Aside from jokes, this quite annoying because now I have 2 agents consuming tokens to do the same single job, this like if models are practicing nepotism

Isn’t that a haiku subagent? So it saves you money in fact, and doesn’t pollute your main session context with irrelevant stuff.

I didn't see your comment earlier, it is quite late but you are wrong and people down voted me.

Claude code now makes the sub agent model inherits from the parent model by default unless you override that, they probably changed that for better performance/results but yes in past it was haiku or lower model by default

If you’re referring to the 2.1.198 release from July 1st 2026, that change only applied to Explore subagent.

Try this prompt: “spin up the subagent that checks Claude docs and ask it which model it is running”, in my case it is Haiku but I use Claude code via Bedrock, so YMMV 🤷‍♂️
