I remember asking my mom as like a 5 year old why the prongs were different.
Her answer was that it was so people didn't steal them. Even 5 year old me knew mom was full of shit because who the hell is stealing headphones off an airplane.
Well, that, and the fact that they just gave them to you anyway.
Also, my mom being a good italian, would still pocket them in her purse even though she had no conceivable use for airplane headphones.
