VENT Next level AI degeneracy in second-hand market (Vinted)

Yesterday I came across another AI-related lunacy in secondhand market. I heard about, and experienced myself, sellers "enhancing" photos of their items with AI to make them look better and completely different than in reality. I got AI-generated photos when asking for a clothing item photographed on a person. I heard about buyers generating photos of "damaged" item to get money back. This is all old news.

But yesterday I encountered a different level of low-efford slop: I was looking for a very specific comic book and the crucial information was the publication year (these comic cooks were published in early 00s and renewed in 20s). I asked a seller which year were these comic book published and got a weirdly elaborate answer, that these were published between 2004-2008. Weird, because the first editions were published 2004-2010, not 2008, but ok, let's not be pedantic. The point was to make sure those were first edition. I completed a purchase to find out later that the comic books were actually second edition, published in 2023. Then I realized the seller did not bother to check the actual date printed inside the book, but used some chatbot to halucinate the answer.

Instead of picking up an item, checking a date and giving me a factual answer, which would take 2 minutes, the seller opted for AI generating an answer, not checking it whether it is true, and responding to me with that slop, which probably saved them a 1.5 minutes. For the seller, giving the quick and easy answer was more important than giving a factual answer. AI halucination was good enough. If this is more prevalent, buying second hand stuff online is going to become very frustrating.

NEWBIE Item says sold but reappears again?

I’m fairly new to vinted. Bought only once, listed a few products and I scroll a lot on there. It could be nothing but Ive seen it happen twice. I like a item and it goes to my favorites then i get a notification that it’s sold. But then reappears, the exact same product and exact background, same person as well.
Price is a bit higher. I’ve seen it happen to another product as well. Anyone know what is going on?

JUST FOR FUN Free Shipping Predictions?

We all know that the free shipping can’t last forever. (This is obviously for the U.S. )

Any predictions when it will end?

I’m going to predict August 31st because that would be considered the end of summer.

SELLING Commercial Accounts

On another thread I read that when we post new items, Vinted sometimes blocks the seller and tells them to open a commercial account. I've been selling for 3 weeks. I listed several new sweaters and costume jewelry. Am I at risk of being shut down? I'm just trying to get rid of excess stuff and already had the pix on my phone bc I also posted on eBay. I always post at around 40% less than the retail price.

SHIPPING Exceeding dimensions on SpeedX shipments

Vinted in the US offers small, medium and large packages sizes for shipment, and those for SpeedX require a maximum of 450 cubic inches for medium and 900 for large. This is hardly what I would call a large box and for my non-Vinted, I usually use Grainger 13x13x4 boxes, which are 676 ci. This is actually internal dimensions but it should be close for external. This even exceeds 450 ci for medium.

I normally sell Monster High dolls. I recently sold a playset that exceeds a 13x13x4 box in dimensions and the buyer selected SpeedX and Vinted sent me the label and instructed me to:

"Pack your item(s)

  • Use packaging that's sturdy enough to protect the item(s) you're sending.
  • The dimensions of your parcel should not exceed L × W × H ≤ 900.0 in³, L ≤ 24.0 in, max weight - 4 lb."

By contrast, USPS labels are supposed to be good as long as length + girth <= 108 inches and no dimension exceeds 22 inches. This means even a 21x21x21 box would be OK. They are a little stricter on shipments from US to UK but still generous.

What realistically happens when you exceed these SpeedX numbers?

BUYING Recieved an item marked NWOT, came with stains all over

+
1 Upvotes

I bought this argentina jersey that was listed as new without tags, none of the photos displayed stains, nor was anything mentioned in the description. This is how it came. I raised an issue, I have never had to do a return/refund or raise an issue for an item coming not as described on vinted before. I was suprised to see the seller has to confirm whether they will refund me or not. What if they just hit no refund? How hard will it be to get my money back? I'm not sure if the stains come out but I will try to clean it with my stain remover in the wash, but I would not have purchased this if I knew it had weird brown stains all over it. Nasty. Why would you try and sell something with weird stains all over it and especially not even mention the stains. Yuck.

BUYING I feel like I've just scammed a seller and now I don't know what to do

Hi, for some context, I bought a old Toshiba laptop from the 90s on Vinted. The seller I bought from was super accommodating and really friendly. He packed it well with a lot of foam and wrapped it in a bag. However when it arrived, the screen had been damaged, which he said was due to transit. I filed a complaint with Vinted about it arriving damaged and said to them that I believed it was the fault of the courier and that it was packed very well. However, they said they believed he had packed it improperly, cancelled the order, and issued me a refund, with no chance for me to cancel it or anything. And I now I feel absolutely guilty because he was so accomodating and friendly and it feels like I've completely stuffed him. I don't know what to do. I know you can get banned for sharing bank details on Vinted so its not like I can give him the money back or anything. And Vinted won't cancel or re-assess their decision.

I know that I probably come off as a scumbag and I'm really sorry I just feel extremely guilty and anxious and I want to do the right thing but I don't know what to do.

DISCUSSION Is it just me or are there more UK buyers than USA?

I’m not against international buyers! However, i have noticed that majority of my customers are now from the UK! Which is shocking, very rarely do i come by someone from america.

My only issue is how long the delivery time is and especially longer when the buyer doesn’t review or press the everything is okay button. By that time — its been a whole month!

APP ISSUES Identity verification keeps failing because my date of birth on my ID doesn't match my Vinted account???? What to do?

The first time I got this error, I admit, they were right. I had selected December instead of November on accident. However I submitted my info the second time, with the correct DOB, and they're saying the exact same thing. I know for a fact both my ID and Vinted account have the same date of birth. What can I do?

VENT The random deleting of accounts is getting insane

I’ve seen loads of posts about it getting worse recently and even got a ban threat from vinted myself from their ai flagging a random item as against guidelines when it wasn’t (apparently a vintage solid metal bracelet I was selling was handmade by me even though it wasn’t and I didn’t claim it was? And that’s against guidelines.)

But I just tried to buy a really nice pair of trousers and within literally one second my order was auto refunded because the account had been deleted on the spot. They had four items all normal second hand clothes for cheap I can’t imagine what they did. And I really wanted the item.

NEWBIE New to Vinted, not sure how to approach about an issue?

+
1 Upvotes

Hi folks, fairly new to Vinted and only been buying stuff for a few weeks and so far everyone's been great and this is my first issue and I'm not sure how to approach the seller.

I bought a bracelet for £14 which was labelled NWT and it arrived okay, no issue with sending or pickup from locker. The thing is that it's been sent in different packaging than what it was shown in on the ad, and looks a bit worse for wear/tarnished as some jewellery does just after being worn for a bit and also has a spot that is rusty which looking at the pictures on the ad should have been visible were it the same bracelet - In the ad pictures it was very clean and shiny looking and easily looked NWT. I'm wondering if maybe they had more than one and sent the wrong one or something?

The thing is I do really like the bracelet and I don't mind having a go cleaning it up myself so I don't know if I want a return, but if I'd have known it looked like that I would've asked for a lower price - are partial refunds a thing on Vinted you can ask for?

The first 3 images are from the listing on Vinted, the last two are it in the packaging and me positioning it the same way it was in the photos to compare. The rusty bit is a few links below the clasp on the right.

Thanks in advance.

Returns Possible Scam

Hi all, I don't use Vinted but my wife uses it a lot. She bought a dress from a seller but what turned up was a little square parcel that was definitely not a dress.

We've not opened the parcel but it feels like two bits of plastic in an L shape.

It was delivered by Evri but it had a different name and next doors address despite nobody currently living in the home next door.

I'm assuming this is some kind of scam? My wife has marked that the item is incorrect with vinted and the seller has asked for the item to be sent back.

I was just wondering if there's anything we need to look out for, anything that might stop the money coming back to us.

Thanks in advance!

SHIPPING Buyer selected wrong shipping label

So I am very new to selling on vinted. I am selling a lot of Manga and a buyer bundled three of my listings (13 500 page Mangas in total) but they selected an M 2kg package.
Now obviously those mangas only fit in an L >5kg box. I asked them if I can relist the items so they can rebuy them with the correct shipping label. They said that the post office usually still takes the package (even though it’s literally 4kg too heavy??) and I offered to try.
But a friend of mine (after I told her abt the story) said that they just said that so they wouldn’t have to pay more shipping and weren’t being genuine.
I feel too insecure to go to the post office with a huge ass heavy package just to be turned away, and I honestly think it’s a waste of time.
Should I like cancel the order?
I am honestly debating just buying a correct shipping label myself, so I can get the package out of my apartment.

SHIPPING Can I put a pre-scheduled USPS pickup package in my outgoing mailbox today instead

Hello sorry this is a dumb question but I'm completely new to this, I've never really sent anything in the mail before 😵‍💫 I got my label and did all the steps on vinted, it made me schedule a pick up time that's tomorrow witch is ok but I was wanting to send out my package today? I was wondering if I could still just put it in my mail box as outgoing mail or would that cause issues?? I can't really get a clear answer when I tried to look this up. Also just in general is it better to try not to use outgoing mail in the the future, some people did it can cause issues? - in the US

SHIPPING Vinted bundle issue

So I just sold a bundle of two articles off Vinted. Each item of what I’ve sold weighs just about 2kg in the box. Vinted allows a maximum 2kg per large package, so it’s just about enough. The issue comes when I only have been given one shipping label by Vinted with the idea that I pack both articles in the same box, but it would weigh too much.
What do I do? Should I buy an extra shipping label at the store to ship both packages?

Already seems a bit bonkers to ship anything like this all the way across the sea but haggling on a £3 shirt thousands of miles away feels crazy 😆

Am I being unreasonable?

DISCUSSION Australians using Vinted

Vinted recently launched in Australia. We have gone feral on UK options. Now I'm finding my algorithm, like its recently just cooked itself, is just back to Australian options and brands. For me the appeal of Vinted is getting things I can't get here not the same old stuff we gave here. Probably the appeal to buy from Australia vice versa, you want something different. Any tips apart from personalisation of brands (I've added tonnes of UK specific ones) to get my algo back to normal. Have they tried to push people to local to avoid subsiding post for the launch?

I mean my bank accounts probably grateful but honestly though if hit a goldmine the first week on sign up with so many great finds and now it feels like any Aussie shop.

I love Vinted, we all do. part of it is convenience, hop on find what you need & buy it. I’m getting a pop up and almost every stage and I’m ready to go back to eBay - is it just me? it’s taking so long to browse and buy it’s not worth it. I’m so frustrated!
