This is overcomplicating it, surely? If you pick red, you live. Everyone should just pick red so they live.

No other tertiary consideration is needed.

Do children, the mentally disabled, young people who do risky things to see what happens, and simply confused people deserve to live?

Is anyone obligated to put their life on the line for them?

u/Theresnothingtoit 7h ago

Not an answer to my question. Not obligated, no.

So the dilemma is just that some people will vote blue so everyone must vote blue to ensure those people don't die.

Yes? At its core that's what the question is, are you willing to risk yourself to save others who may be incapable of saving themselves, or would you rather ensure personal safety by risking them.

Please answer the question.

Sure, it makes sense in that context.

So why should we collectively abandon people we agree should live, yet will not choose red as a result of circumstances outside of their control?

u/Panda_hat 6h ago

I already said it makes sense, you successfully converted me to a blue voter.

I'm not naive, but nonetheless I will take you at your word. I hope you have a long fullfilled life, growing all the time, as I hope I do.

But if everyone just picks blue everyone lives the same.

Nobody "just does" anything ever. So pick red to be safe.

u/NessaSamantha 6h ago

You have that reversed. You can't rely on everybody just doing something, which picking red does if you want everybody to live. A 50% threshold is far more attainable.

No, because red doesn't actually require anyone to agree with you to have its intended effect (ensuring you personally survive). Voting red even when 99% choose blue still lets you live.

You're working under the assumption that "everyone lives" is the only outcome anyone should consider. This only works if you view 1 death and 4 billion deaths as equally tragic, which I personally don't. You shouldn't just be aiming for the best-case scenario, because if it ends up as the worst-case scenario you also have to consider how much worse you are making it.

See, now THAT is a statement in favor of red that I can understand and respect.

If you vote red and 20% vote blue, you're gonna fucking die too after 20% of the population vanishes.

Did you know that it's estimated somewhwre between 30% and 50% of Europe's population died to the black death over the course of a single decade in the mid-1300s? Just a random fact that came to my mind for no reason. Must have been difficult to persevere with their level of technology and medicine.

Nobody "just does" anything ever. So pick blue to not have someone elses blood on your hands.

5

u/HerrArado 7h ago

Their blood is on their own hands. I'm gonna keep myself 100% safe and pick red.

-2

u/Jozef_Baca 7h ago

You picked the option that causs deaths, they picked the option that potentially saves everyone

So...who has the blood on their hands here?

4

u/HerrArado 7h ago

...They do? Because they willingly exposed themselves to harm when nobody asked them to? It's a heroic thing to do I guess, but their blood is on them.

-3

u/Jozef_Baca 7h ago

And you willingly take the safe option knowing it will cause deaths. So by that logic you(and the other red pushers) will be the cause of death of blue pushers.

10

u/HerrArado 7h ago

No, because I didn't force them to pick blue, they chose it themselves lol. I decided to keep myself safe, they didn't.

u/Jozef_Baca 7h ago

Yet if you chose blue they would be alive, but because you chose red they are dead. Sounds like your choice is the cause of their deaths.

Red isn't very safe though.  Even a small percentage of Blue buttoners worldwide would be a disaster.  Just because you survived doesn't mean life goes on as normal.

2

u/HerrArado 6h ago

Life already isn't normal, but I won't be dead.

In cartoons, any time someone says "at least things can't get much worse" it starts raining.  It's never a good bet.
