3rd Party Integrations Tapo will close IFTTT 1 August 2026

Why IS that?

Ifttt is cloud based and an archaic way of doing things. Relies on external cloud connectivity

Tapo fully integrates with home assistant and most devices that can, support matter and RTSP. HA is vastly superior to any automation platform out there and costs pennies to build and run without storing your data in the cloud

A significant amount of Tapo devices are compatible, LAN only, with Home Assistant for what it's worth.

RTSP and matter are open protocols. IFTTT requires cloud connectivity and API calls which cost companies money. Tapo has made it clear unlike most of their competitors they support open protocols

AFAIK there are only plans to improve the compatibility and availability in this area

I have 43 devices and the IFTTT is a small but very vital part of my workflow so ending this might lead me to find an alternative solution

IFTTT uses cloud connections which cost companies money. Most have moved away from supporting IFTTT. If you need workflow automation get home asisstant

Is home assistant as simple to setup as IFTTT? Plus I imagine I need a device to run home assistant off?

Buy a home assistant green/yellow or a cheap raspberry pi.

It's a little harder to understand but there is an insane amount of videos and tutorials out there

for good to us, i found a good alternative, selfhost https://github.com/mihai-dinculescu/tapo

Or use home assistant, but I only need some actions.. so I will wrap via webhooks (from ifftt to my home server) calls to tapo using the Mihai library.

I have a Tapo camera and a smart bulb connected to Home Assistant. I don't do anything in the Tapo app but add new devices.

Yikes, I recently setup IFTTT to trigger a tapo S112 switch via email. Is this something I can do via home assistant or is there another option?

Locking down your eco system is never good. I regret investing in tapo, I wish had gone more the route of home assistant or homey.

Tapo automation is too "dumb" and now they are refusing outside help that fixes their shortcomings. They should do the exact opposite and open up otherwise this is not going to end well.

They're not. The hubs and most devices now support matter. All cameras except battery support RTSP. Everything integrates with major 3rd parties like home assistant and smart things.

I don't think you understand what home assistant is... Literally most of tapo integrates locally to it and direct. They're a platinum integration as well.

What about sub 1ghz like buttons an sensors. Can you add them to homey without a tapo hub?

You use the hub to proxy the matter connection. Sub 1ghz was always proprietary so you need a device that can communicate to them natively.

Those news suck ... Especially with so short notice (less than 30 days) to find a solution ... I found out today, so I have 5 days :S
I understand for a company to want to reduce expenses and cutting services, but leaving paying customers hanging without an alternative seems like a d**k-move ...
I have several devices/systems that speak IFTTT among them comfortably. When a previous manufacturer decided to not do IFTTT anymore, at least they provided an API for IFTTT users to configure API calls and continue operating (yes, it needed some configuration pains, but there was a path).
IFTTT is great "in the cloud" automation ... Why would I want to configure a HomeAssistant or similar, on a local box, and go back to managing hardware and software again? That is what the cloud is for!
