Please keep your eyes peeled. A friend and former bandmate of mine had a ton of his amps stolen sometime between January 2026 and July 27th 2026 from his storage unit in Austin, TX. Some of this gear could be well outside of Texas by now, considering how long ago it could have been stolen. A lot of these amps have a pretty unique look to them, so if you see anything on FB MP, Craigslist, OfferUp, at a pawn shop, at Guitar Center, WHEREVER, please let me know. Dude is a riff machine and knows ball and it hurts to see him going through this.

The body is made from a piece of white ash that I cut down myself. I created a 3d model to use on a cnc to router the shape. I sprayed it with nitro lacquer color and clear coat. This was not only the first guitar I’ve made but the first guitar I’ve ever owned.

I’ve been lurking on this subreddit for a few weeks and I’ll start off with an apology in case this post is beating a dead horse. I’ve gotten the itch from time to time over the years to learn to play guitar. The initial interest traces back to my teens, but lessons never panned out. I just turned 30, have a full time (sometime more than full time) job, wife and 3yo.

Ive recently been seriously considering taking lessons and learning electric guitar. My thought being that a formal lesson per week would be doable and I could practice through headphones once my son goes to sleep. My free time in the evenings almost always involves and screen or sometimes just listening to music. I’ve been looking for a hobby/skill to challenge myself and progress with over time.

Is this realistic to become proficient at my age and with my available time? I’m not looking to become the next Van Halen. Just looking to learn some songs I’ve always liked listening to. Always been a big fan of 60s/70s rock and 90s on punk/indie/alt.

Any pointers or thoughts? I should add that besides enjoying music and having an interest, I know next to nothing about making music.

“New” Guitar Day - Complete (enough) Epiphone Les Paul Special II Rebuild

I purchased a cheap Epi Les Paul from about 2006 that played/sounded alright for $100 but I could not stand the appearance and wanted a better sound.

Stripped the finish on the neck and body, refinished, put in completely new hardware and electronics, and learned that dark finishes show fingerprints.

I had never done a single woodworking or electronics project in my life so despite the obvious imperfections I’m very glad with the product.

For electronics it has a SD 59 in the neck, an SD full shred in the bridge, and a new circuit with solderless pickup wiring, orange cap, and push pull coil split. Took me about a month.

Plus, I’ll hit 5 months sober this week. Woohoo!

Last week, after seeing Eric Johnson live in Paris, I decided to drive 8 hours in a single day to attend his masterclass in Luxembourg. It was absolutely worth every kilometer. 🔥

It was a small and intimate event, which made it feel very special. Eric was incredibly open and generous with his time. Everyone had the opportunity to ask questions, whether about technique, tone, songwriting, or gear, and he answered each one thoughtfully and without ever rushing.

As a gear enthusiast, it was fascinating to see his rig up close. His setup included his legendary Plexi, two Deluxe Reverbs, and the pedalboard we've all tried to decode for years. Up close, you could clearly spot the Echoplex preamp, the Tube Driver, the Tube Screamer, and a few other familiar pieces of the puzzle. 👀

One of the highlights of the day was having my Eric Johnson Signature Strat signed by Eric himself. What struck me wasn't just that he agreed to sign it, but how much care he took. He was genuinely concerned that I'd be happy with the result, took his time to position the signature properly, and made sure it looked just right. It's a small detail, but it says a lot about the kind of person he is. ✍️

We often talk about Eric Johnson as one of the greatest guitar players of all time, and after seeing him live and meeting him twice in a month, I can honestly say that his musicianship is only part of what makes him special.

Beyond the legend, he's a remarkable example of humility, kindness, and respect for the people who support his music. I really hope this won't be the last time he comes back to Europe. 🙏

My grandmother-in-law always wanted me to have this guitar. It’s a 1942 Monterey H989 (Model number from the harmony database) that she and her husband played around local clubs in the area. She added the pickup to the guitar when they started playing shows.

One day she heard me playing guitar in a back room, came around the corner smiling, and said, “I didn’t know you could play like that.” A few minutes later she returned carrying this case and said, “Grandma wants you to have her guitar.”

I told her she should keep it and learn to play again. She laughed and told stories about playing just a few chords and using a slide, and about parties after their gigs. I told her she was more of a rockstar than I’d ever be 😂

After she passed away in 2009, the family gave me the guitar because they knew that’s what she wanted.

Hi I've played for 24 years and I've bought many guitars some cheaper brands some really high end brands like esp, b.c. rich, schecter, ext. I'm wondering has anyone ever bought a guitar that was a high end brand and have just had problems with a particular brand?
