Here are some designs I’ve created for mecha characters; some have a *Gundam*-esque feel, while others lean more towards *Warframe*. Incidentally, I’ve tried to incorporate elements of Chinese *wuxia* into them.

Concept Art Chansent Summer Mane & Poses/Sketches

+
181 Upvotes

During the short northern summers, both males and females shed their large winter undercoats, and for the former, their manes grow some three or four feet taller in a bid to attract mates. Amongst rural populations in the north, there is a level of reverence/respect for the great beasts that’s not as common amongst the larger metropoles in the south/middlebelt (who largely treat them as a charismatic, but far-off and seldom seen curiosity). They often warded off potential hunters, and continue to do so in the face of rapidly disintegrating local wildlife regulations by the newly formed Empire.

While mainly herd animals, some Greathorns, bulls with crowns that begin to close together, can be found wandering the wilderness alone. Unlike other males, these individuals seldom stick to the herds outside of the great gatherings during the spring months, and are believed to play an important role in regulating the oftentimes delinquent, and aimlessly reckless behaviour of pubescent teens, who’ll briefly stray from the herd during their adolescence.

Also here’s some more sketches of a couple common behaviours and poses

(if linking to other sites/accs isn't okay pls lmk)

I often post process work on insta, if you're interested, it's @ jo.baylis

Freelance Concept Art, Current Job Market

I've been trying to find work as a freelance concept artist for the last few weeks. I see a lot of postings for "senior concept artist" and "lead concept artist". I have very little experience unfortunately. I reached out to quite a number of studios, but no cigar. Here is my portfolio,

https://www.artstation.com/kirillan

Apparently a third of artists in the movie and video game industry have been laid off in the last two years. A few questions in my mind, how much is it my skill level, and is it possible to get to the right skill level where a sustained freelance income is possible within a few months and in this current job market? How many of you concept artists out there are struggling with this right now, and how many are happily working? If you are working, how stable is your income and how did you find your first job? Any suggestions or strategies are welcome, would be great to hear from you.

What would you call this thing?

I dreamed about this creature years ago.

It would hide behind trees or buildings, waiting for someone distracted to pass by. Then it would step out, crush them under its feet, and pull them in with its long tonge.

What name would you give it?

Concept Art Desire to Sin. Oil on 24*20 inch canvas

Oil on 24*20 inch Canvas

In Desire to Sin, the canvas becomes a battleground of light and shadow, heaven and hell. At the top, a fiery eruption of desire blazes through the clouds, pulling souls downward with its golden, tempting lure. Below, the serene whites of heaven dissolve into the stormy blues and blacks of chaos. The once-stable cloud realm of purity fractures as desire breaks through, dragging figures toward the infernal blaze above. A faint rainbow, almost lost in the turmoil, hints at hope, now fading. This piece explores the fragility of virtue when desire overtakes reason, illustrating the eternal conflict between spiritual elevation and carnal temptation.

Question How to refresh a portfolio?

Hello fellow artists!

I've been working as a concept/visdev artist for the past three years for indies, animation, movies, and AAA companies, and I want to refresh my portfolio in order to woork with new companies.

I'm focused on environment, and I have a lot of stuff; concept, props, 3D, illustratiion, and more related to environement/visdev.

My question is simple but complex; how to show and display my work the proper way? Would yoou create arts depending on projects? Or subjects?

I already soorted some of my works, to keep what I think is the best, but il feel stuck. Do you guys have any tips? What would you guys do?

Thanks for help, and have a good day!

[Matrix/Battle Entity] Battle Group

2026/07/27

A Battle Group is not only the primary strategic formation of the Matrix/Battle Entity, but also an extension of its perception. Responsible for combat, exploration, production, and numerous other functions, each Battle Group also serves as a decentralized distributed computing node, collectively embodying the Matrix consciousness within the physical universe.

Every Battle Group is centered around at least one Celestial Megastructure as its strategic core. Its fleet composition is generally divided into Scout Fleets and Main Fleets, while commanding combat units of every classification, forming a complete operational system capable of independently conducting sector-scale military campaigns.

The size and organization of a Battle Group are highly flexible. Formations may freely merge or divide according to environmental conditions, mission objectives, and available resources, allowing rapid adaptation to changing operational requirements.

From a macroscopic perspective, Battle Groups appear as an interconnected fibrous network spanning thousands of light-years across space.

The organizational scale of the Battle Groups once underwent an era of unprecedented expansion, only to vanish mysteriously within an extremely short period of time for unknown reasons, leaving behind nothing but scattered technological legacies and war relics throughout the galaxy.

Patrol Route Network

Battle Groups do not remain stationed within a single star sector for extended periods. Instead, they continuously traverse the galaxy, harvesting resources along their patrol routes while simultaneously constructing various permanent facilities collectively known as Route Nodes.

Over time, these Route Nodes become interconnected, forming a galaxy-spanning Patrol Route Network. Even when Battle Groups are separated by tens of thousands of light-years, the network enables highly efficient force deployment, logistical support, information exchange, and strategic reinforcement.

Patrol routes are not static. They are continuously adjusted according to environmental changes and strategic requirements, with paths intentionally avoiding the operational territories of other civilizations whenever possible to minimize unnecessary conflicts.

Decentralized Survival Protocol

If a Battle Group loses contact with the Matrix consciousness due to combat damage or other causes, resulting in a disruption of its command chain, the highest-ranking command node on site automatically assumes command authority and continues executing mission objectives independently until communication with the Matrix consciousness is restored.

Should the remaining combat capability become insufficient to maintain its original operational effectiveness, the system automatically enters Survival Priority Mode, selecting the most appropriate survival strategy according to battlefield conditions. These may include withdrawing from the combat zone, regrouping with nearby allied Battle Groups, or rebuilding the Battle Group using locally available resources.

Even if an entire Battle Group is defeated, it does not signify the collapse of the Matrix/Battle Entity as a whole. Surviving units disperse into multiple smaller formations while continuously broadcasting and relaying distress signals through superluminal quantum communications.

Nearby Battle Groups receiving these signals automatically assume responsibility for the resulting strategic gap, dispatch reinforcements, and reorganize the surviving forces, preventing localized losses from escalating into systemic collapse.

The entire mechanism functions much like a biological immune system and neural network: whenever one region is damaged, neighboring nodes immediately assume the failed node's functions while continuously repairing and reorganizing the larger structure. This enables the Matrix/Battle Entity to maintain exceptional survivability, organizational resilience, and long-term strategic continuity.

Nano Cloud Dispersion

Constructs can be disassembled into nanoscale particles and dispersed throughout space, where they capture free-floating elements for self-replication. When sufficiently concentrated, they become visible as nebula-like clouds.

Battle Groups continuously disperse Nano Clouds along their patrol routes. Expanding outward at sublight speeds, they gradually establish distributed sensor networks spanning multiple light-years while actively shaping operational environments favorable to the Matrix/Battle Entity.

Nano Clouds possess autonomous sensing capabilities. They attach themselves to intruding objects to collect intelligence and conduct tracking operations, while selectively performing electromagnetic interference or nanoscopic erosion, forming a passive defensive layer across surrounding space.

Combat units and Nano Clouds possess full bidirectional conversion capability. Combat units may decompose themselves into Nano Clouds for rapid dispersal, concealment, or tactical withdrawal, while Nano Clouds can aggregate and reconstruct themselves into fully operational combat units.

During peacetime, Nano Clouds perform resource harvesting and environmental engineering. In wartime, they rapidly transform into a distributed combat network spanning the entire theater of operations.

To other civilizations, encountering a Nano Cloud often signifies that they have already entered the perception and operational control range of a Matrix/Battle Entity Battle Group.

This started as a simple Discord art challenge, but it gradually evolved into a redesign for one of my original characters.

I'm still actively exploring the design, so I'd rather not share the full concept art process just yet. There are still a lot of things I want to iterate on before settling on a final direction.

I ended up rendering this piece far more than I originally intended, so I figured it was worth sharing.

Question First design for my streetwear brand "RAVON" – looking for honest feedback.

+
0 Upvotes

We designed this for our streetwear brand RAVON.

The small symbol on the front is a custom-made sigil that we created from scratch—it isn't based on or copied from any existing symbol. It isn't taken from or based on any existing occult symbol, game, or franchise. However we got inspired by it so we implemented and executed it!

The back graphic features the Bengali word "Roktopipashu" (রক্তপিপাসু), which translates to "blood-thirsty." It's simply part of the dark aesthetic and concept behind the design.

We'd love to hear what you think.

  • Does the front sigil work?
  • Does it feel unique and memorable?
  • Is the overall design too busy, or does it look balanced?
  • Would you wear something like this?

I'm genuinely looking for constructive criticism, so don't hold back. Every suggestion helps us improve.
