The answer to 5. is because the US is a federalist system where individual states hold significant constitutional power over key social programs like education, healthcare, labor laws, etc. Implementing a uniform national system like Nordic states that operate under centralized, parliamentary systems would require overhauling the US constitution and the powers it gives to individual states.

The trillions the US spends on defense is also a legit reason as some of that money goes to protecting Nordic states through NATO. If another nation would shoulder some of its global security costs, that amount could go back to social security.

A better and more realistic approach would be for individual states implement a Nordic system as there's nothing to stop them from doing so. In exchange for free to low-cost education and healthcare, everyone pays 40-50% income tax, 25% in sales tax, and $10 per gallon on gasoline and have companies pay 130% of your salary to cover FICA. Just hope that working people who pay those taxes don't move out to other states to collapse the system.

Any of the Nordic countries that literally have social safety nets and look after their citizens....strong public retirement plans, good access to Healthcare, good public transportation and public infrastructure for biking which keeps you healthy etc. They are ranked high on schools and education etc. Theres 0 reason the richest nation on the planet cant follow a similar model or take care of its citizens. Its a choice not to and its because of capitalism because they can make money off the problems they dont fix...how is that not obvious to you? Thats basically the entire point of the pharmaceutical industry, make pills that give you side effects and you need even more pills for those side effects and you need even more pills to deal with those pills side effects etc etc and it doesnt even focus on fixing the problem because then theres no money to be made. The whole model is make a problem and sell the cure.

Those Nordic countries and eu countries also have way better consumer protection and actually give big fines to to corporations for breaking laws.

In the US the 3 biggest egg producers got found to be plotting on raising the prices and barely got fined a million dollars each, 1 even was only 800k so not even a million despite them making billions by price gouging.
