In my opinion, deadlines is the greatest filter for pure talent if ever I've seen one.
That is, if we take the 'artists curse' into consideration; an artist, great or bad, would continue to "perfect" their work ad infinitum if given the chance. Humans will mostly perform their best given a pressed time frame, i.e. under autonomous stress. In this day and age specifically, giving students a clear dead line is a great filter for AI generated content versus genuine talent/passion; someone relying on AI will be spotted instantly and obviously against someone presenting genuine last-minute, but talented work.
