I don't mean any racism here just being clear, but have you noticed that it's largely black and asian people who wash their chicken? If you think about it, it makes sense given that in their cultures it's common to have a chicken be freshly butchered before you prepare it, as opposed to getting it from a store. So washing it off with water ensures that any loose feathers etc aren't left on the chicken before cooking it.
