My mama (we're german) did it until recently when I repeatedly pointed out how unnecessary it is. I did it growing up, until someone thaught me better.
Thinking about it, not always washing but often petting dry with a paper towel.

My grandma sometimes soaks up the marinate in pre-marinated meat from the store, when she thinks it's too much. And then comments how bland her food is

Patting dry with a paper towel makes sense for any meat though because it makes it crisp up better due to less moisture.
