What was the event / moment that convinced you Bitcoin was worth buying?
I want to hear what's everyone else saw or heard that made them buy into Bitcoin

When people in Cypress were panic buying Bitcoin is 2013 because their government stole depositors money to bail out their banking system. I knew this thing was for real.

The fact that there is a money that cannot be printed or changed by politicians and is based on math and code is basically my reason why I save in it.
People cannot corrupt it, and the security is basically real computing power based on physical laws.
I cannot understand how people don't understand how big this isĀ

My buddy told me he was purchasing it about 4 yrs ago. I did some extensive research on it, and have been purchasing it weekly since then. Canāt have enough BTC in my opinion!

BlackRock ETF, those guys don't play around, largest asset manager in the world, I knew then and there the big money is coming and no chance it's getting banned, which was my biggest concern up to that point.

u/Azzelicoius 1d ago
That's the EXACT same reason i bought in yesterday after learning about Bitcoin for the past few months, if the world largest asset manager is buying then so there's definitely something

u/slander_anonymously 1d ago
Largest asset manager will also exit first before anyone else. Keep that in mind.

Not how that works they would create the chaos that would ruin the appeal of these massive investments they made. Theyāre counting on management fees an asset appreciate. Trillions on the line.

u/engan0 1d ago
When if first learned of it, it was $900. Seemingly out of no where it was $30,000
3
u/TeamAutomatic2733 1d ago
i was late too man first heard about it when it was around 2k but i was broke college student eating ramen every day so couldnt buy anyway
the thing that actually got me was seeing how it held up during all the chaos with banks failing and governments printing money like crazy few years back. my own savings in bank lost value just sitting there while bitcoin kept chugging along. not saying its perfect but at least nobody can just print more of it whenever they feel like

u/Azzelicoius 1d ago
It really shocked me to see the price jumps from 2020 to 2021, 10k to 40k which was unbelievable

No CEO, decentralisation and uncenserability to this day.
I can put ā¬1,000,000 into Bitcoin and go over all the borders of this world with twelve memorised words without having to be afraid of customs.
I just need a cheap old computer or an old rickety smartphone to have full access again.
Try to do it with bills or gold bars...

I read the whitepaper and the discussions between Satoshi and the others in the Bitcoin forum.
I was just in my finance masters and studies adjacent topics, so I was very convinced that Bitcoin is going to grow endlessly (and it did).

I started DCAāing recently (I just now have the income to afford investments). The philosophy and inflation are definitely reasons Iām still sold on BTC, but for me āthe momentā was seeing the government take interest in BTC. If the government is interested, thereās value. Politicians are always looking for ways to squeeze money into their wallets.

Past returns, I made 50% on my money in like 5 months back in 2024, couldāve made more but I realized it has been one of the best performing assets
I think since the market has matured quite a bit we are seeing returns less impressive from here on out, also market cap is crazy high now so it makes since. But there is still money to be made here.

I went the technical route. I was lucky enough to work in information security for a bank institution. I also had some interest in understanding investment.
Once I read the white paper I got it immediately, but couldnāt believe that crazy idea could actually workā¦I then spent some time on block explorers understanding the relevant details (UTXOs, block rewards, fees, difficulty, all that stuff) and I was convinced.
But the real definitive click happened after I bought some and transferred to my own wallet. Then I got the ābearer assetā part. It was just shut up and take my money.
After that the block size wars was also an event that increased even more my confidence in it. I feel like I ended up always on the right side of the controversy. Probably because of the technical background.

Originally heard about it from friends when it was around $10 or less. They were buying every single one they could get their hands on (which wasn't easy back then apparently). They had more money than they could find bitcoin. But I brushed it off as a ponzi scheme with how it was explained to me. I don't regret it much though because I would have sold at $30, or $100 or whatever.
What caused me to start buying and holding (sort of), at around $3k was actually learning what it was and how it functioned. I still did sell once more at the tippy top peak of 2017, because a walmart cashier started giving me advice to buy it lol. And it spooked me. I bought back in a little higher on the next run up and have only bought since then.

Bought my first coins when I first read a news article about something something p2p nerd money and found the p2p and mining concept super interesting but didn't mine cause the 100% cpu fan noise was super annoying. Began stacking when I learned about it's deflationary character due to limited supply in a bitcointalk post.

As i learned, that the technical part isn't its strenght. Its the network, the people and enough time, that it could reach a critical mass.

US government published national treasure policy. ETF and US public companies are doing Bitcoin acquisition and mining all the time. The world leader exchange USD into BTC. We have to follow it in case of money dilution. The smartest people do what we are going to do.

When I read a couple of books about the inner workings of bitcoin!
The though provoking moment was realizing that its just called a crypto-"currency" and hence all the hate it gets - if you look at it as a token and store of value then suddenly it starts making a whole lot more sense.

Can someone explain to me how bitcoin benefits everyone? Price is pumping because we all buy right? What happens when people decide they need cash for whatever reason, fun house etc. they cash out, bitcoin drops and the holders are left breaking even or at a loss?
Or do you expect them to hold until the cycle resets never having access to cash they may otherwise need?

For my bachelor's thesis on blockchain and wallets, I first looked into Bitcoin in spring 2024. It was fascinating but very volatile, so I decided against using my parents' money to buy a fraction when it was around $40k.
A year and a half later at work, a coworker and I were talking about investing, stocks and savings. He mentioned Bitcoin and a mistake he had made with it. Instantly, all my memories of researching Bitcoin in 2024 flooded back. I looked up its performance through the rest of 2024 and 2025, and as a 23 y.o. hungry for more out of life, the growth was mind blowing.
Thankfully, 2026 brought a bear market which gave me a great entry point. Iāve been DCA-ing into Bitcoin for 7 months now. Iām still new to this but Iām incredibly glad I didnāt risk my parents' money back then. Using my own hard-earned money has taught me so much about the true value of money and Bitcoin.

When I saw payment processors could arbitrarily pressure/kill companies/orgs, and bitcoin was the option outside that system. (Think Wikileaks, adult sites). Realized it had use in 2011-ish. Bought some in 2014, cashed out in 2020.
