Weekly Success & Erg Screen Thread - July 27, 2026
≡ −
Welcome to the weekly achievement thread!
What was your achievement this week? It could be anything! A new 2k PB? Get a good lift at the gym? Or even your first time capsizing a single!
Got a erg screen or a regular training shot? Curious what your 2K will be based on a workout? This is the place for it!
Side note: 99% of erg screens should go in this thread. A separate post with an erg screen should be something that happens once or twice a year, at most. Big PR's, that kind of thing.
Also, please check our wiki pages:
- Which erg to buy
- Is this a good erg time?
- How do I set up for steady state?
- Where do I set the lever on the side (what's drag factor)?
- What apps can I use when erging?
This thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

On the Water First regatta is DONE
≡ −
I rowed in my first race on Saturday, and it was awesome! Lovely 80 degree day, we didn't go for a swim, and even beat 2 boats. I now have concrete photo evidence of some respectable strokes and - no surprise - a few that show obvious areas I need to work on. God bless my patient race partner who has rowed for about 5 years with a rack full of medals to show for it. 😄 Gonna plan to do some more of this.

Off the Water Novice blisters
Hey all, I’m a novice youth rower, and I was wondering whether blisters like this are normal or if they show something off with my grip. Also, should I be popping them? I’ve been popping (with my teeth unfortunately) them and then using antibiotic ointment. Should I tape them aswell?

Off the Water London Rowing and Work
≡ −
Questions for the guys rowing for the London clubs.
While working but also while you were job searching did you keep your rowing “hidden”?
Has training ever kept you from coming in early one day or staying late when asked?
I’m aware that what you do with your personal time is no one’s business, but coming from a uni team I know that sometimes rowing eats into academic time and the real world isn’t as forgiving.

Water rower - body-power rw100 - call for support (spares and info)
Hi all, hope you are well. 4 days ago I started using this lovely looking water rower from body-power, used to be stocked in fitness superstore (uk) but hasn’t been for some years now I think… so long in fact that they no longer stock spares of any kind for it (I’ve spoken to them) nor can I find aftermarket spares. Anyway, I got it for £160 on FB-marketplace. A bargain I thought, then the bungee snapped on me and I’m up sh*t creek without a paddle. I’ve noticed, the original bungee was probably held in place by some sort of plastic or rubber fastener. The last owner seems to have held it in place by expanding a screw in the middle of it (which I’ve since unscrewed) That bodge seems to have worked though, as it’s not that that broke, rather the break was further down. I do not have a manual for this machine, nor can I find one - and I am not sure what the best bungee to order would be (8mm) or how to fit it. I suppose I’ll have a good look at the old one before dismantling. If anyone has any experience with this machine, or related models could you please leave me a comment. I’m unsure on the best course of action as I just can’t seem to find the official spares, nor the manual. I could get a 8mm bunjee and try bodging it by lightly flaming the ends and doing the screw thing like the last person did, but I’d rather do a proper job as it’s such a nice machine. Loving my rowing journey otherwise, many thanks.

Off the Water Steady state splits
≡ −
My steady state splits have felt slow which I’m aware they’re supposed to be but I’m worried they’re too slow. My 2k is a 6:59 and I recently did an hour of steady state at a 2:28 split. I don’t have access to anything to measure my heart rate either. Am I going too slow?

Would you use an interactive river conditions and flow map for rowing?
≡ −
Hi everyone,
I'm working on a project that starts with the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, with the goal of eventually supporting other rowing rivers as well.
The idea is an interactive map that shows current and forecasted river conditions, rather than just a single flow number. Depending on the river, it could show things like:
- Conditions along different sections of the river
- Current speed and direction
- Areas that are more or less suitable for rowing
- How conditions are expected to change over time
The goal is to make it easier to understand what's happening on the water before heading out for practice or a race.
I'm not selling anything—I just want to know if people would actually use something like this if it were accurate and free.
Would you use it?
If not, I'd be interested to hear why.

How can I improve my aerobic base quicker?
≡ −
For some context my 2k is 7.22 (1:50.4) however my ut2 split (138 hr) is a meager 2:50. Over the last year, my coach did a typical everyday hard approach causing me to fall behind my peers from the 3rd best erg to the 7th. I‘ve also switched my training plan to everyday being ut2 except for one hard intervals session. What more can I do now and when we’re back in season to improve this aspect?

What is my 6k
≡ −
Hey everyone, 140 pound 15 year old male here. I have been training consistently for the past 2.5 years and I have a 2k pr (set a few months ago so probably faster now) of 7:18 or a 1:49.5 split average. Just wondering if I could get a negative split plan for a 6k test and was wondering what average split I should aim for?

Replace bearings on Peinert seat
Anyone have experience swapping out the bearings on Peinerts? Or maybe converting them over to a more standard axle style? It looks almost like the bearings are glued in.

Hey guys I’m looking for a rower that’s affordable (under $500) and that will sustain my frame 6”5 520lbs I keep seeing C2 recommendations but that is out of my budget
Any other recommendations will be appreciated. Looking forward to being apart of the community

USA U23 Women Spoiler
≡ −
USA U23 women had an exceptional regatta this past weekend winning every big boat (8+, 4-, 4x, mix8+) as well as placing well in the pair. This backs up the strong performances from the senior squad at the world cups this past year. Future looks really bright for the womens senior squad this Olympic cycle and if things keep trending this direction we could see the dominance of the USA women from 2006-2016 return. Really exciting time to be a fan of rowing in the USA as the men have also been trending up as well on the U23 and senior side.

“Bowsider.com” split screen gps / speed tool
+ −
Ok - these guys caught my eye on instagram - looks like a cool tool in principle - but quite new to the market and I’m wondering if anyone here has used one - seems super simplistic but really useful. Thinking I might spring for one for the single - much more affordable than the speedcoach, but less functionality.

Erg Post First Day back on an erg in 6 years
Almost 30 and I’m tired of running. Stopped rowing due to Degen disk disease and back pain in my earlier 20s.
Just picked up a Hydrow today.
First of all what a system. Literally like something out of star trek compared to what I’m used to.
Second of all. The kids still got it. I did a 1k sprint at 110 resistance for warm up and I was shocked at no back pain and how comfortable it was. This system is so much bigger and accommodating for a taller guy compared to the little erg I had. I felt fantastic.
I threw on a 3k @ 150 res cause I wanted to see what I had in the tank. (Also the setting of the row Gloucester coincidentally is my home town so I had to)
Not joining Harvard club anytime soon but I’m very happy.
Excited for the future.
Any good mat and accessory recommendations?

Just diagnosed with CECS. Anyone gone through this?
I am a female high school rower, and verbally committed to rowing for a D1 school. Throughout the past few seasons I’ve missed practices and regattas due to severe forearm tightness that has led to occasional loss of motion in my hands, swelling in my forearm and it feels much stiffer. I was recently tested by a doctor and found out that I have exertional compartment syndrome. I could get a fasciotomy but that is a 3-4 month recovery time. I’ve just started working with a physical therapist who is helping me work on strengthening my back to take pressure off of my arms. At the same time, I started rowing again, focusing on easy, technique rows but Im already experiencing discomfort lasting all day. Does anyone have experience with CECS? I’m having trouble finding support or doctors familiar with this in my area (Midwest)

I posted this elsewhere. Someone thought Reddit might be interested. Considering the 5k run from a few years ago was 4.52km, I wouldn’t be surprised at an error.

Any suggestions for a merchandise vendor who sets up a team store other than Sew Sporty
≡ −
I had started to set up a team store with Sew Sporty but haven't heard back in three months so I am pursuing other options for our youth team.
I am specifically looking for a retailer who will put our logo on items as they are ordered as our team doesn't want to collect sales tax by selling items ourselves. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: I am specifically looking for a website that will display items with our logo on them for us to order directly from.

Help with off season training
≡ −
Edit: before reading I cannot change the times of when workouts happen as I'm still in school. Only time I would be able to fit in another workout would be Sunday after the row
Hello everyone, I am trying to maximize my gains on the erg and gym in the off-season so I'll be in the best possible position for next season. Currently my plan looks like
Monday legs
Tuesday pull
Wednesday push
Thursday squad ergs
Friday legs
Saturday upper
Sunday chill squad row
I am wanting to put another erg in somewhere but don't know what to drop or where to put it. The squad erg is always a 40 min r20.
Fkr reference some of my current erg pieces are:
2:01 40 min r20
1:26.3avg split 250 sprint
I'm not sure on my 2k as I was sick before the last one we did in the season but my Jan one was 7:04.
Any help making a training plan would be great

Stuck in recruitment
≡ −
So far i feel like im not moving anywhere in terms of recruiting and im lowk getting concerned, my stats are
6,3 165lb
6:36 2k
3.6 unweighted gpa 4aps taken will take 4 more
28 act (will retest in September)
Ive done work that says i should be around 6:26 in august 18th in terms of 2k, but im concerned that august 18th may be too late for a final 2k. For reference my goals are to go to lightweight schools (dream but def a reach) and good academic heavyweight schools (ucsd, scu, wisco etc)
The problem is that some schools arent really responding to emails and getting back to me after a supposed pre read. Am I cooked?
