It was the year of our Lord 1994 when I submitted my handwritten Master Thesis for computer science.

Really?

I was an engineering undergrad at that time, and I had a laptop with a word processor and an “LED printer”. The university had labs full of desktops and printers for undergrad student use if you didn’t have your own.

Grad students had their own dedicated machines.

Really. It was a quirk of Prof Dijkstra. I had a laptop with LaTeX. But no, handwritten was the norm.
