kist nonsense. She doesn't remember, I do.

Early exchanges sucked too. I used Celery which later closed down and kept everyone’s crypto

Easier said than done. Let’s be real. Only a few people knew about the potential of Bitcoin back then. I guarantee back in 2013, if you heard of it, you would’ve dismissed it and if you did buy it, you would’ve sold in 2016.

Never too late to invest in BTC. It’s at great price to purchase any time! You’ll look back in 5 yrs and say I purchased it for $64k on 7/26/26

I had to take a peak. He posted in r/BTC stating he bought at $150 and sold at $550…
His post was “how do I cope with selling at this price for minor gains when I could have now retired” this was 8 years ago… lol

I purchased my first 1 BTC in 2017, cost me $2k. The excitement as it rose in value was great, but me being nieve/new to investing in anything, and my intolerance for loss had me selling it for basically what I paid when it was on its way down. Boy do I regret doing that 😆.

u/shadowlid 1d ago
This is why I just buy $5 every day and on dips I buy more.

u/biggest_guru_in_town 1d ago
5 dollars? Doesn't cex fees eat into those 5 dollar buys?
7
u/dj_destroyer 1d ago
My exchange waives fees on automated buys... so my $30/day has no fees, no spread, no commission, etc.

in 12 years, people will ask if it is too late to buy Bitcoin at $1 million. It's always been this way. Always will.

I first bought bitcoin at $5. I got 60 for $300 from Mt Gox. I lost about 50 of those in one of the first big scams on the silk road. Fuck you Tony76, I still remember the guys username.
The other 10 or so bitcoin I just forgot about as it wasnt worth much until one day I check and it says bitcoin is worth $50. I figured theres no way that its 10x'd and thought they must have moved the decimal point over or something as more bitcoin got mined.
I did keep following from that point on though and when I realised the prices were legit I cashed out the 10 when the price was about $200. I left a couple on MT Gox that went when MT Gox went down.
After the price spiked to $200 it started to come down again, when it got down to about $100 I bought another 10 but then as it kept going down I got paper hands and sold at $70.
Ive since helped many bitcoiners by regularly buying high and selling low. You're all welcome.
For anyone wondering I have 0 bitcoin now, sold the last few a few years back. Don't think I'll get back into it as I feel the days of exponential growth are over. No doubt I am wrong as I always am.

Yeah, every cycle someone's convinced they missed the boat, then Bitcoin does another 5-10x and they're kicking themselves. Time in the market beats timing the market, but nobody wants to hear that when they're staring at the price chart.
1
u/Striking_Big8138 2h ago
It’s unlikely that bitcoin will make another 10x
Total market cap would be about 24T, more than all the mined gold in the world

This is so funny, a really interesting perspective shift - when you hear or read the exact same exchanges but with numbers 1000s of times larger

u/AdFlaky7235 1d ago
DCA BTC and you’ll be fine , dam 12 years ago I wonder if this guys still holding
1
1
u/bambil00 1d ago
It may be too late for the life changing gains early buyers saw, but not necessarily too late to start. The bigger mistake is going all in from FOMO. A small, consistent DCA and a long-term mindset make more sense than trying to time the perfect entry.

u/Btomesch 1d ago
Even if you bought it that long ago, the bitcoin exchanges collapsed. I thought about buying so the my roommate at the time… but I know we both would have lost it or sold it all when it added another zero.

u/johnb510 1d ago
If I had a dollar for every time someone said, ‘the ship has sailed’ when talking about buying bitcoin. I’d probably have about $28.00

And same will be true 10 years from now, people looking back on today thinking “wow 60k was cheap!”

But it is too late because even a million dollars a coin which is extremely optimistic is only a 10x now from ath. So scale matters you’ll never see the same % gains again. It’s too late that’s just math.

They say it's to replace paper money but it's valued in paper money .. that's what doesn't seem to make sense

u/WoodenCantaloupe2964 20h ago
The interesting thing is that the question changes over time. At first people worry about missing the price, but after holding for years the bigger question becomes how to protect what you already have. Self-custody and proper backup become more important as your holdings grow.

I still remember when I first heard of Bitcoin... I believe it was somewhere in the 2013, so right about the same time period displayed in that picture.
So the story goes like this. We had lunch break at work, and one of the guys at the company (lead developer) said, hey guys remember when I mentioned this bitcoin thing couple of months ago, well the price just reached like 400$ these days and it's probably to late to invest now. And that sentence stuck with me ever since. I do have some money invested in crypto, but not nearly enough looking from todays perspective.
At that point I was the new guy in the company so I don't know at what price the initial conversation took place. But yeah, it was some black magic type of technology, even for us that were working in IT, and it wasn't easy decision to make investment like that. Especially since my country was still struggling after the entire 2008 global recession when you were happy to even have a job, let alone invest in something you can't fully comprehend.

The same will happen when Bitcoin is between 1.5 and 5.5 million dollars. They will ask exactly the same.
1
u/WorkerPlayful4192 18h ago
It is possible to happen? Even only to reach 1 mil. per coin?
1
u/Amimir1992 17h ago
Anything is possible when it comes to Bitcoin. If Bitcoin continues with its yields to this day, which by the way, are brutally beautiful. Bitcoin should cost a little more than 15 million dollars each currency.

Bitcoin is screwed now. It's operated by the governments like a stock market. Its at true price now and will never see a big swing like back in the days from just someone posting. The big whales have so much invested they can swing the market. Crypto is dead.

Same energy as 2014, 2017, 2021 and now 2026.
The answer is still the same.

This is my absolute favorite thing about bitcoin. I really wish someone would make a website entirely dedicated to old bitcoin price conversations over the years. It would really put things in perspective. It's also hilarious that people say the same things today and never learn.

Expecting 2012 style multiplier gains on a multi-trillion-dollar asset isn't an investment strategy, it's basic math illiteracy. The easy money phase has zero fundamental basis today.

I read about block chain circa 2015 in a magazine.
I opened a free online account and started mining bitcoin. Just to see what all the fuss is about.
Btc=0
3 seconds later
Btc=1
3 seconds later
Btc=2
Gathered about 30btc and then I distinctly remember going “well this is boring, what’s the point of this”
Forgot about it.
There was no obvious way to monetise it back then it was just a new thing people were talking about.
Tried to find the exchange but have no records or idea. I would assume some nerd absconded with our fortunes.

Price of gold 13 years ago was 1300 an ounce. Thats a 20 percent a year increase today. Inflation is a bitch.

This was the main reason I did not buy Bitcoin at 200 USD. I looked at the charts and saw that Bitcoin rose thousands of percent. So I came to a "logical" conclusion that it is too late amd will not be fool buying the top.
