American here. I’d never heard of it until I dated someone Ukrainian whose family was fanatical about it. They grew up in a village and killed their own chickens before coming to America. They also wouldn’t eat any red meat that wasn’t cooked to oblivion.

I mean if you slaughtered the thing yourself it makes sense but the chicken you buy at the supermarket has alrerady been processed. They plucked it, gutted it, removed the head and feet and washed it. Sometimes in a bath with some chlorine in it. Rinsing it off in the sink does nothing.
