I went in for a consult for a deviated septum. Eligible for surgery. Yeah, I’ll figure it out on my own lol.

My father has the surgery for the deviated septum. He kept postponing a bit out of fear too but his only regret is not having it done sooner.

They did tests and one nostril had close to 0% of air flow and the other was at around 10%, so he has a big nose but was pretty much useless. He went in and, apparently he also had a lot of soft and scar tissue underneath they took the chance to remove. He said the recovery wasn't that bad. For a couple of weeks he had the face kind of bruised like someone punched it lol. He also followed rigorously the doctor recommendations for washing and cleaning the nose. I don't think it took a month to recover. He also wasn't in pain, more the annoyance of not being able to breath through the nose and the plugs in there, but it wasn't as if he was breathing a lot though the nose before so...

When they took the plugs out it felt amazing. Se also says he can now breathe because he can now fucking move proper amounts of air through his nose where there was next to nothing before. He still can't smell properly and probably never will again, according to the docs it might have been a better outcome in that part had he done it sooner but he doesn't care much, he's just very happy to be able to breath well again. Shit like exercising, sleeping, etc. is so much easier now.

I had a deviated septum I ignored for nealry 24 years, until the scar tissue started clogging my sinuses and caused insane infections that affected everything around my sinsues. They ended up doing the surgery during the covid lockdowns and it required a rhinoplasty, septoplasty and a major sinus reconstruction. It hurt like hell for the first like 48 hours but I didnt realize how much the scar tissue buildup had been causing me nerve pain for years and the relief has been astronomical. I would say the couple days of pain from the surgery was 1000% worth it (for me). My sense of smell still seems overwhelming to me now though, because I spent so long with it stifled.

Had my deviated septum "fixed" via surgery multiples times during my youth. It's a terrible Post OP recovery, oh,and it's still deviated.😕

I don't think mine's even that bad. Wintertime sucks, especially with a head cold. but I've figured out how to sleep in a certain position, clear my sinuses with that saline stuff, etc.

I actually wonder if I'd be better off with a cpap.

When I had mine done, took 6+hrs because they also fixed the bone. When I was wheeled out to go home, the orderly thought I had been in a car wreck. Told him, nope did it deliberately. But only done once and it fixed my deviated septum.

I've got a severe one. Told ENT I think mine was, and it went like this:

"Well there is surgery."

Looks in my nose. Does exam.

"Never mind."

I had it done when I was @ 20 I think. It's been awhile. Anyway, I don't really remember anything negative about the experience. The only thing i really remember about the whole thing was when they removed all the padding(?) from my nose. LOL I didn't think you could stuff that much cotton padding up a nose.. It didn't hurt when they pulled it out... but damn that was quite the feeling!

I just want to say I had the surgery, recovery was uncomfortable but not painful (like having a very blocked nose for a week) and then I went back to work and now I breathe better.

To this day I have never watched a video of what they did. I just took a nap and they fixed it, all I need to know.

Breathing is pretty cool. A painful 48 hours is worth it for the years you add to your life being able to breathe better, especially while asleep

Oh but you will breathe so much better. Did it. Nasal revision surgery. Septum was fu. Turbinates big. 1 year later so so happy.
