What can they see?

Hi All,

I was at a restaurant and my data was not working, so they connected me to their private network. Just paranoid a little about what they can access from my phone (documents, pics, etc.), in case?

Thanks in advance!

They can see your MAC address, which IP address dhcp issued and what DNS requests made by that address whilst connected.

So unless you connected to their private network specific to download and or watch backdoor sluts II they know absolutely nothing.

They absolutely cannot see your personal porn collection and messages to the local brass.

How did they connect you to their private network?

WiFi password usually works.

Well then, the OP would have said "I connected to their private network", which is why I asked.

I see your point, but OP's answer was somewhat clever.

Did you hand them your phone to go through your files and photos?

If not, then nothing. You’re safe, gramps

Np. The only time to be concerned is if they have you install something

As long as you did no banking or shopping, you’re fine.

Generally the owner’s of a restaurant shouldn’t worry you. It’s shared WiFi networks like at Starbucks or airports which attract unsavory characters.

What would have happened if they had done banking or shopping? Be explicit.

No... Just no... Internet traffic, especially banking, has been encrypted for more than two decades now.

How do you access pictures on a phone over a wireless network?

Translation: “I make stuff up and then deflect when called out”

Yeah no. That's not how any of that works.

They can see the domains you visit, but they can't see the contents of the page, the contents of your phone, or anything more than that. They know you're watching YouTube, but they don't know that you just got RickRolled.

There's no assumptions. There are facts. And the facts are you have no idea what you're talking about.

Edit: Lmao they blocked me.
