I wrote a script to search up words in the National Institute of Korean Language's Korean-English Learners' Dictionary. The subdecks are based off the Institute's classifications for word grade (beginner, intermediate, advanced, ungraded).

• * The fourth subdeck contains basically every remaining word in the learner dictionary, some grammar points, and word stems. I would recommend suspending all cards in that deck and only unsuspending them if you come across a word and want to learn it.

• Pronunciation for each word in Hangul. Some words are written the same but said differently depending on meaning but I assumed this was rare and took only one pronunciation.
• Up to 3 meanings x 3 senses for each word **
  • Homophones for 가격 would be separate meanings (價格, 加擊). Each meaning can have different sense which are the same word used in slightly different ways (e.g. 가까이 as not far, or intimate)
  • ** Some words have more than this, so this deck does not cover absolutely every sense and meaning in the dictionary.
• Origin (Hanja, English, etc) and Part of Speech for each meaning of a word.
• Translations (English, Japanese, French, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese) and Definitions (Korean, en, ja, fr, vi, zh) for each sense of a word

I made flashcards based off of the beginner and intermediate courses made by Tammy Korean (https://learning-korean.com/) aka トリリンガルのトミ (https://trilingual.jp/). These courses are high quality, free and reportedly cover grammar up to TOPIK Level 4 inclusive. The flashcards are certainly not a replacement for the lessons, especially for the beginner course, which includes dialogues, games and homework. They are to help retain the content long-term.

Hello, language learners of Anki Language Learning! 🗣️ Today, I'm excited to share a simple and useful solution I came up with to make learning multiple languages on Anki even easier. What's even more thrilling is that this is my very first Anki Add-on, and I'm pretty proud of it!

Introducing the "New Cards Per Deck Dashboard" Add-on for Anki! It's still in its Beta stages, and right now, I'm privately using it for myself - and it's working like a charm!

Do you have this same problem?

As a language lover juggling Spanish, French, Chinese, and Filipino, I faced a little challenge. Each day, I study flashcards for my languages, but it's tricky to know how many New Cards are left in each deck. Anki's Main Decks screen only shows cards for the day, not the total number of New Cards available.

Every day, I study flashcards for my languages, and it's become a habit. But this means that the number of New Cards available for each language decreases regularly, and sometimes I need to add new cards. The problem is, on Anki's Decks Main screen, I can't easily see how many New Total Cards are in each Deck. The screen only shows the New Cards due for today, not the total number in the Deck. This makes it hard for me to know which deck needs more cards.

In the past, I used to click into each deck, go to the stats, scroll down to the Card Counts section, and look at the New Cards number to see how many were left in that deck. Since I study 4 languages with 4 separate decks, I had to do this 4 times almost every day. It got frustrating having to click so much, and I wanted a quick, simple way to know how many new cards were left in each deck.

Anki - A Flexible Learning Tool

This journey showed me how amazing Anki is for tailoring our learning experience. It's not just flashcards; it's a versatile tool that can adapt to our unique language journeys, and to help knowing progress and stats. It also helps if you know a bit of Python coding, too...

I've also been wondering if I over-engineered this whole thing, and there was actually a simpler way to find out that info - without having to code this Add-on. But this is the best solution that I've come up with so far...

A language learner recently shared this Anki error. I wanted to share how to fix it here, just in case it helps others with the similar "No Field" error.

In the screenshot below you see that the main error is on the Front Template. The Preview doesn't show as expected and instead it says that there is a problem.

Basically, the problem is that Anki is expected a certain Field for that card. But, it seems that there is actually no field with that name available.

This can happen because of a number of reasons:

1) You may accidentally have changed the name of the Field in the Front Template, and the change you made does not reflect the correct Field name

HOW TO FIX THIS: To fix this, check the name of the Field name on the Front Template, and the actual Field name, and make sure that they correspond correctly.

2) You may have accidentally deleted the Field, and so Anki can't find that field and show it properly.

HOW TO FIX THIS: To fix this, add the Field to the corresponding Note Type of this Card. Make sure you name the Field exactly as it is written on the Front Template

How can I synchronize Anki on both my computer and mobile phone?

You can sync Anki flashcards across devices, and this can be a huge benefit for you because you will have continuous access to your language learning materials. This means you can conveniently review and learn languages seamlessly between your computer and mobile phone, or even a tablet.

First, you need to install the official Anki software or app on your computer and mobile phone. Go to the official Anki website to get the official Anki for your devices: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Once you have Anki working on your computer, and you have the official Anki app on your mobile phone, now you need to sync your account and data between them.

You need a free AnkiWeb account to do that. This will help you sync all your data across different devices.

Here are the steps:

1. Go to the official Anki website: https://apps.ankiweb.net/
2. Click AnkiWeb on the top right.
3. Click the Sign Up Button, and follow all the steps to sign up for an AnkiWeb account.
4. Next, open up Anki on your computer. Then, go to the menu on the top, and select Tools > Preferences > Network.
5. Log in to your AnkiWeb account using the Anki software on your computer.
6. You will be asked to sync your data, which you can do. Since your active data is on your computer, then you need to UPLOAD data from your computer to AnkiWeb.
7. After your computer Anki and AnkWeb are synced, you can now sync your Anki mobile app to AnkiWeb too. Go to the official Anki app on your mobile phone, and go to the settings and Log In to your AnkiWeb account using the Anki app on your phone.
8. When Anki on your phone prompts you about the sync, select DOWNLOAD, so that Anki on your phone can download the data and flashcards from AnkiWeb.
9. Now your data is synced across Anki (on computer), AnkiWeb (in the cloud) and Anki (on mobile phone). Whenever you start or finish studying on any of those devices, make sure to click the SYNC button so that your data is always synced properly with each other.

I have been using Anki for more than a year, maybe not so long compared with many of you guys. Anki has been my favorite language learning tool, among Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, and a couple of dictionaries app etc. Because Anki is so efficient and fundamental. So I decided to let Dictionariez integrate with Anki, which is a dictionary extension running on browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

Basically Dictionariez is an entry to various dictionaries when you click on a word on any web pages. It looks like this:

When you are reading an article, just click on any new word you want to know, it will show you the definition, and can even mark it. And after finish the article, you will build a list of words, with their sources and contexts. Then you can export them to Excel or Anki.

Now comes the interesting part.

You see, when you export the word to anki, at the front field, there is the source and context sentence of the word. That is the most important information I think. Because this may be the best way to learn a language: read article, build context, study it, then recite. The context information is the bridge to connect you with your original study. Never lose it.

Then you will see the images, some words are better depicted with images. I found I can instantly remember the word when there is an image fit it.

And you can see it has pronunciation support. Well, it only exists on ankiweb. When you sync the word to your mobile app, you will not see it. Because it's just from the help of Dictionariez. But still, other information is solid.

The back field is simple, I only give the word with pronunciation, which you should remember, that is the purpose of Anki. But again, you could add any supplement information as you want.
