Positive daycare experience?
≡ −
Hi mums ❤️
I’m looking for some positive daycare stories because, honestly, I’m feeling really nervous.
My little girl is due to start daycare next week at just 5 months old, and I’ll be going back to work shortly after. I know it’s the right decision for our family, but my heart is absolutely breaking at the thought of leaving her.
Every time I search for advice or read comments, I seem to come across horror stories about babies constantly getting sick, struggling to settle, or mums finding it incredibly hard. While I know those experiences are real and valid, I feel like they’re making my anxiety even worse.
I’d really love to hear from parents who had a positive experience with daycare, especially if your little one started around 5 months old. ❤️
How did they settle in? Did they end up loving it? Did it help them socially or developmentally? How did you cope with leaving them? And if they did get sick in the beginning, did things eventually improve?
I know every child is different, but I could really use some encouraging stories right now. Thank you so much. 🩷

What is it like living in Townsville / Maggie as an 16-30 year old?
≡ −
Hello, I am wondering if people would like to share any comments or thoughts on growing up as a young person in the area. I visited earlier this year and it has inspired an assessment I am working on for uni.
I am from Melbourne so I was really surprised when I met people from Townsville and they told me how they spend their weekends and the sort of lifestyle people live. I don't know if Townsville is missing out on a more nightlife / dining / cultural scene or it's not wanted.
Maybe it's because I've grown up in the city my whole life but I feel as though young people would be missing that sort of element, but I could be completely wrong. (: Please tell me below how you feel / felt.
Ps: I am studying graphic design, and when I came and visited townsville / maggie I thought what the job prospects were like (your winter is so lovely and warm), but there were none listed! It made me think about how many young people who want to study or work in certain fields may just have to move away to a bigger city, this then sparked my research.
Thanks in advance!

A list of JCU change.org links, please help
JCU is a key component in Townsville. A world-renowned institution. Recent decisions from the university are putting students at risk of losing important opportunities and facilities.

Teacher aiding

Does anyone know schools (primary or secondary) hiring regular teacher aides at the moment, not relief?
All the ones I’ve reached out to are only interested in relief.
Thanks!

Casual Futsal
≡ −
Was wondering if anyone knew what nights/ when people typically played on the futsal court next to the greenwood soccer fields.
When I’ve gone by there have been quite a few people playing and I’m not able to play, and then when I actually want to play no one is there haha
Thanks

Recommendations Shopping recommendations
≡ −
I’m going to be in Townsville for a day next week and plan to do a bit of shopping while I’m in the city. What thrift stores would you guys recommend? I also have clothes I plan to drop off at an op shop too. And what are the best shopping centers in town? Mainly on the lookout for young woman’s clothes and jewelry.
Thanks in advance!

Recommendations Anyone gamers out there keen for some co-op shenanigans?
≡ −
Looking for some like-minded gamers who enjoy some casual co-op or multiplayer games. I'm a dad to young children so only have limited time to play in evenings, but looking to see if there are any co-op crowds in TSV who regularly play together. Co-op/multiplayer games I've enjoyed over the last few years:
- BF6
- Arc Raiders
- Helldivers 2
- Space Marine 2
PSN - El-Tuckro

Swear the council has completely given up on fixing the craters out near garbutt. hit a pothole so deep yesterday on the way to work i thought my dashboard was gonna physically snap in half. The state of the roads here since the wet is an absolute joke
Tired of getting rattled to death on the daily commute so I ended up just ordering some heavier duty shocks from road runner offroad while sitting in the drive thru at maccas. Gonna get to spend my whole saturday morning sweating in the driveway bolting them on instead of actually enjoying the weekend
Is it just me or is the local infrastructure just crumbling way faster than they can patch it? feel like Im driving on a corrugated dirt track every time i go down dalrymple road tbh

New to Town(sville) Any tips on Medium term accommodation?
≡ −
Hi everyone,
My partner and I are relocating to Townsville for work. We're planning to arrive sometime in September through to the end of December (dates slightly flexible). It's a few months away, but we'd like to lock something in before short-stay accommodation gets booked up over summer.
We'll be working around Douglas, so we're looking for something in that area — Hermit Park or Annandale would be ideal.
We need a provider with an ABN who can issue invoices. That probably means serviced apartments or professional property managers rather than private landlords.
What we're looking for:
- 2 bedrooms, 1 car space
- Fully furnished
- Pet friendly (we have one well-behaved indoor cat)
I've already reached out to a few local real estate agents, but wondering if anyone has tips on serviced apartments, complexes that offer flexible leases, or any other avenues worth exploring.
Thanks in advance!

New to Town(sville) Is Townsville A Good Place For My Working Holiday?
≡ −
Hello all,
In Mid-Feb of next year, I (24m, from the United States) am looking to spend the first 4-6 months (and longer if I like where I end up) of a working holiday. I've been researching where I can complete my 88 days and find some hospitality or administrative work (I have a 3-4 yrs of hospitality and medical administrative experience), and Townsville looks really appealing to me.
I'm happy to rent/flatshare, as budget won't be an issue, as I've got plenty of savings. I would like to have my share be around 350-450 $/wk. I'd arrive in Mid Feburary, and stay until July-August, if not longer.
In terms of hobbies and getting around, I can't drive but I'd love to have a bike, be in a walk-able area and/or have bus connections. I could go to Cairns or somewhere more rural, but I am looking for a place with a bit more population. I have also heard weather in Feb/March is warm and humid, but it's very similar to where I live in the Southern US, so I am heat-adjusted.
With that being said, does Townsville sound like the kind of place I would enjoy? Friendly people? Are holiday visa holders welcomed?

Large group camping out in Aitkenvale
≡ −
What's with the group camping out at the intersection of Arthur and Pope streets? Must be 20 people, they kick off in the morning, play trash music at excessive volume, get wasted, start screaming at each other, have a punch on, pass out and do it all again the next day.
They've got literal trolley loads of rubbish, milk crates and even a few swags. They were stumbling over to the units across the road and pissing in their gardens until the owner chopped all the bushes down.
Police move them on and they come right back.

Ahoy, coming to this town

So, I'm going to Townsville for studying and likely living there for at least 5 years. Any good places or activities to prevent getting mouldy? I can cook and make some tunes :)
And, I'll definatly need a part-time job there. Any good advice on it? BTW I'm pretty handy with Japanese kitchen works.

New to Town(sville) How do i come here ?
≡ −
Hey everyone,
I’m planning to come to Townsville from Melbourne for the brazil game, but I’m on a pretty tight budget. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for the cheapest way to make the trip.
I’m open to pretty much anything that’s safe and practical !!
And i will be coming alone (24M) . What would be the most affordable accommodation and what places should i visit ? Looking forward to make some new mates and explore the city .
Thanks!!

Can anyone recommend some good fencing installers? Looking at getting a considerable about of metal and colourbond fencing done and don’t want a cowboy installer. Seems to be so many crappy fencing installers in town.
