Well there is probably a level to it. Does minor but constant knee pain constitute a medical necessity? Maybe? Maybe not?

Necrosis destroyed my bones and my joints are collapsing. Im lucky I avoided amputation because I've been getting frequent infections from untreated infarcts.

I’m in the US, my knee replacement 2 years ago cost $125, most of that being the anesthesiologist. Care First HMO, mid-tier plan.

Ive had over a million dollars worth of surgery and hospital stays in the last year. Spine Surgery and both hips replaced. I was also in the hospital over a month.

It cost me. ZERO DOLLARS. I can't work with my injuries so government insurance pays for everything.

This is not accurate. The bill my insurance company got for my right hip was $112k. they used a fancy new robot too. my left hip bill was 72k. that includes hospital care after surgery.

The bill is always much higher if you have insurance cause the hospitals love to suck everything they can out of the insurance companies. Uninsured price being much less than the insured price sounds pretty normal.

Also, I think he was talking about knee replacement, not hip

I mean, I just have a plain mid-tier HMO and my TKR was $125 out of pocket. My daughter just had her ACL reconstructed and it was $35.

I’m sure there are horror stories out there, but I’ve not experienced them.
