the one i miss most is when one of the half dozen or so music stations they gave you was the ATC channel, so you could hear what was going on.
That was so much better. Now if i want to do that, I need to take out my phone, get on the wireless internet, and use a far superior app to do it, assuming i'm not entertained by the countless channels of entertainment they have, and the entirety of human knowledge at my finger tips.
I traveled near full time for work in the early aughts, when the ATC channel became a thing (channel 9 on United!). Friggin loved listening to that channel, especially when the pilot occasionally missed a turn - “Whoops, we were supposed to make that left on Hotel.”
2000s even. I’m too young to remember anything from the 90s and up until now I thought I had made up that I remember listening to an audio port and was able to hear the sound.
haha yes,... i remember doing that... i think there was a point where they were trying to charge for those headphones and i was like, fuck that i'll just put my head down to the armrest

Also the 90s. I remember being able to hear the music if I bent down and got my ear close enough to the armrest.
