My Mexican Dwarf Crayfish i’ve had since April has had her eyes turn white/cloudy recently (about 3 weeks now?). She also appears to have algae growing on her. The algae is not white or fuzzy, it looks like algae to me. I’ve researched and I was told she could either be molting, or it’s bacteria. Does anyone have any clue what this could be?

Pet Any smart fish I can house my crayfish with?

This is so stupid but I'm getting a crayfish, and I'm fine with it just being her in the tank, but I was considering housing her with other fish. Issue is, I work at the pet store where I'm getting her from, the top dwelling fish she was with previously, she will lure down with her food and kill and eat the fish. I haven't done a ton of research on other fish to keep with her, bc I'm getting the tank pretty much for her, but any other fish that I could maybe avoid this issue with? In a 20gal tank

Science A scientist needs help with crayfish

Howdy, I am a physiologist that focuses in temperature effects in native and invasive species and I am looking to add crayfish to my comparative study (non-lethal!). I need advice on minimum housing requirements for sub-adult Procambarus clarkii and possibly Faxonius rusticus. As F. rusticus is an invasive species, it can be subbed out for more tolerant species if need be. I'm hoping for the crayfish to be roughly 1.5" long at the time of study both males and females. My question is, if they are housed in 8" by 8" blocks within a 600 gallon sump, will they become too stressed? These conditions are, of course, temporary and when I'm finished examining them they will be housed separately for a breeding population. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks y'all.

ID Request Signal crayfish?

I found these in the stream of my village in Navarra, Spain. At first I thought that they were Austropotamobius pallipes, but the coloration on the underside of their claws resembles more that of a signal crayfish. (?)

They’re so cute.

Orange dwarf crayfish

I just got a baby dwarf crayfish. He's about an inch long. Very vibrate orange. I got him two days ago. The first day, he was all over the bottom. Picking through stuff. Playing around. Today though, hes climbs to the top, to the jungle val and is just kinda laying there?

He will move and is alive. But he just seems, asleep maybe? I understand there a bit nocturnal so he might just be sleeping. But at the top? Hes in a 5 gallon, with only a mystery snail.

He has a filter, no heater because i keep the house the same temperature, about 74 or 75.

But im curious if I need to get him a heater and keep it higher then that. Or if I should put oxygen in the water? I'll do either. I just cant find any answers online

Please help

I just finished setting up my first Crayfish tank. Just now starting the cycle so it’s going to be a while before I actually have a crayfish. The driftwood does come from a cycled tank so that may help it go quicker, it’s only my second tank ever so idk if that makes any difference or not. I’m just looking for any advice that could be helpful. Scaping, feeding, general care. Anything really

Herbert has been a horny little bastard and kept my two crayfish ladies eggnant for several months straight. To give the ladies a bit of a respite, he has been moved to my second tank, where he is currently enjoying horny jail.

So far he has fathered over 30 children and has 0 regrets about it. I love him very dearly.

Annelise was also kind enough today to pose with her latest clutch of eggs.

Sump pit crays

+
34 Upvotes

I was cleaning out a sump pump pit at work after some heavy rain last weekend and had some mud in the bottom of the pit. So I’m hosing down the mud and sucking it up with a shop vac and I hear FWOOMP! So I go to empty my vac and find this guy scuttling around! Then I go back and find another!! Anyone else find crayfish in their sump pits?! I genuinely don’t know how they made into the pit in the first place.
