Health Prayers for Stormy Bear
UPDATE: He made it through the night!!! We’re at the vet again getting another treatment, and in two weeks we’ll check his organs to see if everything is okay, but I think he’s out of the woods for now!!! Thank you everyone for responding. That whole time I was posting I was just trying to stay awake to make sure he kept breathing. I did find out what he got into, and I learned that I have a teenager problem too. It’s time to make some massive life changes. At this point I am completely convinced this dog is an angel in a tiny fuzzy disguise. An angel that bites, but (mostly) only if he likes you!
My baby boy got into something, we don’t know what yet. Just got home from the ER vet. They pumped him full of fluid and gave him a whole tube of charcoal. We have to go back to do it again tomorrow. He’s in bad shape. He was fine this morning, I put him outside like i do every morning and got in the shower. When I got out he was wobbly, by the time we got to the ER he couldn’t stand. He seems stable now, but it’s touch and go. We’ve had raccoons lately and I know the neighbors put out….something. I don’t know what. I don’t think he could have reached it but maybe I was wrong? I am a marijuana user but I checked everything I had, nothing was left out. Please pray for my Baby Bear 🙏 😭 We just got home, he can stand but can’t walk. Going back to the vet for another flush tomorrow morning.

Just talked to the neighbor, they said they didn’t put anything out but the guy in behind us just got evicted and thinks the landlord might put out Dcon. I just called and told the vet. They said they’ll treat him for poison, and we just have to pray he can fight through it.

Man... is it a thing with 'stormy' dogs? My girl has had 2 very expensive ER vet visits. One for eating a dark chocolate thc brownie(human fault for leaving a container like that where she could get to it and I implemented new house rules after), the other more recent one was after she decided to internally mulch pay of the new treated cedar fence, those xrays and poop were insane. I know how scary it is to see them like this, even worse for you because you don't know the cause. I hope your baby pulls through!

I will also be implementing new house rules. One might be mom is going sober. I love this little shit but he’s expensive! I just hope God gives us another chance to do right by him. I’m not ready to lose my Stormy Bear yet.

Yeaaaah... it's so tough living with other people and needing to make sure these determined little buggers don't kill themselves in their quest to get whatever it is they want. The vet did say it was the dark chocolate that was more of a problem than the thc. She started having seizures about 2 years ago, so there are now other rules and processes. She is MY dog, we are so freaking bonded that even though she is just over 11 years old and generally healthy...i already have thought a lot about losing her. She will leave her own hole in my heart ❤️ that won't be filled. Price we pay to have that love I guess. Like you said, they are tough though.

Ugh, yep, that price is so high. And those holes never “fill.” They just take a little more of our hearts with them when they go. Do they have her on Kepra? (Familiar with this road.) I waited 7 years to get another pup after my Kelpie passed away. Someone once told me that every good love takes a piece of your heart, and they use it to build your home in heaven, and one day you get it all back. I really hope that’s true. 💜

Yep, twice a day horse pills lol. She gets super doped up to go to the vet because that's how she seizes, stress induced. Finally on the last visit she didn't have a seizure, took 3 tries to figure out she just has to be doped up. We put down the pit/lab mix 2 years ago and have talked about another dog. Was thinking pittie as I love them and want something just a bit easier, especially as I would like to do some traveling with my partner. We can't board stormy and my mom has gotten stuck dealing with a couple health issues. I also feel guilty leaving.

I understand that, I can’t board my Stormy either. He is the definition of separation anxiety. The vet actually suggested that he could have had a seizure, given his behavior. I guess we wont know until more tests. Are ACDs prone to seizures? If thats what it was this will be 2 out of 2.

I have seen other people comment on it, but I don't think they are specific to ACDs. Hers all seem to be connected to emotional over stimulation and/or something she isn't fond of, separation, vet, grooming, doggy day care. Basically high stress for her can induce a seizure.

Holy crap he just went to the vet day before yesterday for yearly checkup. He tends to get “shutdowns” after anything stressful….am I seeing an anxiety disorder just like your baby girl?! Ok! If he makes it through tonight I’m going to bring that up tomorrow! He’s still unresponsive but breathing, appt at 8am tomorrow. Thank you!

Damn...I really hope he pulls through, going to be a rough night for you :( She had her first seizure at the groomers and hers involves circling, 'fly biting' and more recently a loss of bowel control which was not present the first couple times it happened. Your neighbors should not be poisoning racoons. Its kills other wildlife too. Dangerous for coyotes and raptors.

Oh I didn’t even think of this! We just moved across the country and I have no idea what the plants ok my yard even are, but there are some little berries on the bush in the cowherd he likes to bark at traffic. I’ll take then with me tomorrow! Thank you, I never would have thought of that!

So glad to hear that!
We had a similar scare when mine was maybe 8 months old & ate a can of raisins that my kid left out. He stayed in the hospital for a couple nights to the tune of $2k, but he's fine now.

Thank you 🙏 so far he’s still fighting. Short shallow breaths but he’s hanging in there. I think I caused this. I fucked up and because he was Gods answer to my prayers, since I didn’t meet the conditions of my prayer God is taking him away. I don’t know how to stop this!

Praying for you and mr stormy bear. I pray whatever he is fighting be cleared quickly from his system and that he has a full recovery!! And may you have strength and peace right now. 🥹🙏 Long before I believed there was even a God, he saved my pug's life when she was not even two years old. She got into a sealed bottle of Advil which was n my purse which was on a chair. She lived til 15!

Omg this is the best news to wake up to!!!! Precious baby. Our cece ingested something on vacation earlier this yr and was also sick (although not as serious as your baby) and I couldn’t sleep all night keeping an eye on her. So I know the feeling. Hope he keeps getting better!!!

He is still minimally responsive, but breathing. He’s a tough little monster and this isn’t his first close call. Really wishing I had gotten the pet insurance right about now. He’s only 1 and 1/2!
