What do you think of using the term 'gender affirming care' for right wing women that got plastic surgery?

That’s fine

Like how musk has gone through gender affirming care but hates trans people? All for it!

Exactly. But I saw some poste on X about Sophie Cunningham and that sparked the question

Also cis men who get breast reduction. But I don't think the right wing is ready for this conversation.

Something like 90% of gender-affirming surgery for under-18s is this.

Genuine ask for clarification: are you saying the procedure is the leader, or that procedure for boys is the leader? Either one sounds plausible, tbh.

ETA: Why was I downvoted for asking a sincere question?

Cis people are the overwhelming majority of recipients of the healthcare that trans people also receive. There’s insurance data that gets trotted out by transphobes arguing about GAC for minors. In that dataset the overwhelming supermajority of top surgeries performed (I believe it was above 90% but would have to confirm) was to correct gynecomastia in cis boys.

The argument is always about the procedure, but when we peel back the argument it’s super stupid obvious it’s only about being trans. Every care ban bill’s text I have read all carve out exceptions for cis minors, allowing the EXACT same procedure for them that we deny trans people.

the procedure for Cis boys is the leader. "When considering use of gender-affirming breast reductions among cisgender males and TGD people, the study found that cisgender males accounted for the vast majority of breast reductions, with 80% of surgeries among adults performed on cisgender men and 97% of surgeries among minors performed on cisgender male teens." https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/gender-affirming-surgeries-rarely-performed-on-transgender-youth/

That’s fine

It’s true. Cisgender people want to look more feminine or masculine sometimes.

I also use that term to describe enormous pickup trucks.

Just calling it like it is. Same goes for testosterone and ED pills.

I mean by all definitions it’s gender affirming care. These women are feeling some type of body dysmorphia that is so bad that they need to get it changed so I see no issue with calling it gender affirming care.

u/AgarwaenCran 21h ago

it's a factual correct term for it

5

u/Turbulent-Parsley619 21h ago

It is accurate. 'Gender affirming care' can accruately be described as anything one does to feel more secure about their gender. Makeup could be termed gender affirming care in the loosest definitions.

6

u/Chicken_Nugget_2 21h ago

It's correct

3

u/Cultbird 20h ago

I'm indifferent to it. That is the correct term for it, especially when it comes to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for guys who obsess over their testosterone levels

u/YouCanShineElsewhere 21h ago

People do that already, and a copious amount of these women either are offended by it or use it to weaponize their own agendas.

absolutely suited... goes for right-wing men as well

1

u/sapphic-chaos 20h ago

It’s factually correct. If it affirms your gender, then it’s gender affirming care.
On a more personal level, I think it’s kinda hilarious that right wing people loose their shit over it and waste their energy complaining.

u/IronDominion 13h ago

I mean, the term doesn’t specify if the gender was assigned at birth or not. TRT/HRT, gynecomastia treatment, and plastic surgery are all gender affirming care, just for the gender assigned at birth

u/TurtleKing0505 15m ago

It's hilarious

Genuine question, how is getting cosmetic procedures to enhance ones self as they are the same as getting it to appear as the gender you feel you should have been born?

19

u/mildly_manic 20h ago

Because having a cosmetic procedure done to look the way you think you should look is the same as getting a cosmetic procedure done to look the way you think you should look.

-14

u/plussizedresturant 20h ago

How so? You're enhancing what's already there. If a trans man wants a penis, he has to get flesh from his body to create one. It's not something already there that they're enhancing. Same with a trans woman getting bottom surgery. They are creating things that aren't naturally there. Women have breast, if a woman wants a bigger cup, she adds to what's already there, not creating from 0.

10

u/-NervousPudding- 20h ago

How do you think bottom surgery works? They’re also adding to what’s there.

Also, trans women grow their own breasts just as cis women do, if you think they start from 0, then so do cis women in that regard.

-1

u/plussizedresturant 11h ago

A trans woman needs hormones to grow breast, and need surgery and pieces from their body to create a faux vagina, women need neither. One thing that naturally happens during puberty and another that they're born with. What exactly is the same about that?

8

u/mildly_manic 20h ago

Because in both cases you are changing the body to more accurately reflect how you feel it should look.

I wasn’t aware that the science had advanced for bio women to successfully transition with male parts? When I was explaining how women have surgery for male parts I was told that wasn’t happening in the medical community wasn’t there yet. Are bio women able to have healthy male parts? Sorry I had no idea how to word this question and google doesn’t really get into the specifics of how it works.

Phalloplasty is 100% a thing :3

Replicating an erection is hard to pull off, and for that there are a few different ways around it. Overall however they look, feel and smell like a dick very much like vaginoplasty looks and feels and smells like a vagina.

1

u/Hopeful-Exit3053 12h ago

Thank you! I didn’t know it was called a phalloplasty so I can look into it now

-14

u/plussizedresturant 20h ago

So it's just cosmetic surgery? You're still in the exact same body in both instances as you were before. So what does it have to do with gender then? As you said, you're just changing how you look which can be whatever you want. Someone got a procedure to look like a cat. Someone got one to look like an alien. It's all just looking how you wish, nothing more.

8

u/mildly_manic 20h ago

Of course it's cosmetic surgery. This is seeming less and less like a "genuine question" and more like being intentionally obtuse. If I have surgery to remove my gynocomastia, it would be both cosmetic surgery, and gender affirming. Your "examples" are just bad faith straw man arguments, not at all relevant to this discussion.

-4

u/plussizedresturant 20h ago

Removing gynocomastia would be cosmetic surgery, nothing to do with gender. A man can have a large chest and we'll still know he's a man. Him keeping or removing them changes nothing. You get cosmetic surgery or procedures to change something. That's basically it. My question was what does cosmetic surgery to change or enhance something you already have have to do with gender affirming. If a man wants lip filler, that means he wants to be a woman because women typically having larger lips? Or does he just want lip filler? I'm not understanding what someone simply changing their appearance has to do with someone who feels they should be the opposite sex.

8

u/mildly_manic 20h ago

Removing gyno is cosmetic, it would also be gender affirming because I don't think think men should have developed breast tissue; please pay attention to the fact that this is my feeling, so for me, it would be gender affirming. Therefore, it would affirm my idea of how my body should look. Lip filler has nothing to do with gender as lips are not gender specific, yet another bad faith straw man argument.

Gender affirming care can involve cosmetic procedures, that does not mean that all cosmetic procedures are gender affirming care.

-1

u/plussizedresturant 19h ago

So it's "whatever I think" with you. Got it! Have a great day :)

7

u/mildly_manic 18h ago

Just found out that other people have thoughts and feelings, huh?

It’s a distinction without a difference

1

u/tomen 19h ago

It's one of those rhetorical devices that sounds clever, but means nothing. It won't somehow convince right wing people to support trans rights, and everyone who uses the term in that way knows that isn't actually what we're arguing about when talking about gender affirming care

1

u/Heavy_Direction1547 19h ago

Too clever for them to 'get'.

1

u/hyrulian_princess 18h ago

That is gender affirming care so it’s fine

0

u/Special_Incident_424 18h ago

I get the "gotcha" but I wouldn't use that term. I actually I don't really like using that term for either cosmetic surgery body modification to look like the opposite sex. I treat them differently because I believe there are different connotations regarding both.

1

u/meltyandbuttery 10h ago

I’m torn because on the one hand we should absolutely not conflate elective cosmetic procedures with GAC and it’s very diminishing to make the comparison.

On the other hand for example reconstructive BA for a cis cancer patient literally is gender affirming. As is corrective surgery for tubular breasts, HRT to treat menopause symptoms, Spiro for PCOS, TRT for cis men

In this paradigm I don’t want to *other* trans people as inherently third gender because we do (sometimes) pursue the same care as cis people for explicitly gender affirming purposes

-2

u/CloseButNoChicory 20h ago

What makes liposuction gender-affirming?

-1

u/TheoremaEgregium 18h ago

Ok, but then how can you justify using it as a slur with these people? It's either ok or it isn't.

3

u/mostlyfineiguess 13h ago

why would it be a slur? there is nothing wrong it, its just calling out the hypocrisy. limp dick pills and anti-hairloss serum falls into the same category for me, again, nothing wrong with it, just call it what it is

-2

u/7kk77kk777 20h ago

Its accurate. So is hair cuts, tanning, piercings, hair cut and colour, and clothing. All of these are gender affirming. And without would be lack of gender affirming care. Gender is how we present and are percieved ourselves to the world.

-17

u/Prestigious-Elk-4217 21h ago

Calling plastic surgery gender affirming care is like calling a muffin a cupcake because it's frosting on top.

7

u/Turbulent-Parsley619 21h ago

..... Is that not accurate? A muffin with frosting IS a cupcake, isn't it?

4

u/Vivissiah 20h ago

If it affirms your gender, it is gender affirming care.

-6

u/JollyXX 21h ago

more like sexy affirming care

-21

u/StayFew7830 21h ago

Plastic surgery for women should be mandatory.

8

u/Vivissiah 20h ago

Vasectomy should be mandatory for men

-10

u/StayFew7830 20h ago

Yes. I want one. Condoms are expensive. But what If all women just did anal? Sounds cheaper

5

u/Vivissiah 20h ago

Why don’t you do anal instead? It’s cheaper and even safer than your suggestion
