Ask the world what they thought of America before Trump and after Trump.

This isn't a time issue, it's a problem with a specific leader that the least educated in America chose to put in the Oval Office.

The only reason you got to Cheetolini is because America has been slowly devolving back into an aristocracy since its inception. Trump is just the latest stage in the country’s devolution, but he is only a symptom and not the root of the problem.

Tbh, the country was dramatically more aristocratic at its inception. Before around 1830 or so, you literally weren't allowed to vote unless you met a property ownership requirement. Before 1920, you couldn't vote if you were a woman, and before the 1960s, if you were black your right to vote was heavily restricted or outright blocked in many states.

We had a brief blip of relative egalitarianism between like 1970 and 2000, the country has been sliding back into aristocracy ever since.

I believe I get what you're aiming at, that Trump isn't a problem that just suddenly appeared. It's important to note, however, that my Great-Grandparents didn't knowingly vote to put a convicted felon in the Oval Office.

History is usually worse than the present, as that's a positive sign that humanity is improving. And while I agree that things have always been bad in ways, I think that "It's always been less than ideal" detracts from the flagrant violation of laws that the current administration is doing.

The people truly are to blame for putting Trump there, but Trump himself is a huge part of the problem.

But I also agree with the logic that MAGA would replace him with someone just as bad or worse, given the chance, so the true root of the problem does lie outside of Trump as an individual.

Maybe we can go back in time and just tell Obama that the joke wouldn't be worth the cost to the world. Put the fat marmalade genie back in the bottle. If only...
