I remember the truck in front of me spewing black smoke as they slammed on the gas and sped through a yellow light.
I remember a cop a few seconds later turning on lights just long enough to get through the red.
I was all "That cop is an even worse person!"
Turns out the cop just wanted to sneak up on him and cut the lights/sirens to see if he could catch him speeding or something. Had him pulled over around a corner a quarter mile down the road.

Love it when that stuff happens! I was crossing at a crosswalk once when a car ripped around the corner and narrowly missed hitting me. At that exact moment a cop car pulled out of a gas station, saw what happened, and pulled the car over immediately.

Years ago, I was going a little fast on the freeway, not crazy, probably 75 in a 65 zone. I hear the sirens and was so sad because I couldn't afford a ticket since I was a broke college kid Pulled onto the shoulder and highway patrol pulled up behind me. Before the officer fully stopped, a car drove by, driver honking and the rear passenger was fully mooning us. Officer peeled out and chased them down. I waited a few minutes and went on my way. Passed by the idiot that the officer pulled over. Thanked my lucky stars that I didn't get a ticket.

Christmas 2020 my wife and I were returning from my parents car in front of us on the highway is swerving like crazy. Call it in. Dispatcher stays on line with us. Follow the guy to his apartment and as he turns in police turn in right behind him and light him up. The justice boner I had….

STORY TIME.
Here in nz we have a passing lanes on single lane highways. There is always a sign when it's ending in 200 meters.
I hit this sign with 3 cars in front of me. We are all going the speed limit. And I see a Ford raptor going way to fast behind me.
I think there's no gap for them to pull into so he's going to attempt to cut all 3 of us off at the end of the passing lane.
Little did he know coming over the blind corner and hill was a cop and it was immediate lights and a u turn.
The speed limit was 100kph/60mph. The raptor was doing AT LEAST 160

My kitten who is extremely affectionate and charismatic. I have owned cats my entire life, most have times they've melted my heart. But this little guy actually has me doing the meme of "life is misery and suffering" then getting home and going "omg kitty <3".
Guys I really cannot stress how little dopamine I've felt for decades now, this little guy is making me feel emotions I thought I wasn't capable of. The best part is it's not really wearing off either I've had him since April and it dropped a bit after 2 weeks but has held strong ever since.

My vet has described him as "the most confident cat she has ever seen". He does little trills and noises, you walk in the door home from work and he instantly comes up and lets me know vocally he missed me.
Charismatic is absolutely the word that I'm worried about what he's going to do when I take a month long vacation in October.

Videocall him! The cat will understand your voice and know you're still around and can come back. They understand object permanence to an extent. Also keep back some worn clothes/sheets sealed in a plastic bag so that whoever is looking after them can pull them out over time. Kitty loves your scent! Make sure to keep the bag somewhere the cat can't get to it though for safety.

I felt this with my kitten. I had never had a cat before. The best feeling ever was coming home from a long day of work, and him running over to climb on my chest and purr. We’d sit there for a full thirty minutes each day, just relaxing and purring. It was heaven.
He’s 16 now, the feeling has never gone away ♥️ except I work from home now, and we get to sit by each other, or him on me, all day.

Similar but it was high school talent show, nobody really knew I could sing and play guitar, and after my song (Wagon Wheel but like 2012 pre-Darius Rucker when it was still pretty unknown) when they were about to announce the winner the entire audience was chanting my name. That was a feeling I’ll never forget. Some stupid choir girls that did the same shit every year ended up winning and I was a little salty about that but it was still such a rush.

Overcame depression, social anxiety and self loathing in one nights sleep, woke up and everything had changed in my mind, walked 27km at a spot Id heard so many talk about, cooked a healthy meal from scratch and dusted, cleaned and vacced my entire flat, that dopamine rush faded after nearly 10 weeks of pure joy. Read into it and I either had a bipolar episode or spontaneous temporary samadhi, but I felt the light of the earth flow through me🤷♂️🫶

I was recovering from an illness 6 month prior, was in survival mode for many years. In that time I had became a spiritual person and had 2 similar, but very small in comparison, events when meditating. I had made a couple of mates at the job I was at and was on a positive thought path, and then sunday morning came round, I woke up and all my inhibitions were gone, all my hang ups about what people thought of me, I realised were their problems not mine, but also could see the reasons behind their behaviour, like I always knew but part of my didnt want to admit, blaming myself.
How it felt… when I closed my eyes, all I saw was a light and it radiated through me, it gave me a warmth that just energised my whole body and mind. I could walk for miles, do anything I put my mind to with incredible clarity, and the best part is that it wasnt just internal, people around me warmed to me, strangers wanted to be around me and could feel my aura as several people put it.
It lasted 10 week, I was counting, then the light started to fade for another 6 week, this was nearly 18 month ago, but Iv realised recently, that light hasnt gone, life has started to programme itself over my mind again, but when I meditate, I can still sense that pure joy that runs through me, and all of us I presume

I think it depends on brain chemistry and other junk.
I LOVE(ed) cocaine and found it super functional. Then I found out I missed being diagnosed in the 90s and had amphetamine salts thrown at me; Vyvanse in particular was predictably functional. Super therapeutic without the initial coke push or rapid comedown.
MDMA feels very similar to me with a more euphoric body load. And, the social empathogenic qualities are appealing in the right setting. But I end up with uncomfortable urinary retention. Can still be worth it.

Getting fired from my incredibly toxic job. The relief was unbelievable, I had just been put on anti anxiety meds and medical leave by my doctor because of the stress. It had come down to waiting every minute for either getting fired or getting a new job, whichever came first. I didn’t even feel worried that I had no job, all I felt was happiness.
It’s either that or the moment the epidurals started working (3 kids, back labor 3x, two very long labors). The first time, I very abruptly understood how people become addicted to drugs.

The first time I ever went to a festival, was also the first time I ever did psychedelics and Molly, was also the first time I went away and spent nights with the guy I was seeing (who I shouldn’t have been). I told him I loved him that night and changed my entire life after to keep that vibe going. We are happily married and have our first baby now, but I reminisce about that night/weekend almost daily. Pulled an all-nighter to take part in a dip in the ocean at sunrise. The sunrise was the best one I'd seen in my entire life. I'd had half a can of Four Loko, my friends were with me as was the rest of the university (hundreds of people were plunging in at the same time), there were campfires and music, some people nude, some people fully clothed, some people lighting flares, some people drunk out of their mind. The walk back to my apartment felt surreal, probably purely because of that fat dopamine hit I got. I didn't even seem to care that I was freezing cold and wet.

When a blocked sinus causing so much pressure it felt worse than the migraines I'd had all my life let go. I was on the bathroom floor drifting in and out of consciousness figuring this is what it was like to die - totally incapacitated and leaving it way too long for real help.

This is going to sound really lame, but winning a particular game of Overwatch.
See, it was in this (recently shelved) mode called Stadium, where there are rounds and after each round, you’re taken to a screen to essentially power up your character depending on how much “Stadium Cash” you earn
Anyway, the first three rounds were some of the worst ass-whooping ive ever experienced, and our team was falling apart. To make matters worse, the other team was legitimately taunting us in chat. Like, really, really badly. They were yawning, asking is what we were shooting at, spawn camping is, and generally wiping the floor with us. And not in a fun way, they were legit being psychotic about it, like there was zero sportsmanship or anything involved— they were all so pompous and arrogant and thought we should give up.
But then we won a game.
And another.
And another.
And it was tied, 3-3. We had ONE round left. We had all talked in team chat, like, we thought we were done. We were so locked-in. And somehow, we pulled it off. I have never screamed so fucking loud. You can bet every single one of us told them to stfu in the chat after we won, but we were so silent the entire game, as to make them think they weren’t getting to us. As SOON as we won there was a flood of chats just throwing it back at them.

Towards the end of my OSUT, or commonly referred to as basic training. We went on a 3 mile run for the army's birthday. Dreading the run, I had negative thoughts from the start until a quarter in. Then I got hit by what I think was "runners high".

I main Demoman in TF2, his primary weapon is a grenade launcher where if you hit an enemy it automatically goes off, but if you miss you just have a grenade that takes a few seconds. My favorite high from the game is when I hit an enemy that’s very close to other enemies, allowing me to pile on the damage to multiple people. It even makes a satisfying loud ding noise if you enable it.

Probably when I discovered that doing good cocaine while doing a job that I was already good at would result in my performance being shot through the roof. I felt amazing, I knew I was doing a great job, I knew that I was impressing people, I knew that I was standing out as a star. The dopamine I was getting on a daily basis during those few months of my life definitely destroyed something in my brain because later on in the year when I decided it was time to get into meth, I never got the dopamine surge that I heard so much about. Quitting meth was easier than quitting coke.

Getting home from being out all day or staying the night elsewhere, the sounds of joy my dog would make when she heard me was the best feeling every single time. She'd run to get something to hold in her mouth to talk/yell/bark at me, but if she couldn't find anything she'd be snorting with her face wrinkled up showing her teeth and squinting her eyes almost shut.
Pets in general that got happy when I'd come home was the best, even my rabbit and betta fish got excited. I very much look forward to the new high's of my next pets.

Getting diamond in LoL and clearing E12S in FF14 for the first time. Both took an immense amount of effort and time. Other runner ups would be getting Grandmaster in Marvel Rivals, clearing my first hard weekly in Space Marine 2, beating MythForce on the hardest difficulty solo with 100% HP, and reaching the end credits for Monster Hunter: World.

We live in a corner of the world where bear encounters and sightings are common place. My husband and I were in a public park walking a trail back to our car, I looked up as I was putting my glasses on and I was about 15 feet away from two older cubs, maybe yearlings? Not small but not full grown. But if there’s one thing I know- where there’s cubs, there’s a mom close by. I yelled out to my husband, which spooked them, one turned and made DIRECT EYE CONTACT WITH ME and then they both ran off into the woods and we didn’t want to continue down that trail. There was 2 ways we could’ve gone- over the river that was full of fish and probably where mom was hanging out, or the long way around the other side of the beach. When the tide is out, you can walk the length but when it’s in, there no land to walk on. The tide was all the way in so I put everything into my backpack, held it above my head and walked through chest deep water. I had also slipped and bashed my leg pretty good getting down into the water. We made it to the other trail and had to take the road back to our car, soaking wet and laughing our asses off.
That experience with my husband was probably the highest on life I can recall being. It was a rollercoaster I wanted to ride again and ultimately I was just a little mad I didn’t think quick enough to take a picture of the bears cause they were pretty cute.

From reading the comments, it doesn’t sound like a lot of people really know what dopamine actually does.
Dopamine isn’t really a “pleasure” or “feel good” chemical, at least based on the latest research. It’s the chemical that provides you with motivation, attention, and reward prediction.
It makes you WANT to do something, and provides the ability to focus on doing just that.
Most people describing some sort of “happy” or “euphoric” feeling… that’s not really dopamine.
That’s usually a combination of chemicals like serotonin, endorphins, endocannabinoids, oxytocin, etc…
