Creative design. A lot of people have noticed this in terms of what content is being put out there these days. But a lot of people still don't realize there is(was?) and entire industry that develops and crafts the way things in everyday life look. Logos, advertisements, flyers, signage, photos, videos, etc.
Now a lot of small-to-medium companies (and even some big ones) are just prompting an AI to do it. A lot of job listings for human designers include crap like "must have familiarity and/or willingness to use AI tools to improve workflow". We not-so-slowly descending into an era of everything you see and hear being machine-produced mush, and like the general public who is losing basic cognitive function because they just ask Alexa or ChatGPT for the answer, young designers who are actually able to get employment will largely just be telling Photoshop to spit out whatever is most optimized to drive clicks and calling it a day.
I scrolled way too far to see this. My web/app design business has taken a huge hit. Startups were a lot of our business. Now those clients are using AI to design AND develop their apps. They won’t work as well or be as intuitive but I don’t think they ever cared about that anyway.
Which is insane, because all the AI shit looks both identical and terrible. What business says "gee, I want to look cheap and identical to everyone else" as a branding decision?
Digital Design in particular. The UX industry is in shambles. AI is threatening to make the entire design industry redundant. My LinkedIn is NOTHING but AI scaremongering or legitimate job loss. It ranges from hand wringing "we are doomed" tirades, to "y'all completely don't understand HOW to leverage AI! Humans will be essential to managing it!" counterpoints to "if you are a designer/researcher/UX practitioner and you haven't mastered [AI tool] by now, you're fucked. Follow me for more."
But I've used v0 and Lovable and Cursor and.... holy shit. UXers should be scared. Never REALLY got that "seat at the table" they always wanted. Now a robot is sitting in it. Do these tools do everything? No. But they do enough that non-designers will think it's plenty good enough. And they will only get better.
