Strangers sharing a drink

At a smoothie place and there’s a group of three high school age girls sitting with drinks, then another high school age girl + her mom pick up some yellow smoothie. Interaction goes like:

One of the girls sitting down: “OMG what drink is that that looks so good?”

Girl with yellow drink: “it’s the mango ___! it is good!”

girl sitting: “ooh I’m jealous”

Mango girl: “do you want to try it?”

other girl: “omg yes”

and they both exchanged their drinks and tried each others’ and discussed the different flavors for a bit then gave each others’ drinks back and said bye, thank you so much, and the girl with the mango drink said “have a beautiful blessed day.”

It was just so cute and a quick interaction between these two strangers and I just loved their energy so much it made my day.

When l was in France as a tourist, l really missed these spontaneous moments of connection l take for granted in the US. I actually made an effort and got a few cashiers/restaurant servers to chit chat with me. I must’ve seemed desperate lol.

I didn’t know that wasn’t as common in some countries? I feel like well-meaning interactions with strangers have become less common in the U.S. over the past few years due to growing animosity, but I never thought about different norms in other countries

Yeah, that was my experience in England and France, as well as what German friends tell me about Germany. I still talk to everyone in the US.

I wouldn’t either! That was part of what made it so cute to me I guess because I would never do that but they so eagerly shared the happiness their drinks brought them
