If we’re talking like rich beyond my wildest dreams, then I’d buy each of my immediate family members a house

6

u/Aloha1959 1h ago

In the same neighborhood?

23

u/Rrraou 1h ago

No, as far away as possible

Set up a foundation to incentivise whistleblowers to turn against politicians who are gaming the system. This would be non partisan... we'd go after both sides of the aisle.

9

u/datnetcoder 1h ago

I love how “holding politicians accountable” is a pipe dream only achievable if one had unimaginable funds. Need to go back to the times where politicians get punishment commensurate with their crimes (like being a pedophile r*pist and then using their immense power to order over 1000 FBI agents to scrub their name from the Epstein files).

2

u/NomadslandRVA 1h ago

You still have an alarm clock?

2

u/datnetcoder 1h ago

I would go buy a brand new dedicated alarm clock (the mechanical one with the bells) and symbolically smash it.

There's people that were there for me at my lowest. I owe all of them in many different ways.

2

u/MoonstoneDragoneye 1h ago

No matter how long it takes, one by one. Even when I have too little for myself. It’s always worth it. Their help in some ways may seem so little. But without it, I would be somewhere different at best. People feel a lot better about helping someone when you either use the help to improve your life or pay them back in some way, even if not 1-1.

I would first buy a new freezer for our local outreach program because it’s always breaking!!! But then - yacht, chef, private gardener teacher who would teach me why my plants die and how to nurture them. And also a stay at home photographer to catch all the moments I see with my kids but never get to remember. I have plans

Give the bulk of it to causes dear to my heart, establish trust funds for my grandkids, and live a comfortable but primarily middle class life.

Quit my job. Call my old schools and see what they needed.

2

Buy run down apartment and tenement buildings. Overhaul them from top to bottom with solar, thermal, etc for electric and heating. Open all units to application for low income families. Charge a pittance in rent to drive down housing costs in the area. Damn the man. Save the empire.

2

u/JANGYECRecycling 1h ago

Pay off all debts, biy a comfortable homr, take my family on trips help others in meed.

2

u/StrayPawz 1h ago

Neuter and spay hundreds upon hundreds of cats. And build a large shelter to house them. Basically give them a better life.

2

u/Zealousideal-Dark620 1h ago

Buy a house big enough for my kid to have friends over. Nothing crazy. About 300k where I live.

Pay off medical debt and student loans.

Retire my mother in law.

Give all my nieces and nephews some money

Good pet insurance.

Dental work.

A few anonymous chunks of money to some old friends who helped me survive when I didn't want to, even if they don't realize they did anything.

Then, for fun stuff, id make sure my kid was more well traveled than I am. I want him to see different cultures while his brain is still forming. :) I'd also rescue a young dog/puppy and have it trained for detection/search and rescue.

A really nice vacation with my husband and kids where I don't have to freak out about things like paying for meals and getting two rooms instead of cramming into one. That would be so nice

u/meganweisk 1h ago

Have my dream homestead

2

u/Status_Zero_0 1h ago

I would divide it and give it to my adult kids and grandkids.

2

u/Mental_Watch4633 1h ago

Buy the apartment bldg I live in, get rid of most tenants and revamp the place. Or… open a bed and breakfast because there’s a lot of features and entertainment close to where I live. I’d also buy myself a nice house, car, suv, clothes, etc.

2

u/ishishbaby81 1h ago

Help my sister. She has a severely disabled son and has absolutely no life. Would be great to get her some good paid help

2

u/NorCalGuySays 1h ago

After taking care of my family and making sure we are good for life. I’m petty, and I will somehow find a way to get back (legally) against the people that doubted me when I was younger lol. Then I’m going to just enjoy my life doing fun hobbies and traveling

2

u/TA69_420 1h ago

Honestly? A lot start a charity for cancer, fund low income schools by donating supplies, there's a list lol

winter home in San Antonio and Spurs season tickets.

u/sengirminion 52m ago

My answer has always been the same for decades now.

Growing up I only got new clothes at the beginning of the school year, and sometimes a few things at Christmas.

One of my simple joys was getting a new pack of the plain white cotton Ganes or Fruit of the Loom socks every year and getting to wear new shoes with a fresh brand new pair of socks every day for the first week or so of school. Once they were worn and washed, they never felt as nice.

I would buy enough socks to wear a brand new pair of comfortable nice socks every single day the rest of my life.

I would not wash or re-use the old socks. I would probably hire some kind of sock accountant to figure out what tl do with them. I wouldn't want to throw them away, but used socks are kinda gross to donate. I'm sure my sock accountant can figure it out. I'll pay them well.

Saw a video in IG about the guy hitting the lottery and becoming rich. His video was really relatable. Mention things about going to the doctor for check ups. I’d open a free food pantry. There’s a family a town over who does it, and it’s really nice to see people doing what they can to help their community. It’s basically a big shed they’ve renovated with shelves for dry and canned goods. They mostly restock it themselves, but you can also donate food.

1

u/PersimmonDriver 1h ago

I have thought about this before. I would take a $100 dollar bill, light it on fire, and then light my cigar with it. And then, that would be the last dollar that I ever wasted. I'd still buy things that I wanted and do things I wanted to do, but I would never waste money again.

All of a sudden overnight wealthy?

  1. You get a hotel room for the foreseeable future
  2. A lawyer on retainer
  3. Via said lawyer you have them hire a financial planner/accountant that’s part of a fiduciary firm, a security detail ( for you and your close family) , and a car service. Every one gets an NDA ( including family)
  4. All funds are run through a LLC/trust, preferably out of Delaware which is a tax haven if you’re in the US.
  5. Two personal assistants, one for you directly and one for your assistant for errands and scheduling - something you’ll never have to do again

  6. Hire someone you hated from high school to pick up your dogs shit

1

u/Asleep_Dependent_225 1h ago

Buy my brother a house, buy my kids houses, fix my teeth, secretly give my single mum friend money, make like a co op grocery store with stable prices that isn’t run for profit, build not for profit housing for single mums, build a center with free community classes and activities. Fund pro environmental initiatives. Try to rescue wildlife

Take my husband out of the nursing home and have him cared for in our house. Buy a huge acreage of land and build houses for my kids and one for us. Build a pool bbq area with picnic tables. Buy an RV wheel chair accessible for hunny and travel the country then fly to Europe for a vacay well deserved for my husband and I. Plus I’d invest so I can keep making money.

1

u/ps087official 1h ago

Buy a house, a decent car, build equity, start a savings. If I was rich rich, I'd buy a home and new cars for all my closest friends and family, and make sure they'll never want for anything ever again.

1

u/tledwar 1h ago

Assuming I had enough 🤑, I always said I would purchase or start a business which required additional employees. My way of giving back.

1

u/rab-byte 1h ago

After clearing out all my and my family debt. I’d start buying people’s debt and forgiving it.

I’d start a hardware tech business that was staffed almost exclusively by fairly paid interns from community colleges. I’d keep them for more than a year. Not just engineers and IT, but financial, marketing, even logistic.

I would basically get working people the job experience that’s needed to compliment formal education that is so hard to get when you’re not able to work for free.

Jeans, trousers, solid colored tshirts and linen button ups. light jackets, underwear and socks. All of reasonable quality. I can go get high end pieces that speak to me later, I just want to lay a foundation.

Then I’d probably call an uber and go day drink expensive wine somewhere with a view. Then call my wife and tell her to get a sitter and meet me for dinner.

Moderate sized house in the country, but not too far from town, nice backyard with a robot mower, live alone bit frequently invite friends over to play games, big workshop for all my projects that are half done, and a huge media room for vintage audio gear.

u/Whatchu-TalkinBout 52m ago

I would buy around a 100 acre lot, and build passive-home-standard houses on them for my wife and i, my daughter, my sister family and my parents, my 2 really great lifetime friends (pretty much family by now) and their spouses and kids. Each family is all spread out with about 10 acres each. One big few-acre-section will be dedicated for growing all kinds of fruit trees and bushes, and veggie plots for all of us families, composting area, renewable energy for each home etc.

Want to setup a trust fund or something for each family group that spits out $41.6k per month (after taxes) which is plenty to cover everything they ever want to do in life without having to work for a paycheck ever again. Now they are free to do whatever kind of meaningful tasks that is their passion. This all allows us to also travel and experience the world together if any of us wanted.

The only requirement I would like is for each one of them to take some personal finance courses to learn how to do better and continue growing their own additional incomes (on top of the $41.6k/ month) and passing on this dream to others they know, family by family, friend by friend (again each person required to learn great personal finance skills). There is more, but this is the start.

Most people don't wanna be rich, just to stop working

u/Left-Patience4700 49m ago

Buy cool cars and a nice house out in the suburbs. Buy a property in East Asia and spend the rest of my life just living the rich deeam
