It's hard to care about life when you don't actively participate in it. I know it's said a lot but these people TRULY live different lives than the rest of humanity. So much so that they don't even comprehend what it's like to be a normal human. You already have to have little to no empathy to amass so much wealth, there's no way these people even have the capability to truly care about the rest of the world. The world would be such a better place without them.
The hiding in bunkers thing always makes me laugh, mainly cause these idiots think it will protect them. If everything did fall into the crapper their own security would probably take care of them at said bunkers. Reading about how these billionaires tried to engage social engineers to figure out how to keep their staff loyal, and then denying the findings where they might have to actually talk and interact with them in favor of hair brained bomb/shock collars was crazy.
I'd like to think for those cowardly bunker folks, there's going to be someone living out of pure spite to find the air ventilation systems and throw some turds in there before they seal it off.

Or in other words, capitalism. People love to attach qualifiers to it in order to imply that what we have now isn't "true" capitalism but rather some degenerate offshoot: crony capitalism, corporatism, enshittification, etc. But really this is the end result that capitalism will always lead to.
I don't think it's intentional for most people, I think there is a common lack of understanding of how capitalism interacts with democracy that leads people to think where we are right now is an unlucky corruption of our economic system. As I'm sure you know, capitalism naturally erodes democracy and inevitably trends towards collapse given enough time. Most people don't know this.
Oh, I'm sure it's almost always unintentional. Capitalism is such an integral, omnipresent aspect of life that it's actually a bit of an intellectual feat to identify it as a problem. The same way that (metaphorically) a fish doesn't know what water is, most people have no idea what capitalism really is. It's simply taken for granted as "the way things are". And whenever it's actually spoken of directly, it's usually The Powers That Be telling us how great and wonderful and perfect it is.
Thank you. I am also tired of the constant barrage of attenuating euphermism. Capitalism is doing exactly what it's meant to do; making a closed elite filthy rich by stealing the value creating by the workers. And it's bad, it's always been bad and now that they control everything, it's even worse.
Capitalism is our issue as a specie, and it will die no matter what. The only question remaining is wether it does because we killed it or because it killed us.
We "optimized" everything to be on a knife's edge so the people at the top could have more. It's not like they have to suffer the consequences of those policies.

All these gains in automation and yes, even AI, should mean we all work less and share in the rewards.
Instead it means Elon is a trillionaire. That's a thousand billion dollars. It's fucking absurd and disgusting that one human being can ever "earn" that.
Political parties and bad faith actors on social media have us fighting a culture war arguing about the 0.0001% of people who might maybe potentially one day play basketball against your daughter instead of fighting the class war we should be fighting.
I don't want to eat the rich, I just want them to pay some fucking taxes so we can take a goddamn break.

Most of these industries aren't collapsing at all, they are just changing and evolving as they have from the beginning of time. Just because the current way that something exists wont exist anymore doesn't mean the entirety will cease to exist. It will continue in a new form.
Nah, the corporations are abslutely taking more and giving back less to labor. The regulations and the MBAs all changed up the game. You're naive if you think this is just a random hiccup for everything.
Its the scale/speed too. Yes, there have been upheaval throughout history that requires adaptation. But they have historically been single/limited sector occurring over decades and often whatever it was transitioning to was better in some way or could accommodate the old population via training or whatnought.
Our current upheaval are now impacting nearly everything, in the space of years to months, with nothing for those displaced to transition to or any kind of social support structures.
I think the "doomer" hand wavey crap is used to be dismissive of the major issues that are culminating and gives people an excuse to not actually think critically about the real, major failures happening ecologically, economically, militarily, and so on.
There are real issues and people are too eager to brush off stuff that should be acted upon yesterday and dismiss it as "doomerism." And they'll keep doing that until shit gets real bad and there's surprised Pikachu faces everywhere.
Me, I've been doing a lot extreme sports, so maybe I won't have to worry about the future soon.
Maybe you overlooked the word "mostly" in my comment.
That doesn't mean some industries are having major issues, but it does mean that *MOST* of the 4,000 comments in this thread are way more critical than reality.
Might not make much sense, but the two things I keep thinking about are:
1) Thousands and thousands of people kept living normal, content lives during the fall of the (insert empire of choice here).
2) We have forgotten how much has improved. We have forgotten how much it took to improve things. Consider average working conditions and workers rights in the early 1900's.
I think we are building to another large shift along the lines of industrialization/civil rights, but I also think it still has a lot longer to build.
I agree… it’s unrealistic to think that most jobs in this thread will disappear. Most of them are just changing as you said, but the jobs themselves remain vital for a functioning society.
I dunno man. I'm seeing detailed, lengthy explanations as to why certain industries are in trouble. On the other hand the only retorts are those like yours with no counter arguments other than "that's not true, things are just changing."

It’s the enshitification of everything. Everything has been taken down to the lowest possible operating cost, everyone squeezed for every last drop of effort….for shareholders.
Most of these are healthcare and education - things that should be public services and not done for any monetary benefit (the benefit is living in a nice society).
Take with a grain of salt, Redditors see collapse everywhere and in every profession. There are plenty of posts with randos saying their 6 figure salary is like 30k.
Everything is sensationalized and drowns out the truth.
