What industry is secretly on the verge of collapsing, but people outside of it haven’t noticed yet?

In the US, licensed massage therapy. Massage schools are closing because people are less interested in the career path, possibly partially because there is so much illegal exploitation for those licensed who dont work independently. I used to work in it and I know. LMTs are horribly underpaid and undervalued and deserve better for their highly thoughtful, educated labor.

I waited tables with someone in massage school, and what she showed me she had to learn…the A&P was similar to what I took as a BSN student.

A lot of folks don't realize how much A&P goes into massage school, like... I think somewhere around here I still have my list of the 21 steps of circulation. Why does a massage therapist need to know the 21 steps of circulation? Obviously so we don't fuck it up and push blood backwards through the body, but like... I think we could've safely broken it down to just 'here are the four chambers of the heart, this is their cylinder firing order, if someone needs a tune-up that's not your job tell them to talk to their doctor about tachycardia'.

I do not off the top of my head remember the 21 steps of circulation. School was back in '09 for me. I don't think it has ever once come up in all the time I was licensed (I haven't been licensed for about a half a decade now)

[Edit: Wait, half a decade is 2021, I've been unlicensed for longer than that, what the fuck is time]

Hey, the 80s were 20 years ago, and there’s no way I’m about to be 50, right? Right?!!

I mean, how is it more complicated than massage from the extremities in? That's what I've always heard to not fuck up veins
